Into The Afternight: Our 3rd Shift O/T

If you’re still up and want to talk Chiefs, or just hang with fellow citizens of the Kingdom, this is the place.

I doubt that content much matters tonight, since any conversation amongst those who hang around will be about the draft.

I learned a bunch from the second one, and I’m somewhat conversant with gemstones. There might be something in there that your certain someone will love at a lower cost than premium stones such as diamonds. If not, they’re pretty, if nothing else.

With that, time’s yours.

So, at this point, I think our best bet at CB would be to re-sign Breeland again.

There are some interesting OTs and safeties, if the board falls right.

I’m fairly optimistic about getting a good player at our PONs of LB and WR.

So of course the early runs tomorrow will be on WRs and LBs.

Definitely some really good guys out there. I’m kind of surprised Teven Jenkins, JOK, Barmore, and Moehrig didn’t go in the first, but I’m not complaining.

Yeah, if there was a position that got picked over today more than I expected, it’d be DE. Which doesn’t make me too sad, because I didn’t think we had a realistic shot at any of the better DEs anyway.

As it stands right now, Cincinnati has a chance to nail their first two picks. I thought they were crazy to pick a WR and pass on Sewell, but they might be able to get Jenkins to play RT.

I was amazed that Baltimore didn’t pick a RT at #31. I guess maybe they already have a backup or two they believe in.

Every year the Ravens draft guys that I like. Last year, Patrick Queen. This year, both Bateman and Oweh were on my short-list for the Chiefs when we had #31.

Yeah. I hate them, too.

Yeah, their offense would be off to a good start with Chase and (maybe) Jenkins.

What are your thoughts on our current O-line?

Well, our starting LT and LG are set.

RT is probably between Remmers and Niang. I feel all right with whichever one of them wins that spot.

C is probably set with Blythe.

RG is probably the only starting spot that’s really unclear. LDT probably, but maybe Long or Rankin. Or maybe Wylie or Allegretti if both LDT and Long were ruined by taking the year off and they have other plans for Rankin.

Backup OTs – Remmers/Niang, Durant, maybe Rankin.

Backup centers – Darryl Williams and Allegretti.

Backup OGs – Long, Allegretti, Rankin, Wylie.

Overall, I wouldn’t mind a developmental OT, but I also wouldn’t feel bad about coming away from this draft without one. Otherwise, looking at upgrading Allegretti at backup C/G…doesn’t seem like a real high priority, unless none of the five possible RGs on the roster pan out.

  1. Brown
  2. Thuney
  3. Remmers
  4. Niang
  5. Blythe
  6. LDT
  7. Long
  8. Rankin
  9. Wylie
  10. Allegretti
  11. Durant
  12. Williams

So that’s 12 OL either locks or likely to make a 53-man roster. And we’re probably only keeping 10 at most. And there’s one or two more on the current roster I didn’t even bother to list. Sooo…we’re not short on bodies.

Not really a fan of Basham, as I think we could get better athletes even later in the draft.

That list of LBs makes me excited though.

I expect a run on the tackles in the 2nd round. I won’t be upset if they are all chosen before we pick. It just means more players at positions of greater need will be available.

Yeah, Basham, I just felt obligated to list at least one DE, ha.

You’re probably right, teams will start going after the OTs. Such a poor draft for linemen at the top, but teams have to draft them just to fill out rosters. I think that’s what started to happen with the DEs at the end of the 1st today.
