Friday OT: Guess how much Eric Berry is making?

Hint: It’s a lot

8 Million.

That’s right the Chiefs are still paying Eric Berry a whopping 8 million for the 2020 season.

That would put him as the 9th highest paid player on the Chiefs this year

He’s making 3 million more than Patrick Mahomes II.

He’s tied for the 11th highest paid safety this year.

Eric Berry has played in 3 games since 1/15/17.

Since his last snap with the Chiefs he has earned $14,950,000

I had to Google this (as I do with many of your comments), and still have no idea what the heck you’re talking about. Kids man 😏

I thought this was nicely done, especially done a capella.

Anyone know if this is the last year of EB29’s payout?

Agree. If we’re paying the dude that much money he can go out there and earn it (if physically able).

The Eric Berry contract is all the evidence I need to see when it comes to the NFL not having 100% guaranteed contracts.

His contract is probably the only reason we haven’t locked Jones up yet. So much dead money.

I dunno, catastrophic injuries still happen on the field, GMs can cut people for personal reasons, and so on. But what got EB was a pair of conditions rather than injuries, and more to the point that makes him an extreme outlier, not someone to model new contract structures around.

If he had a 100% guaranteed contract, we would not have been able to bring in the Honey Badger. Ergo, no Superbowl.

I see no point in disputing that, since it’s a foray into alternate history. I’m also not advocating for 100%G contracts, I just don’t agree with the concept that all contracts should be designed with Berry’s tragic tale in mind.

IMHO if the NFL’s going to adopt a new contract schedule, and I don’t expect it to happen, then it needs to be modeled around, say, the 50% of the players in the middle and accept that there will always be outliers in the system. Or make it the middle 60%, or 80%, I’m not fussy. But a system designed to prevent outliers in human business dealings isn’t workable.

I cannot hate on EB for collecting on a legally binding deal. And anyone who says he should have played at the end can fuck off.
The man made All-Pro post cancer.
I shall not engage in this topic any further.

I’m not blaming EB a bit, he deserves what’s coming to him.

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a bad contract, but that’s not EB’s fault, either.

I suppose I’ll go fuck off then.
I don’t blame him for continuing to collect on his contract, but that contract was post-cancer; he’d already came back on the previous contract. He had a new contract to live up to. He should’ve played. Day to day over a heel. What’s the worst that could’ve happened? He not play again? Oh wait.

We thought we had the virus beat here in CA. People started protesting, putting pressure on the governor to open things up. He did and now we’re spiking. Moral of the story, don’t listen to f…..g morons.

Indeed. “Non-essential” jobs are becoming more essential as we’ve put them on pause. And while pointing a finger at Darth Cheeto is easy and mostly true we must keep in mind that there was no polititions calling to put aside differences and come up with a COVID response plan back when the thing was iffy. The few voices raised only prove my point, there was no response planning, just the usual politics. 1/2

And since it got real there’s still been very little planning or coordination along the way, so folks who had little to do but sit at home indefinitely, no end in sight, were eventually going to get restless.

Especially as it’s still “politics as usual”. Bah.

By the time round three rolls around, the people that were infected in round one will be able to get it again. This thing is not going away.

Eldest dubbed these “Molotov Cocktails”, back when I was tailgating and it was my go-to, especially for noon games. Built like a Bloody Mary, but no celery or horseradish.

1 48oz can tomato juice
6oz vodka
1/2 tsp each: garlic and onion powders (adjust to taste)
1/2 tbsp Habanero sauce (ultimately, it’s to taste, adjust accordingly in dose*)
1/2 tbsp Worchestershire sauce**
2qt. juice bottle

Mix in empty jug, shake well. Best when it’s had time to come together, night before a noon game in the fridge does it for me. Serve straight-up or over ice.

*Or choose a hotter or milder sauce, but since the pepper sauces I use for this aren’t Louisiana-style, so little to no vinegar. Switch to those at your own risk.

**Obviously this is not one where you want to use L&P or other good stuff, so go for a bargain brand of Worchestershire. However, if you are fortunate enough to have access to an Aldi their store brand version’s not just competitively priced, it’s clearly made using a process similar to the original L&P stuff. Basically, if you don’t need to shake it to get things back into suspension it’s industrially produced, if you catch my drift. But for the price, the Aldi’s a spectacular value.

Isn’t it funny how despite getting burned over and over on big contracts recently Chiefs fans still want the team to give Chris Jones a bunch of money?

Dorsey wanted too much “prove it” time, so by the time these guys got paid it was later in their career. Veach is investing early, instead.

If CJ’s sticking to $21MM, then I see a couple of things going on here. First is something I don’t see mentiond and that’s that $21MM this year is a discount comepared to FC. If that’s FC’s take, CJ’s giving a bit of a discount on the asking price.

Second thing is that it seems likely that both camps have put everything off until Mahomes inks a deal. No way to structure both independently, they’re both elite talents.
