Friday OT: Brandy Alexander
82 repliesCocktail Friday
1 1/2 OZ Brandy
1 OZ Creme de Cacao
1 OZ Cream (I used Almond milk)
Put all three ingredients into a shaker
Add ice and shake till cold
Strain into glass
Garish with nutmeg and/or grated chocolate
Tasting notes:
For when you can’t decide between dessert or an after dinner drink
Literally a dessert in a glass
Smells like Nutmeg and Chocolate ( I wonder why)
Sweet but not too rich
Like those brandy filled chocolates but with a better balance.
Cream is much better than almond milk, but for those lactose intolerant it’s still good.
Yummy. Good after a meal or in front of a fire (Reminds me of winter)
Can sneak up on you.
I tried this as a Bourbon Alexander as well. Basically just replacing the brandy with bourbon. The bourbon just overpowers the other ingredients, and makes me just wish I had used it in a different cocktail. Just roll with the brandy for this one.
Brandy was a fine girl, but I don’t think she lived and worked in Manhattan. It was a port, after all, and Madhatten isn’t exactly known for that.
With the passing of Felix Silla only two of the original cast of The Addams Family are still alive, and one of them is John Astin who was the third oldest cast member on the show.
The 23rd pick in the AG mock draft is complete and turned in. I hope Tony lets me out of detention now.
I don’t feel tardy…
Thanks! Now where did I put that dungeon key…
Preference – and realize the time involved – Would you rather take
A) a couple of orbits around the Earth
B) a trip to the moon and back
C) a trip to Mars and back
D) a trip to Pluto and beyond
E) a trip to the sun
F) a trip to Key West
Excellent – you think outside the box
The Moon baby! Still might if I live long enough.
Not all Europeans dislike America and Americans, and for good reasons. Here’s the first of two
Since scientists are constantly finding new truths, can one use science as a basis to explain truth in our universe.
Perhaps, but to me truths are not facts. The universe is constructed of facts, while we humans struggle to understand truths. As David Drake once wrote, I believe that there’s an objected Truth to everything, I just don’t think folks are likely to find it. Truths require interpreting facts, after all.
Addendum: A shorter way of putting it is that you can have facts without finding truths, but you cannot identify truths without a grounding in facts. The 1619 Project obviously doesn’t grasp that, as one recent example, but there are those like them in good plenty out there. They never want rigor, that can interfere with getting the results they want, so inconvenient facts may be left out, while the facts supporting the cause can be highlighted.
This is fundamental intellectual dishonesty, and while the Right’s not innocent, the Left glorifies it, and has since Dworkin, at least.
All I know is that I here the phrase – “Science proves that…” many times in many different areas. Taken to the extreme, science cannot prove anything since more “truths” have yet to be discovered.
every answer leads to a new question…
And you’ll rarely hear scientists say that, either. Science demonstrates, but seldom proves. Galileo’s gravity experiment was a standard, right up until it wasn’t. It’s not that he was a bad scientist, but because his test equipment was too limited to do more.
The difference between science and religion begins with religion being about finding truths, and science is about facts, but the primary one is that religion does everything it can to never change, science does change when contrary facts arise. It might take time, especially early on in history, but it eventually happens. The heliocentric model of the solar system kerfluffle is likely the best-known example of the stark dichotomy, with the Church holding the political power in the game.
steak-umm had a point calling out Niel Degass Tysons (sic) tweet. Science may not necessarily be true/truth for a variety of reasons.
If I’m forced to choose between fact and truth, I’ll take the truth.
is that a fact?
Only if it’s true

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and temporary. Truth is eternal. ?

That’s some crazy shit right there..,
I hope it’s ours and we’re secretly testing against the best navy in the world, the US Navy.
I am torn if it would be worse for it to be Chinese/Russian or alien.
None of them options sound very promising
Alien would be way worse. At least the Chinese would have a vested interest in not vaporizing the entire planet.
They might be keen on vaporizing us though. ?
I think us Arrowheadguys will be spared due to our appreciation of their culture.

At the very least, I should be spared. I have a history of appreciating all different types of Asian culture.

This is how our presidential elections should be decided – I think Bernie would have kicked everyone’s ass.
Chiefs 12; Chargers 9; Raiders 8; Broncos 7.5
12-5 seems rather low for the Chiefs
Will take awhile to get use to 17 regular season games.
one good thing
16 Chiefs games will now be played with starters 🙂
Yeah – even with a seven game lead in the division – that is way too long to rest starters. Convenient if someone has a nagging injury.
I just watched the Wild beat the Sharks, but with that in mind, resting starters on a rotational basis might be the way to go in the future. Gives some back-ups real experience, while not dragging the team down too much. That assumes no injuries, witch is a fiction, but every such scheme is affected by injuries every year, so we may as well lay out the principles and then adapt to whatever develops.
I cordially detest rigid plans, BTW. If one little thing goes wrong at the wrong time, the whole thing can fall apart. Plans should be as dynamic as circumstances allow, because if it’s at all complex, the unexpected WILL come up.
IMO fully-enclosed stadiums are automatically DQ’d, even if they can open and close a porthole to the sky. Seattle squeaks by on a technicality, though. Pre- and post-game social culture is also a huge part of the equation, because “best” encompasses the overall experience, not just while the game’s going on. Even my Raiders fan friend, when we attended our first game together at Arrowhead, had to admit that our fans were friendly, and the rivalry stuff good-natured.
Same holds true recently for Vikings and Titans fans who came calling, so this appears to be a feature, not happenstance. Oh, there were scuffles at every one of them, and other bad behavior by fans of both sides, but those are rare exceptions, considering you have 70k+ fans in close proximity at an emotionally highly-charged competitive even where alcohol is an inevitability. RaiderBud noticed one such incident, and it was a Chiefs fan who was out of line, but I know good and well that Raiders fans have incidents like that at home games, too. Signified nothing, just a cheap barb, so to speak.
