Friday Night Open Thread: The Chiefs Defense Will Face a Mostly Backup Offensive Lines

Welcome to AG’s nightly Open Thread, drop in and join a conversation, or start one yourself.

On top of those 2 guys, La’el Collins is on IR, and center Ted Karras got injured against the Bills so, while he’ll play, he may not be 100%. The only OL starter for the Bengals from the regular season game will be Cordell Volson, who is a 4th round rookie.

Regarding the Fermi Paradox (I’d prefer a pair of doxies), I grew up a SF fan; Trek, and books on top of books. I was reading Bradbury prior to 5th grade (also a lot of things “too advanced” for me, like the original Jungle Books), and I loved that there might be strangers out there that we one day might meet.

So it depresses me some that I’ve swung toward the Rare Earth Theory. It’s not a conclusion by any stretch, but when I eventually started thinking about what the moon did early on, being so much closer than today, I couldn’t ignore the possibility that the massive tides it would have driven (Think meters of rise, not inches) was essential to the formation of life in the first place. If that’s the case…

Now there are a ton of potentially Earthlike planets out there, but if the effects of those massive tidal strains on plate tectonics and water movement are a requirement for life to arise, most of those planets get DQed. In fact, almost all of them, extrapolating on what I know about discovered exoplanets. I have yet to see one reported to have a massive moon companion.

That doesn’t bode well for the Drake Equation.

โ€œIt is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.โ€
RIP Doug

I get you, but since it’s for his back (might’ve misread), I would guess it tightened up, so they’re taking no chances. When it comes to injuries and illness, being listed as Questionable covers so much ground as to render any conclusions that are drawn…questionable.

If it is for his back, getting tight is enough to rest him, but a significant strain or other injury would’ve likely drawn a Doubtful, instead. Illness? Have some IV standing ready, he’ll play if he can run.

Kelce’s from the Cleveland area, and that likely fuels him against them as a city rivalry, regardless of where he played in college.

That, and he’s been stung repeatedly by these pests, time to join the Grim Reaper as the Exterminator.

Travis Kelce (back) is questionable for Sunday’s AFC Championship against the Bengals. He practiced in full all week but was added to the injury report and the questionable line on Friday in a somewhat ominous sign. He also did not talk to the media in a scheduled Friday availability per James Palmer because he was undergoing treatment. This is an interesting last-minute wrench for the Chiefs, but we’d lean on expecting Kelce to play despite the status until we hear more detailed reports.

Kelce fumbled away the regular season game against these guys and blamed himself for that loss. You couldn’t keep him off that field if you locked him in a sarcophagus.

Or actual drumsticks, if you want a finger food. Or if you’re planning on making stock soon, since you get more collagen that way than thighs, and if they’re ordinary ones, you don’t have to deal with all those vertebrae, and drums are cheaper, to boot.

Fully agree about thighs, though. Better flavor, doesn’t dry out, takes reheating well, best cut on the bird.

That depends. Trying to exterminate them with guns or poison will do that, but “introducing” larger canines into a local for the purpose wasn’t part of that/those study(s), as I recall. They’ll be doing more than Morgan Gold’s Maremmas, but it’s still canine competition, so I’d want a focused study on them before I lumped them into the hunting/trapping/poison category.

Science is a very specific thing, you can’t conclude that it’s impossible to manage the population until you’ve studied everything about every management option. I wonder if a capture/release, sterilizations included, the way many places manage feral cat populations.

So did I, but you set a pack of them loose against a pack of coyotes, the message they get will be much the same as an aggressive pack of wolves. Plus the poop and pee they’ll leave behind, warning them and other coyotes away across significant areas, so we aren’t taking “war is diplomacy by other means”, it’s the actual quote, “with other means”.

And that, in a sense, is what the process is. It’s a war, but that’s just an element of the diplomacy, and the thing being fought over is classic; territory. The casualties are necessary, even desirable, for their side, but they aren’t the point. Wars are not won by who stacks up more corpses, but by getting your message across with enough force that the enemy concedes.

Doesn’t matter if he is. The players are the ones that matter. Chiefs could be up 3 scores going into the 4th and Andy could for the first time in his life call more runs than passes but it won’t stop Pacheco from trucking dudes or the OL from imposing their will.

The bigger thing what the defense does. They’re being doubted. They’re hearing all this talk about how great Burrow is and how they’re meh. I’ve seen this kinda script before. And I remember how it goes.

This is interesting, but unsurprising to me. It comes with a caveat, the reduction referenced is only โ€œpharmacy-based distribution of codeineโ€, prescription and hospital distribution remained basically unchanged. I was a little surprised about the isolation of the reduction, but thinking about it, when you’re not in enough pain to go to the hospital, cannabis can help make the difference.

Besides, codeine’s an opiate, so it’s a more likely gateway drug than pot ever was.
