Breaking News (Updated): Chiefs Trade Tyreek Hill to Dolphins
432 repliesAnother blockbuster coming? Despite an offer from the #Chiefs that would make superstar Tyreek Hill one of the highest-paid receivers, extension talks have stalled and Kansas City has now given Hill’s agent permission to seek a trade, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.

Jets and Dolphins are in serious talks to trade for Chiefs’ WR Tyreek Hill, per league sources. Hill and Chiefs are mulling what to do but Hill’s time in KC looks like it could be coming to an end.

The way this is going, guys, it's going to be really hard for Tyreek Hill & the Chiefs to come to an agreement on an extension.
Can confirm, per multiple sources, that the Chiefs have given Hill permission to seek a trade.

Sources: Jets and Dolphins both now have trades in place for the soon-to-be former Chiefs’ WR Tyreek Hill. The question now becomes where Hill wants to become the highest-paid WR in NFL history. Once he decides, the trade is expected to happen; for now, Hill is said to be “torn.”

The Tyreek Hill trade is expected to happen this afternoon, sources tell @ByNateTaylor & me.

Update: It’s official
Here it is: The #Chiefs are trading six-time Pro Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the #Dolphins, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.
The return is a first-round pick and more, while Hill gets a contract extension that puts him among the highest paid WRs in the NFL.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 23, 2022
Chiefs are trading six-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks: a 2022 1st-round pick (No. 29), a 2nd-round pick (No. 50) and a 4th-round pick, as well as 4th- and 6th-round picks in the 2023 draft, sources tell ESPN.

So let me get this straight…you turn down 20m a year for 30m a year when you have domestic problems and a wife with Munchausen by proxy…you leave a highly stable team with a highly stable support environment……………………for Miami???
…….anyone old enough to remember what happened when Mike Tyson left his highly supportive trainer?….I do……..
As much as some may hate, love and the wait and see opinions, this viewpoint pretty much sums it up..
Maybe said below
But I doubt Veach would have restructered Thuney knowing this was going to happen
nearly 29 million in cap available now
Nothing wrong with that, though. I’d hope we are planning to keep Thuney forever.
I think they see Thuney as contingency to Brown deciding he wants a ton of money, TBH.
The Chiefs knew for weeks (at least) that Hill was gone.
Tyreek might have known even longer. It could’ve been the reason he pulled up in that Pro Bowl race trying not to get a stupid injury costing him millions…
the more I think about it, the more I agree with Berserker (say what?!?!?) in that I feel better about the Chiefs now (with the cap space and the extra draft picks) than I did before the deal went down …
what?!?!?)
Lambs lie down with Lions
the apocalypse is happening
Right?
This “new” (gnu) I agree with you Upamtn is frightening.
I’m not there yet and won’t be for awhile. I’m still in shock
Tweet Of The Day
Chiefs still have Mahomes, Kelce, Juju, a stellar offensive line, 30M+ in cap space, and a ton of draft picks. You are wrong if you think this automatically takes us out of SB contention. We’re still 5 months from camp. Relax.
^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
I’m sure this has been said before, but HIll no longer has Patrick throwing him the ball .. Can’t blame him for getting paid, but he’s not
Going to like it when his stats drop in half…
He wasn’t exactly horrible with AS throwing him the ball
Literally posted that right as you popped up there…I didn’t copy your homework, I swear!
He wasn’t a known issue for teams then, either
Well to be fair, Tyreek started with Alex Smith as his QB
I heard he turned down 20 million per year from Chiefs. It’s hard for me to believe he left for the money but he did.
It’s like Jerry Rice leaving Joe and that never happened.
Sad day
I can see it. Because I’d bet he feels like he sorta missed out on his last contract, because that was lower than it should’ve been due to his domestic problems.
Anyway, having performed like he has, and kept his nose clean after a very difficult time, and coming off a team-friendly contract…I can’t blame him for feeling like his time has absolutely come to cash in, because I’d feel that way in his place.
Almost $22M per is what I thought the number was. Petro said between $22M and $23M. Regardless, that’s a lot of cheddah
8+M a year? 32M over four years? You’d pass that up to stay someplace? No, I don’t think so.
2M, maybe. At that point, it’s in the noise. But 8M? Let’s be real
He will make a lot of YAC and make the QB’s stats look better.
Come at me 3 TE sets
Hm. Kelce + Juju + Drake London?
I can’t get hyped about any wr draft pick until they prove themselves
So this’ll be no different than however long you had to wait after Tyreek was picked to get hyped about him.
Give me either obj or Julio and a bunch of draft picks
I wanted Julio last year, but he’s done dude.
Veach must have known re-signing Tyreek was a problem, but we let Pringle walk anyway. Now we have Dr. Hands, a JuJu and some guy trying to save his career? How is our receiver doing that we drafted last year? Oh he’s gone. Yep, things are all rainbows and unicorns in the kingdom.
You’re the one dying to talk football
Then blow out the lines, bud. Do all your bitching and moaning so we can get on with figuring out how to best move forward and jump back into the SB mix.
Juju is an upgrade over Pringle. Possession/YAC guy.
If we can get a competent starter to play the X-WR spot, then we could very well have a more versatile and better overall WR corps than we had last year.
I liked Pringle. A lot. But he wasn’t the answer with Hill to decoy. Without him? Really not the answer.
For what it’s worth, Patrick Mahomes without Tyreek Hill in his career:
4-1, 63 comp%, 374 pass yards per game, 8 TDs, 1 INT, 103 QB Rating.
you’re saying there’s a chance?
*gasp*
Welllllll Shit
hiya Steve … yanno, I’ve hated the “off season” … it’s so BORING 😉
I just found out
I should have waited till 530 pm central
would that have changed things?
oh, I think KC has about a a $2.5M hit (this year) from Hill, but has now created $18.5 million in cap space … so there’s that
Zero hard feelings to Tyreek.
I’ll continue to cheer for him to have success (except when he plays the Chiefs)
He needs to keep playing well for a long time to have a shot at becoming another Hall of Famer for the Chiefs.
Sad. It’s always sad when a player unwanted to see play their whole career for the Chiefs and possibly become a hall of famer for the one team, go.
But I would have been sick if we gave a WR 120 million over 4 years.
Lots of picks. I wish the first was a little higher, or some of the others were a little higher, but maybe that’s greedy.
Need to make the most of these picks now. More Creeds, fewer Clydes.
More Creeds, fewer Clydes
wreck’s for this
Fewer Speakses and Kaindohs
More Boltons and Gays, fewer DoDs
no no more Jon Baldwins, Tyson Jacksons, Glenn Dorseys, Ryan Sims, Sylvester Morris or Victor Rileys … all 1st Rounders who didn’t exactly make it big
I still say Glenn Dorsey was an awesome player, but his knees got wore out at LSU and the Chiefs didn’t do a good enough med eval at the combine.
I defend the Big Cat. He was on his way to very good, and got hurt. The others? No.
You can forget about the SB next season. We are officially in rebuild mode. This is complete BS. Not interested in any rationalization. Veach is on my s… list now.
They weren’t making it with Hill either. This team is swiss cheese right now, so this is the means to a greater end. Speed has a shelf life, like Wayward has pointed out. I can’t help but think KC got out at the right time.
The potential would’ve been there. It’s gone now.
I think the team as a whole will be better for this. Potential exists every year. Their odds haven’t changed in Vegas…either KC or MIA after this deal.
Agreed, do you get Seth’s “Chief in the North” newsletters? The last one, just a couple days ago, might’ve been the most pessimistic I’ve ever seen him be, talking about team needs and construction. I wonder how he’s feeling about the team now.
Pretty down on our chances huh? I guess losing in the AFC championship broke some people.
Ha, you are rarely interested in rationality. So, glad to see you haven’t changed.
A bit? Son, you underestimate me.
YES, bring a vet RB to push CEH, either this vet or another vet RB — CEH is not the Guy.
Like in life…
if someone is hired to do your same JOB — you either STEP UP and keep your #1 position………or new person TAKES your JOB.
Jones was good, but he had a down year didn’t he? Wonder if he’s wearing down. Might rather bring back McKinnon. Hell, I hope they bring back McKinnon whether or not they sign anybody else.
yes yes yes to McKinnon
Shocked we haven’t heard more about McKinnon, to be honest…even with the cap issues
Maybe after June 1? That might be when the market for a risky (injury history + age + RB) player like him will get started.
Here are a few other NFL fans posts………tons of nasty nasty ones, that I didn’t post.
That’s weird. It’s not like Mahomes’ no-looks got traded.
well, tyreek May have gotten what he wanted but I hope he realizes he does not have Mahomes throwing to him anymore and I doubt if Tua Will be able to get the ball to him as many times as Mahomes did. don’t want to hear him bitching when his numbers go down either.
when have you every heard of T. Hill bitching about # of targets or catches? Chiefs didn’t want to PAY $$$$. Can’t fault a man for getting his $$$$.
T. HILL HELPED if NOT WON chiefs a SB.
You misinterpreted what I said I didn’t say he was bitching about catches what I said was I don’t want to hear him bitching about it when his numbers go down. Basically what I said was be careful what you wish for.
all is well
my bad on mis-reading 🙂
no worries here, all good
Hill did help, but it’s always … ALWAYS … a TEAM SPORT
Right. And the better players you have the better team you have!!!! Why is it so hard for you to get that????
but I keep hearing that the QB is THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL and the Mahomes is THE BEST QB WHO EVER LIVED … so again, why did the Chiefs fail to win the AFCCG?
see my point? it’s about TEAMWORK just as much as it is about individual players … why is it so hard for YOU to get THAT?
I loveya, Brother, but you’re not seeing the full picture here …
The Chiefs lost to the Bengals because Mahomes had the worst half-game of his career.
Now, think about that. Mahomes played bad, everybody else might’ve been playing good*, and the whole TEAM lost. So, this is a prime example FOR the QB being by far the most important player of all.
*(for all we know, since it’s tough to tell whether the rest of the offense is playing any good when the QB is playing bad, since the QB is so much more important than anybody else)
true true
