Winners/Losers: Chiefs Vs Broncos

Who are the bears this week, and who are the bulls? Stock analyst Tony gives you the inside skinny!

A meaningless game?

A game that won’t mean much unless the Texans somehow find a way to win tonight, but it’s still nice to extend the win streak over the Broncos to 13. Who contributed, and who was at fault for making it closer than it should have been?

Winners

Mecole Hardman

Hardman had 103 yards, including 44 clutch yards on the final drive that for all intents and purposes ended the game. He’s had a relatively rough season after a lot of people expected him to take a step forward and fill Watkins’ shoes, so it’s nice to see him to end the season on a high note.

Melvin Ingram

The only guy on the defense who showed up. Of course, he had the huge forced fumble that Bolton returned for the touchdown, but he made several other impressive plays earlier in the game.

Patrick Mahomes

It wasn’t a monster day by his standards, but he still had 325 total yards and 2 touchdowns without a turnover and came up clutch time and time again.

Also, he was setting records.

Jerrick McKinnon

With CEH out and Darrell Williams getting injured, McKinnon was asked to come in, and he did well, with 50 yards and a touchdown.

Losers

Zayne Anderson

Two weeks ago, nobody knew who Anderson was, but after back-to-back weeks with huge blunders on special teams, he’s on the fans’ shit list.

Last week it was a hold that brought back a kickoff return touchdown, this week it was a roughing the punter penalty that gave the Broncos a first down (which they eventually scored on). A guy like him doesn’t get many chances in the NFL, and he may have ruined his.

The Defense

Hopefully they were just not interested in a likely meaningless game, but to allow a Drew Lock led Broncos team to score 24 points (and nearly more if it wasn’t for that fumble) is embarrassing. After that long dominance streak, it’s nerve wracking to see them have back-to-back bad games heading into the playoffs.

The Broncos’ Field Maintenance Staff

The field was absolutely terrible. Players were slipping and sliding all over the field, including two Chiefs receivers on one play. We’re lucky to have escaped the game without any serious leg injuries.

my system seems to be working, for now … and plan to up the hand weights over the next week, get my Old Man “Those Are Muscles?” from Toned Up to Super-Toned Up and turn my poor, pitiful Old Man Body into a Thermonuclear Fat-Burning Furnace (yeah, right!)

No need to lose weight any faster than a few pounds a week anyway. If you’re doing a huge amount in a short time it’s mostly gonna we water.

I know … thought about finding a sauna to “sweat it out” but then I’d be drinking copious amounts of water anyway and be right back where I started

here’s the deal: need to lose (a lot) to get hip surgery done ANTERIOR as opposed to POSTERIOR … the sooner I can get it done, the happier I’ll be (cuz it hurts like all hell) but I do NOT want a posterior surgery, so … yeah, did all this coupla yrs ago, this time a little less to lose AND working on the hand weights

already cut out processed grains & carbs (bread, crackers, cereal, etc) … mostly salad, tuna, chicken, eggs, fresh veggies, non-processed things (lentils are good)

5 lbs a week is perfect. Not too fast, so it’s likely to stay off. Great job!

I honestly believe the field conditions were deliberate. If you cannot beat a team straight up then use the conditions in your favor. Did any Broncos slip I cannot remember any?

One team was more prepared for it like they knew. I’m just asking did any Donkey slip? I don’t remember it. Almost as if one side knew the field conditions would be different at kick-off than they were during warm-ups.

Home field advantage? I’m sure it happens.
Playing speed? Slow the field down.
I know the groundskeepers in baseball tailor their fields to their teams

I think if we used Hardman like the field stretcher he is, we would get more out of him. I don’t think he’s a Sammy Watkins type receiver. Send Hill and Hardman streaking down the field and the underneath should open up more often than not. We need a Watkins type, maybe Pringle can continue to grow. But good on Jet for having himself a game when we needed him.

… wonder if that MIGHT open the middle underneath for Kelce and others? FORCE teams to use Double High Safety … hell, Gordon might even get a catch or two

Yep. If they want to run Double High then give them more than they bargained for. Kelce or Williams catching and running with room to build momentum would be fun to watch.

Honourable mention for Butker: he may have lost his footing on that kickoff but he kept his head and was perfect on the day for points and with a four point margin of victory that helps.

Welp, we’re stumbling into the playoffs but at least we’re two for our last three. Better than the reverse. The Lombardi is up for grabs and our guys can beat or lose to anyone. But not really. We have as good a shot as anyone. Everyone buckle up!!

Zayne Andersen was the reason this game was interesting.

Had he not fucked up and we got the ball back a scored that game would have been what we all expected.

Winner: The non-major pieces of our team, particularly at WR and RB. They really stepped up in the absence of Hill and Williams, and handled their roles with aplomb (despite how tough Denver played us; they always play us tough.)
Winner: Nick Bolton. Give the kid a game ball.

Loser: Nasrani. I’m on record as saying that Pringle would be our solid #2 WR in the absence of Watkins, but (the last two weeks notwithstanding) I’m not sure that distinction is as clear as I predicted it would be toward the beginning of the season.
Loser: Zayne Anderson might want to stay after class (as it were) and get some extra coaching. He cost us last week’s game (arguably) and almost cost us this week’s. He just needs to be coached up a bit more, I think, to alleviate the rookie jitters.

I don’t know if you can really add him to the loser list, since it has got to the place where almost nothing is expected from him, but Josh Gordon contributes another drop on an important play. I wish they would bring Fountain up and give him Gordon’s reps. I think all he needs is the opportunity and Gordon is definitely not an answer.

one thing I’ll say in support of Gordon: he’s been quiet, not whining or complaining about his role or lack of targets (to my knowledge) unlike SOME diva players … and if, as Reid and Mahomes both continually claim, that Gordon is pulling Defenses away from others just by being on the field, I’m all for it (especially given his minimal salary)
