There’s a surprising amount to be unpacked in this 6min vid. The first is that they mention that the biggest threat we face in this three-peat run is ourselves. What’s interesting is that our old friend Shady McCoy said just that on the “Speak!” broadcast. The next point of interest is another common position of ‘Burrow’s beaten Mahomes 3 out of 4 times, so he’s the biggest threat’. Oddly enough, they fail to remember that for those three wins, Burrow faced a defense that was notably worse than the one we have now, and that’s assuming they take a step back from last year.

Finally comes the inevitable GOAT discussion, which feature the usual two sides, longevity vs getting the 3peat. Longevity is a factor, to be sure, as is the hardware count, but since that position is very simple, they simplify the higher-achievements side until it’s anemic. Keeping in mind all the categories Pat’s already left Tom’s records behind, 50/5k included.

If Pat gets his 3rd ring this year, he hasn’t just reset the understanding of what’s possible, he’ll also have done something else Tom didn’t, and it’s a point that the Tom-fluffers keep bringing up! They keep talking about how after #3, it took Tom 10 years to score his fourth! Which means, duh, that if Pat cashes in, he’ll have surpassed Brady in this category, too.

Of course, if he comes up golden again, Longevity’s on thin ice, because four down, three to go. Then the question becomes how long will 3 more take? Or is 6 in 15 years better than 7 in 20? Don’t let the Longevitites* chop out superlative achievements for “brevity”, the real aim is to disable those who side with Achievements.

*Sounds kinda Biblical, doesn’t it?

Pat’s lived in KC for years, I wonder if he’s tried BBQ goat yet. I hear it’s pretty good stuff, and if he DIYs it, he’ll get a nice rug, too.

This was on my feed, and I clicked it, wondering if I’d seen it before. When the narrator said “Fav-er”, I knew I had, but it leaned into the Achievement stats even harder. An influence? Probably, but without influences, you cannot come to conclusions.

FREE THE GNOMES!

He thought his garden gnomes were stolen. They were returned in better shape than ever | CBC

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/garden-gnomes-restored-1.7258752

Kelly Blair thought he would never see his garden gnomes again. They disappeared from his yard in Kelowna, B.C., not long after he hosted a yard sale last month.

But last week he got a knock at the door from a “lovely older lady,” who handed him a note.

“The envelope said ‘homeowner’ on the front and inside was a photocopy cut-out of a gnome on the back. It simply said ‘the Gnome Restoration Society’ and that was it,” Blair told As It Happens guest host Peter Armstrong.

A Black man got a job interview after he changed the name on his resume. Now, he’s suing for discrimination | CNN News

https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/10/us/dwight-jackson-employment-discrimination-lawsuit-reaj/index.html

A Black man has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against a hotel in Detroit, Michigan, alleging the hotel only offered him a job interview after he changed the name on his resume, according to a copy of the lawsuit obtained by CNN.

Dwight Jackson filed the lawsuit against the Shinola Hotel on July 3, alleging he was denied a job when he applied as “Dwight Jackson,” but later offered an interview when he changed his name to “John Jebrowski.”

Well, at least Pomp’s not taunting you. Up here, it barely tops out in the mid 80s, and people bitch about how hot it is. Hot? I did Basic in San Antonio in July and August, don’t make me laugh. Of course, I can soften the blow by reminding them that in KC and points south, folks think that 20F is really cold.

Experience teaches you things, starting with those with more limited experiences don’t like to be reminded of the fact. 😛
