Trouble with timing the snap was what I suspected before you mentioned it. Taylor had the issue too, except his timing was very forward, which led to the occasional false start. Since I found out early that pushing that limit was a specialty of his, I was less annoyed by those than the majority.
“If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin'” doesn’t literally mean cheating’s OK, it comes from pushing the rules to their limit and sometimes just beyond it, and that was Taylor’s shtick. Now we’ve seen if an OL refrains from pushing the timing, and it’s even worse, at least in my book. 5yds with no loss of down vs 5 or more PLUS loss of down are the alternatives in view, but it should be easier to get Benson to move his timing back forward than getting Taylor to be more like Benson.
