Kansas City receives a tight end who hasn’t seen much playing time offensively. Brown hasn’t played more than five offensive snaps in a game this season, spending most of his time on special teams

more underwhelming news …

The 29-year-old has 44 career receptions, with a career-best 16 coming in 2016

Yep, just a cap move.

I might’ve been tempted to hold onto LDT until he goes to free agency just on the chance of getting some comp pick credit. But, maybe there was some awkwardness there, what with a starter losing his job to a rookie after he opted out to be a Dr.

excerpt from ESPN: “Ingram, who didn’t practice last week or travel to the Steelers’ game in Cleveland because of a groin injury, finishes his brief career in Pittsburgh with one sack and 10 tackles.”

wonder how well he is recovering from this injury…does he need more time to heal? may not see him on the field for awhile?

pretty much is a statement for Veach to give up a 6th round pick (Veach prizes these latter round picks) for an injured player to help out this season with half the regular season already spent and to be honest, with our schedule as rough as it is…we may not even make the playoffs, so giving up draft capital now is a bit of a gamble. Not that Veach shouldn’t do SOMETHING, and this is maybe the best opportunity available, but there’s no hiding the sense that the front office realizes (like the rest of us who don’t know much about football, ok, at least I don’t) we’re in trouble and this is not the time of year you want to be saying that, if there ever is such a time.

If they were looking to trade him, they probably didn’t want to play him anyways and risk an injury that could jeopardize his value. It wouldn’t take much of an injury to use as an excuse. From what I’ve ready, he should be ready to play next week.

THE MONEY (AKA SALARY CAP)

Ingram’s prorated salary will cost Kansas City just $597,222 for the rest of the season.

Chiefs had just $1.65 million in salary cap space available ahead of the trade

Berserker(@berserker)
Reply to  gonzangkc11

So, since Pitt signed him for $4m this year, then KC traded a 6th round pick for about $3.5m in cap space plus the eight games that KC didn’t have him on their roster.

Considering cap space carry-over, that might actually be a pretty good deal.

If I was running the defense, I’d be tempted to stand him up at SAM while using him mostly as a pass rusher outside one of our many “set-the-edge” DEs, move Gay over to WILL/nickel, and move Niemann to the bench.

One other thought I had which hasn’t been mentioned much is he’s from the AFC west. We still have 5 games left in our division and admittedly, his knowledge of the AFCW behavior is a year and a half old, he still has his past experiences to play off of. That helps make the acquisition make sense also.

6th Rounder and 1/2-Million$ which isn’t much at all (cap hit wise) so yeah, and Steelers pay the rest of $4 Million

all that said: don’t count on TOO much: if he was all that, the Steelers would keep him and play him more, but his snap counts have pretty much decreased steadily the past few weeks, FWIW

Lots of injuries on that defense early that year, IIRC.

If Spags is in a place where he believes that his high-effort players that he’s carried over from previous years will yield better results than new, unfamiliar, faster, stronger, more athletic and more aggressive players…then he might need new scenery just as much as his old defense needs to hear a new voice.

All QBs need a certain comfort level to function properly. Have you ever seen Tom Brady in a game where his protections were breaking down? He looks pretty bad. He just does more to make sure he’s on a team that can protect his ass, with a coach that’ll put 6 OLs in front of him if 5 aren’t getting it done.

I felt that there were very good and very bad decisions the Mahomes made last night (story line of the whole season to date). I honestly think he’s hearing ghost footsteps and isn’t allowing himself the time to survey the field. He seems to be locked in on his first read.

I don’t think the trust is there yet with his new line. They haven’t yet meshed together fully, and he hasn’t yet meshed with them. Unfortunately that’s something that only comes with playing time, so it’s hard to say when either of those things will fully happen.

What’s even stranger is that all of this pressure keeps coming even when our foes are blitzing on 3-5% of our dropbacks.

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but the perception I get is that the middle of the line is pretty solid and likely a good reason why gore was able to run like he did – from what it sounded like he was running up the gut and knocking off some pretty good gains. The tackles is where the issues seem to be and they aren’t getting helped much by the 20 step drops.

No. It takes time for Olinemen to become an Oline.

They already are pretty great at run blocking.

After that one smashmouth TD drive, I wonder what adjustment NY made to contain our run better, and I wonder why we didn’t re-adjust to their adjustment.

I don’t think they started bringing their DBs down more…maybe their LBs were more aggressive against the run? Maybe they started slanting their Dline’s lanes? Anyway, they did SOMEthing to better defend against our run game, and we didn’t seem to counter it.

This line reminds me of some smash-mouth lines of the Ravens or Bucs in the long-ago, with Trent Dilfer under center. He showed some of the same symptoms Mahomes is showing. Happy feet, pressing too hard, …

These aren’t the OTs a QB like Mahomes needs. I have noticed Reid giving Niang an outside chipper, from time to time.

As far as Mahomes’ relationship with the Oline, I saw somebody else pretty much nail it, I think – Mahomes just needs to learn to throw as accurately when he’s moving forward as he does when he’s moving backward or sideways.

not at all … although, similar to the Alex Wars, not everything is as “black and white” as many would like to pretend

IOW: Mahomes is EXTREMELY talented and has a FABULOUS arm and does WONDERS with broken plays (mostly) BUT he is not some sort of Demi-God who can fix everything that might be “broken” … and yes, he DOES make mistakes, etc … he’s HUMAN (I know that must be a disappointment to you and others)

I believe he’ll get out of this funk and it will make him an even better player, so I have his back. So like I said, you and the others have fun with your little potshots while you can.

Well, “AS11” is out of football of late, so he doesn’t look better than anyone who is in the NFL in any way.

But, I completely agree with the sentiment. Mahomes needs to get his shit together. He is doubting what he sees in coverage, and he’s fixed on Kelce and Hill too much. Those are probably related…I think he’s doubting every throw, and Kelce and Hill are the only ones he trusts to bail him out in case he’s making a bad read.

Kelce, Pringle and Hill are the only guys who seem to understand when to settle into a soft spot in zone. Mahomes and his targets need to see the same thing Mahomes is seeing. He’s made the correct throw and it’s been behind, because he’s playing keep-away and they’re just running their routes like robots.

But he’s also getting happy feet and not trusting guys who’ve let him down. Bad mojo for a QB.

We’ll see about a home run – I’m optimistic too – but yes this.

This is exactly what should happen. Which is why Spags will probably avoid doing it. I’ve been a Spags apologist until this season with the Sorenson fiasco showing me he’s clearly lost his mind.

I just don’t know about the Sorensen and Niemann crap this year. Don’t know if Spags is just being stubborn, refusing to recognize he’s wrong, being too soft-hearted toward try-hard players, overvaluing “classroom” and practice performance… I just don’t know.

But I guess it really doesn’t matter why. Fact is that shit is wrong, and Spags needs to make it right, or else somebody needs to make him right.

That was a gritty, gritty play Clark made to end the game. He obviously can barely even go anymore, but he got himself through on that one play. And when Jones was about to try some heroic BS like teams have been getting away with all season on us, Clark gathered himself and punched that BS right out of his hands.

Yeah, no way. OBJ sucks.

Much rather try to trade for a maybe-broken Michael Thomas, or Brandin Cooks.

I would rather trade for DeSean Jackson. He is more affordable and already has an understanding of the offense.

If he is at least able to get some penetration into the backfield it will be a plus. Until the last series of the game last night, our “pass rush” has looked anemic at best.

Against mobile QBs, Spags has those DEs playing a lot of contain, rather than just letting them pin their ears back. That’s part of it. That’s probably also why you saw Jones inside, more. I think they should just pin their ears back.
