Seth be spittin’ straight facts. Innocent until proven guilty, caught-on-video stuff notwithstanding. The worse the accusation, the more cautious you need to be, because while the process doesn’t change much, the consequences you might incorrectly call for can be catastrophic if you chose a side early. See primarily the Tyreek kerfluffle. I still occasionally encounter netizens who say with conviction that he broke his son’s arm, and all that nonsense.

In the past, once I got a clue I spoke in his defense, and I’ll do so now. I’ll also do so if he somehow signs with the Raiders, that shit’s the opposite of justice, and should be snubbed, when it pops up.

the more I think about the whole Rice thing, the odder it gets …

happened Sat 6 PM (ish) and by sometime last night the authorities knew who was involved

the Chiefs had to have known early on: if not then, at least early this morning when the “news” hit all the media outlets, yet they haven’t said a thing about it (officially) even though they’ve most likely been knee-deep in figuring out “damage control” on it

Rice just walks off and disappears into a vaccum? nah, that’s just not believable …

I can see why they’re changing, or at least trying it out, since kickoffs are null plays, where everyone moves, but nothing much happens. I remain uncertain about it, might have to watch the new league’s game a few times to see how it works. We’ll see.

I do have one problem with the critics of it, though. The kickoffs they’re evaluating are new on their own, and we must expect that if the big brains, Dave Toub, say, figure out how to exploit the new system. From what I’ve seen, there’s nothing to stop a return team’s player to cue on the returner, and sprint backwards into a blocking position with a head start on the guy over him, and if he’s flanked by a player who is quick enough to drive his guy into the free guy, that buys more time. When the ball’s in play, every half second counts.

So we shall see, but I’ll say this much, if the new system’s intended to lock out innovation, it’ll be a cure worse than the disease. JMNSHO

saints, my dear friend!

after considerable thought, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that you are 199% correct!

when you said …

Because we live in a capatlist system that needs the these companies to produce goods/ jobs to keep the economy going

you’re RIGHT!

Capitalism i pure evil and should be abolished in current form … we should be on some kind of Socialist / Democratic Socialism type of system instead .. it would be SO much better for EVERYONE: a true BOTTOM UP approach instead of the current TOP DOWN system

thanks, Saints … you’re a peach!

as for your “left” comment …

Democratic socialism is defined as having a socialist economy in which the means of production are socially and collectively owned or controlled alongside a democratic political system of government. Democratic socialists reject most self-described socialist states, which followed Marxism–Leninism.

IOW

Democratic socialism is a variant of socialism where the government is organized by democracy. In short, it believes that social and economic decisions should be made by those whom they most affect

Mrs BRAG got a solid laugh, when I related it to her. Of course, with verbal delivery one can add timing and tone, but still. Have some parody lyrics I’ve been evolving over the decades, and to this day I still sing it to her occasionally:

I’ll give you a bad joke a day dear
I’ll give you a bad joke a day
I’ll sing this song ’til the rivers run still
And the classics we know go away

What can I say, I’m her Roger Rabbit.

Interesting. From MY personal experience, when a lot of these modern small motor appliances ”short out, it usually comes from the circuit board. Most of these small appliances are powered by a very small board that doesn’t have enough gold or paladium to power/charge/keep it going for a long period of time. Anyways, that is just a scrappers POV

BleedingRedAndGold
Reply to  saints_chiefsfan1979
03/31/2024 11:41 pm

I won’t dispute that, but from what I’ve seen with SMT Mainline’s work on carbon-brushed HO motors is that the real culprit’s probably carbon buildup between the poles. In my experience as an electronics tech, on a cheapo board that would short out enough to wreck it. (Good god, the number of over-voltage zener diodes I’ve replaced, over the years) Clean up the contacts, replace the board, and it’ll likely be good to go. Remember that a $5 chip will inevitably blow to protect a 5-cent fuse, might up your scrapping game.

Relatedly, you should look up a recent Taofledermaus vid (You make it, we mach it), where someone sent in motor armatures (no copper) cast in resin or something to fit a 12ga shell. Really, really interesting results, even compared to the rest of the insane loads they shoot. (S/O to Ordnance Lab, just because)

Noted
Now . I only watched about half the video, but the person was using, basically a surptatine or, wind up motor to generate / distribute power in about a standard …mmm I would say small motor turn still (again think a fan ) type of energy. Furthermore, the wire in these appliances are more and more copper plated or low grade. So they are not evenly distributing power the way older appliances did

Considering all of these potential factors, a mere 23% of potential military recruits are actually eligible for service–the lowest rate in modern history. This will very likely bear significant consequences on our military readiness. The Army has been forced to cut its active-duty numbers to 466,000 from 476,000. Even more troubling, specialized roles are particularly at risk of being left unfilled. In recent years, some cyber units in the Army were only operating at 55% capacity, and the Air Force has a shortage of over 2,000 pilots.

https://www.niskanencenter.org/military-enlistment-is-in-crisis-immigrant-recruitment-can-help/#:~:text=To%20serve%20in%20the%20U.S.,or%20GED%2C%20and%20speak%20English.

The state of immigrant service membersTo serve in the U.S. military, immigrant recruits must be legally and permanently (through an I-551 or Permanent Residence Card) present in the United States, have work authorization and at least a high school diploma or GED, and speak English. Immigrants can become naturalized through military service after one year of honorable service during peacetime or immediately during a “period of hostility,” such as the Global War on Terror.
An estimated 45,000 foreign-born service members are in the armed forces, with roughly 5,000 joining annually. According to naturalization data from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the most frequent countries of origin for naturalized service members since 2018 are the Philippines, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, and China.

I adopted an 8 year old dog, and several of unknown age. Gave them all a new name. Never had any issues. It takes them as long to learn the new one as it did their old one. The idea is if there is any bad attached to being called that, the dog gets to leave it behind them.

aricle from 2019

If all undocumented immigrants were deported today, next year’s Social Security trust funds would have approximately $13 billion less for benefit payouts. It’s a considerable loss of dollars, especially when it’s projected that the Social Security funds will be depleted by 2034.
According to New American Economy, undocumented immigrants contributed $13 billion into the Social Security funds in 2016 and $3 billion to Medicare. Three years prior, the Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration, Stephen Goss, wrote a report that estimated undocumented immigrants contributed $12 billion into Social Security.
Approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the U.S. with no legal authorization to work, yet an estimated 8 million do, both on and off the books. Since undocumented immigrants don’t have Social Security numbers and are not authorized to work legally in the U.S., they are not eligible for any Social Security benefits, whether they’ve paid into the system or not.

They are not only doing the work but are supporting are elderly

Not sure how that can be. most of them are working under the table, not to mention this overlooks the other benefits they are getting, like cash handouts, healthcare, and such. If you are undocumented, you simply can’t get the documentation you need to get a job in companies that are following the laws.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/18/us/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-cec/index.html

Critics of illegal immigration have long argued that undocumented immigrants who pay taxes are able to do so because they’re using stolen Social Security numbers. But millions of federal tax dollars are paid every year by people who don’t have Social Security numbers at all.

Where immigrants come from and where they go after reaching the US
Instead, they file using what’s known as an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
The Bipartisan Policy Center, a Washington-based think tank, notes that “most experts believe the vast majority of tax returns filed with ITINs today are filed by undocumented immigrants.”
Some noncitizens who legally immigrated to the United States also pay taxes using this method.
In 2019, according to the IRS, more than 2.5 million tax returns were filed using ITINs, accounting for nearly $6 billion in taxes.

In WaPo today.

As child labor violations soar across the country, dozens of states are ramping up efforts to update child labor laws — with widespread efforts to weaken laws, but some to bolster them as well.
The push for changes to child labor laws arrives as employers — particularly in restaurants and other service-providing industries — have grappled with labor shortages since the beginning of the pandemic, and hired more teenagers whose wages are typically lower than adults’.

Labor experts attribute the spike in child labor violations, which have tripled over the past 10 years according to a Post analysis, to a tight labor market that has prompted employers to hire more teens, as well as migrant children arriving from Latin America. In 2023, teens aged 16 to 19 were working or looking for work at the highest annual rate since 2009, according to Labor Department data.

That’s led to the largest effort in years to change the patchwork of state laws that regulate child labor, with major implications for the country’s youth and the labor market. At least 16 states have one or more bills to weaken their child labor laws and at least 13 are seeking to strengthen them, according to a report from the Economic Policy Institute and other sources. Among these states there are 43 bill proposals.

Meanwhile, the ability of teens to find part-time jobs to learn a job routine for money of their own (making them less dependent on their parents) keeps shrinking.

Case in point, California’s restaurant minimum wage increase is reducing the jobs employers can afford. That was an easily predictable outcome, as was the state’s effort to “protect” gig workers, and the higher price meant they lost income compared to before the law.

I stopped talking about the Law of Unintended Outcomes because nobody really listened. Ignoring it isn’t defensible at the gov’t scale, though.

The fact is that they are not contributing to SS if they are illegal. there are a lot of migrant workers in this area in the summer helping with harvest and such, but they do it legally. That’s how the program is supposed to work. The companies won’t suffer, because its the way business is done. The legal workers are there. all this millions of people we’ve added since are not even employable by these legitimate businesses.
