Pompano’s Potpourri: Bill Withers Appreciation Post
15 repliesIn a short 15-year career, Bill Withers won three Grammy Awards and was nominated for six more. He was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2005 and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Two of his songs were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
After leaving the Navy in 1965, he moved to LA to pursue a music career.
He worked as an assembler while making demos with his own money and playing club gigs.
When he returned with the song “Ain’t No Sunshine” in 1971, he refused to resign from his job because he believed the music business was a fickle industry.
He also cowrote this one.
I didn’t forget Lean On Me, it’s included here (19:35 mark).
Your turn.
In Greece with a tour group we visited the Theatre of Epidaurus and our guide encouraged someone to try out the accoustics so when no one else stepped up I gathered myself and belted out a couple of verses of Lean on Me.
Right now somewhere on this planet, Nas has his song choice made and is watching the clock tick to 5:30. Now that’s committed ..😃
I bet it’ll be a tune by Joe Satriani. Who’s your money on?
Thin Lizzy….
Austin just got moved back into stage four for Covid…… bullshit. 70% increase in cases this week compared to last..
I mean how hard is it to roll up your fucking sleeve…
Now I’m starting to wonder what’s going to happen come September When football is supposed to be at full capacity.
I just read an article today about how a doc down in Alabama said that they are only 30% vaccinated. All but one of her patients are unvaccinated, and that patient was expected to fully recover since their symptoms were much less severe.
Right before she hooks them up to breathing tubes (among others), they beg for the vaccine. She has to tell them that it’s too late.
When asked why they never got it, she said the answers are almost always that they thought it’s a hoax, it’s a political stunt, it’s like the flu, or they read something on facebook saying not to get it. 😥
Sadder yet… all these people still transferring the virus around are allowing it to mutate into new versions of itself, which is elongating the pandemic, endangering everyone else, and costing zillions of future dollars.
It’s absolutely horrible, what I’m afraid of, is this is going to mutate into something that we cannot stop with the vaccine… we were very fortunate to come up with a vaccine this fast for COVID-19 . That may not hold true for the next go around..
What’s even worse, a lot of the people spreading “misinformation” (propaganda) about the vaccine have been vaccinated (fox news, oan, etc.).
And none of them will be held responsible. 🙁
Wife works in big building for the IRS.
She has been working from home, they send an E-mail to employees when some one test positive. She hasn’t gotten a notification in a while, and today she received 6 e- mails on positive test..
This shit isn’t going away on its own !!
