Out Of The Afternight: “It’s A Trap!”
3 repliesIf you’re still up and want to talk Chiefs, or just hang with fellow citizens of the Kingdom, this is the place.
Sorry, admiral, but traps are never blatantly obvious, and you should know it!
This won’t take long, I began last time. Well, we shall see. But I meant what I said about visibility and the trappishness of this game, it’s only a trap if our guys fail to see the danger. There are reasons they might, too, like arrogance, sloppiness, and so on. Remember, I said “might”.
I think the reality is that they can’t avoid reality in those ways. They’ve won two, sure, but once they hit the tape room they saw their shortcomings. They didn’t enter the season like they might have in the past, when the swagger was on. Too much had changed and a train wreck lay behind them. They aren’t blind.
And even if someone might choose otherwise, he’s surrounded by people who ain’t having any of that. The locker room is absolutely self-responsible, and that starts with Pat, Trav, and Chris. You will be on time, you will give your all, and you will stay focused. They’ve been like that for a long, long time in NFL years, and it’s an advantage nobody talks about. But the thing is, it’s real.
But back to Miami, I believe they’ll win, and in spite of what I’ve already said, it’s still early days. The game has changed, to the point where entering the season shaky has become the normal expectation. We don’t really think about it, but it wasn’t all that long ago that any well-run team would be expected to start the season in line with reasonable and well established history behind it.
It was that way when Andy arrived, Clark Hunt having pulled off the steal of the century, but times have changed. Practice is more limited in time and impact, and I’ve noticed that teams aren’t as polished as before. Which brings us to the final point, that we still have to be ready for weird shi…stuff to happen, because I expect it will. Something unexpected will happen in any game, so don’t fall victim to the narrative.
Take heart and believe that the day will be ours, there’s every reason to do so, but if something goes sideways, it won’t be because of any “trap”. Falling for a trap takes overconfidence, and they can clearly see they have no reason for it following two close finishes. They’ll be ready. I believe in them, do you?
Schedule? What’s that, some kind of disease?
Well, until next time, best wishes, go Chiefs, and LFG!
With that, time’s yours.

Thanks Brag. I’m a bit more optimistic!
Still, in the end my narrative is to not trust narratives. A bit self-defeating if taken literally, right?
With the Chiefs, don’t trust anything but the final score!
