Chiefs slight road favorites over Raiders in Week 10 | usatoday

The Chiefs lead the all-time series over the Raiders with a 68-54-2 record, which includes a 13-3 run over their last 16 games, all during the Andy Reid era. Kansas City is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time this season. They’re still working through some issues on offense, but the defense has looked improved over the past two weeks.

Las Vegas has seen quite a bit of adversity over the last month, with Jon Gruden stepping down as head coach, plus a duo of former first-round draft picks Henry Ruggs III and Damon Arnette being released. They’re also coming off a Week 9 loss to the New York Giants, a team the Chiefs defeated in Week 8.

Andy Reid: I think the guys have played better on defense in the last two weeks | nbcsports

“The last two weeks, I think the guys have played better,” head coach Andy Reid said in his Monday press conference. “Some of it is just getting the guys back on the field as a unit. Getting ’24’ [Melvin Ingram] in there I think helped. That’s a nice addition. If you can add a Pro Bowl-type player in on the defensive line, it surely can’t hurt, and he got quite a few snaps in there on nickel situations. But they’re playing well together, and I think [defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo] ‘Spags’ is doing a nice job with the game plans.”

Chiefs Linked to Former All-Pro Cornerback Set to be Free Agent in 2022 | heavy

“Virtually any cornerback-needy team should be interested in signing Fuller on a short-term prove-it deal,” Knox wrote on Monday, November 8. “The Kansas City Chiefs could be a prime landing spot, as bad defense—it ranks 25th against the pass and 28th overall—is Kansas City’s Achilles’ heel.”

Pretty slim pickings for today’s huddle. So slim that this made the cut – in other words, I had to go to my checkdown:

Brian Baldinger breaks down halftime women’s flag football game from Chiefs vs. Packers | yahoo

https://sports.yahoo.com/brian-baldinger-breaks-down-halftime-185555914.html

Perhaps the most exciting part of the game was when both teams headed to the locker room for halftime, and a women’s flag football game took place around midfield to kill some time. The 7-on-7 matchup kept fans on the edge of their seats in the brief intermission and even caught the attention of Brian Baldinger, who broke down the action on Twitter Sunday night.

How have Chiefs rookies looked through first half of 2021 season? | usatoday

The Kansas City Chiefs are above .500 for the first time since their Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. Their rookie class has provided some major contributions to the success they’ve seen this season. Chiefs rookies have played in 2,078 total snaps between offense, defense and special teams. They’re one of the few teams with more than 2,000 total snaps by rookies. Kansas City currently has four rookie draft picks on the 53-man roster, one on the practice squad and one on injured reserve. Three of the four rookies on the 53-man roster are considered starters.

In the open portion of today’s practice, Clyde Edwards-Helaire & Kyle Long were with their teammates. This practice could start the clock on Edwards-Helaire’s expected return.

for all of you who give Mahomes a pass every single week, please consider the following from ESPN …

Since Week 5, Mahomes ranks 27th in QBR and has as many touchdown passes as interceptions (six). The only quarterbacks with a worse completion percentage over expectation (CPOE) than Mahomes’ minus-7.1% over that time frame are Jameis Winston and Sam Darnold. Mahomes also fumbled in four consecutive games after not fumbling once during the first quarter of the season. The only reason he came away without an interception in Sunday’s 13-7 victory over the Packers is because Kevin King dropped a gift

consider also that throws from Mahomes haven’t always been accurate, including against the Packers when some of his long throws were “short” and some of his short throws were “short” …

granted the Chiefs have “issues” with their #2 WR group, but has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe, just MAYBE, if Mahomes was a little more accurate and had a little more “touch” on the ball that maybe, just MAYBE, some of the “dropped passes” (and/or “tipped passes”) just might MAYBE have been caught instead?

nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and the overly simplistic “just get Josh Gordon” or “just get OBJ” is just that: overly simplistic … Gordon isn’t “the answer” and OBJ would be Gordon Ver 2 (only worse)

We all watch the games and know Mahomes isn’t playing to his fullest potential.

For me, it boils down to this: Do you think Mahomes is permanently slumping and will never return to his former glory?

I think he’ll be just fine in the long run and will give us several more years of spectacular highlights.

no, I do NOT think it’s a “forever thing” … I think he needs to be more “Classic QB” and less “Gunslinger” … I have no issue with him firing off a 50 yard bomb, but not every single time, he needs to find a balance

Fair enough. I’d like Mahomes to relax a bit more and have fun out there. It seems when he’s “playing” rather than “working”, he shines much brighter.

no, the Chiefs would be stupid to get him … I mean look: Josh Gordon is far less of a Locker Room Prima Donna issue and in well over a month he has what, 2 catches? OBJ would be whining because Mahomes threw to Hill, he’d whine because Mahomes threw to Kelce, he’d whine because “the pass wasn’t thrown well enough when it bounced off his hands and got picked off”

and that’s not to mention the lack of cap space …

no, hard hard HARD pass on OBJ

Randy Moss balled @ Patriots (after Vikings & Raiders stops)
Chiefs have coach & Andy loves throwing the ball = OBJ happy

Chiefs are going nowhere with Hardman/Robinson

This just in Hardman just dropped another pass and Sorenson just gave up another TD and the Raiders are imploding.

A women’s flag football halftime show was probably fun to watch.

One of my favorites is when they do a youth flag football league and the kids get to hear the cheers from about 20,000 people still in their seats. You can see how excited all the children are.

Last thought as I am getting ready to leave for work – the most obvious solution for the defense was to improve the front four pressure. It took awhile but Veach finally made the move to improve the talent there with the acquisition of Ingram. We see the early results were positive – Ingrams presence was one reason for Jones great game. The most obvious solution for the offense is to upgrade the receivers – OBJ is out there and the Chiefs might make the move. Will we see improvement in the offense if we go for it and add him to the roster.

So OBJ has been in conversation with the Pats, Saints, and guess who? Us. Can’t believe they would want to bring that cancer in. We must be really desperate.

I will give you four reasons – Hardman, DRob, Pringle, and Gordon – for why we must be really desperate.

a desperate move is one thing (Josh Gordon) but a DEGENERATE move (OBJ) is something else entirely …

Andy is a great Hall of Fame coach but is he doing everything he can to help Mahomes and the offense out. I would say not as I can come up with many items off the top of my head that seem to provide evidence against him. I remember how the coaching staff hung Andrew Luck out to dry – consistent deep drops with poor protection – which led to a very early retirement. Harbaugh with Baltimore designed his entire offense around what Lamar Jackson does well. As a coach for this year, Andy is somewhere between those two extremes. I will temper this argument with the fact that it is easy to be critical after the fact. Coaches can have good plans that do not show results on the field. People will say – run the ball – but the coach is rather hamstrung if the team is not able to run the ball consistently.

IF I ever had the time, I would love to write a very long and detailed fan post about the core issue for each position and player. I am thinking about analyzing each with four different sets of parameters – Talent, Coaching, Execution, and X Factors – to try and determine what is causing overall substandard play. Talent is self explanatory, the Coaching focuses in on are they put in the best position to succeed, Execution should be easy to define as well, whereas the X Factor is a huge bag of other influences. For example, with Patrick Mahomes, Talent is not an issue at all. Grade – A. Coaching would probably receive a C. There are many examples where the coaches help him out with some play calls but many in which things seem questionable. The passes on the jet sweeps are an example of positive play calls and the planned roll outs to avoid pressure with a quick target in mind. The reluctance to help a struggling tackle out is an example of the negative. Patrick has struggled in some games with Execution in the pocket. I could write forever here but it boils down to he is doing more thinking than playing in the pocket. Grade: C. Many will want to bump down that grade but Patrick does have plenty of moments that balance this out. X Factor – Grade F. The inconsistency of our tackles, the horrid level of play amongst the receivers, the amount of turnovers, the frustration which is quite evident are some immediate thoughts. As you can see from this rushed analysis, a detailed fan post would last forever.

yanno what? I think the MAIN issue (with Mahomes) is that he isn’t reading the defenses and isn’t checking down … he’s used to running “busted plays” (street ball, just like a very young John Elway used to do) and once he gets past Hill/Kelce he hasn’t a clue who’s where or when (at least at times) and by then he has to hurry his throws (which hurts accuracy) and that means passes off fingertips, etc … it seems to be all wrapped up together

but that’s just my speculation
