Chiefs news for March 28, 2023

Jump to Tweets | Jump to comments

Good morning, AG!

Today in Chiefs history, there’s nothing to report.

On this day in 1930 Constantinople was renamed Istanbul, in 1941, Virginia Woolf died, Dwight D Eisenhower died in 1969, Three Mile Island leaded radioactive material in 1979, and in 2004, Sir Peter Ustinov died in 2004.

The news follows.

Tennessee RT Darnell Wright appears to be visiting Chiefs | ChiefsWire

NFL podcaster Billy Marshall shared a screen grab of Tennessee RT Darnell Wright’s Instagram story in which he’s spotted arriving at the new terminal at Kansas City International Airport. The Chiefs already met with Wright formally at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis along with 11 other NFL teams. Now, it appears they’re using one of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits on the expected first-round draft pick.

Chiefs depth chart projection after initial waves of free agency

Right now, the team has 61 total players under contract for the 2023 NFL season. In our projection, we’re taking a look at preseason depth charts from 2022 through the Super Bowl LVII depth chart to inform our decisions. The holdovers from the 2022 NFL season will have a big advantage. Key free agents and reserve/future signings who were with the team in the past will get a bump in our projection as well.

Contract details for new Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill revealed | ChiefsWire

According to the folks at Over The Cap, the 28-year-old Tranquill will have a $1.01 million base salary in 2023, which is fully guaranteed. There is also a $1.440 million prorated bonus. The deal has $510K in per-game roster bonuses. There’s also a $40K workout bonus attached to the offseason program. That’ll bring the 2023 salary cap number for Edwards to a grand total of $3 million, which is only slightly more than the $2.8 million charge for Edwards.

Chiefs Check-in: Is Skyy Moore the answer at wide receiver? | ChiefsWire

Well, coach Andy Reid made some interesting comments about Skyy Moore’s future as the team’s top wide receiver, and editor Charles Goldman put together another full seven-round Chiefs mock.

Chiefs projected to receive two compensatory picks in 2024 NFL draft so far | ChiefsWire

According to Over The Cap’s Nick Korte, the Chiefs are projected to receive two fifth-round compensatory picks in the 2024 NFL draft as a result of their free agents gained and lost. Kansas City has lost six qualifying compensatory free agents: Orlando Brown Jr. ($16M), Andrew Wylie ($8M), JuJu Smith-Schuster ($8.5M), Juan Thornhill ($7M), Mecole Hardman ($4.5M) and Khalen Saunders ($4.1M). Meanwhile, the team has gained four qualifying compensatory free agents: Jawaan Taylor ($20M), Charles Omenihu ($8M), Drue Tranquill ($3M), and Mike Edwards ($3M).

Chiefs’ Andy Reid Sounds Off on Eric Bieniemy Move: ‘I Was For It’ | Heavy

“So [Washington Commanders head coach] Ron [Rivera’s] a good friend,” Reid began. “Obviously, we were all together in Philadelphia. But Ron’s main focus is defense… he’s got that defensive background. This will give E.B. [Bieniemy] an opportunity to move in and run the whole show — get my name out of it and put his name on it. I think that that’s important right now, so I was for it. As much as I’m going to miss him, I was for it, because he deserves an opportunity.”

Analyst Says Chiefs Will Be Looking To Add To 1 Position Group This Offseason | The Cold Wire

It seems as though adding weapons downfield for Mahomes has become a priority once again for the defending Super Bowl champions, according to James Palmer of NFL Network.

MLB The Show breaks barrier with Negro League players

MLB The Show has broken a video game barrier: For the first time, the franchise will insert some of the greatest Negro League players — from Satchel Paige to Jackie Robinson — into the 2023 edition of the game as playable characters.

Video gamers are now able to venture into a storyline mode involving eight Negro League legends through MLB The Show 23, which releases Tuesday. The narrative experience will feature short videos about the players along with gameplay focused on the epic moments of their careers.

Along with Robinson and Paige, the game also features other players including Buck O’Neil, Rube Foster, Hilton Smith, John Donaldson, Hank Thompson and Martin Dihigo.

“This made sense on multiple levels,” said Bob Kendrick, the narrator of storyline experience and president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which is located in Kansas City, Missouri. Along with the museum, he partnered with Sony for the historic Black players’ insertion into the game.

9comment image Jartavius ‘Quan’ Martin*, CB/S, Illinois

Height: 6-0. Weight: 195.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Projected Round (2023): 2-3.

3/18/23: The 6-foot, 195-pound Martin is a versatile defensive back who is a weapon in the secondary. He can play safety, nickel corner, or outside corner. Martin is a smooth athlete with instincts. He is sleeper who could rise quickly as the 2023 NFL Draft approaches because he put together really good tape during the 2022 season. On the year, he recorded 64 tackles, three interceptions, 11 passes broken up, one sack and two forced fumbles. Martin then helped himself with an excellent combine showing.

Within 15 minutes, if memory serves.

Quick, yes, but still, what a senseless tragedy.

Uvalde, Texas, I believe. That’s part of why 15+ were killed that day.

(At least, the Uvalde one is the most recent incident where there was first-responder hesitation, and the one that sticks out in my mind.)

I believe the whole police department was sacked as a result.

One of the big ones in FL had a security guard freeze up in fear and not enter.

Uvalde PD didn’t learn from Columbine. The rules of engagement changed from wait-and-see to engage-immediately as a result of columbine

Hali studied hand-to-hand combat techniques such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu with now-Patriots coach Master Joe Kim in order to better his pass-rush arsenal. He perfected all of the little things that could help him be at the top of his game, even against opponents who outmatched him athletically. Hali turned the two-hand swipe into a nearly unblockable move during the course of his NFL career in part due to his relentless study and persistence.
