Good morning, AG!
Nothing of note in Chiefs history today.
Let’s have a look at the news, shall we?
Kansas City Chiefs place rookie WR Justyn Ross on Injured Reserve | Touchdown Wire
As noted by Pelissero, Ross recently had surgery on his left foot to revisit an injury suffered at the end of his college career. The receiver suffered the initial injury in Week 1 of the 2021 season, but after re-aggravating the injury during the year, he sat out the final three games of the season.
Tyreek Hill Didn’t Want to ‘Break up Something Special’ in KC | KC Star
https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/article263802258.html
I believe it was just one of those situations where my agent Drew Rosenhaus, one of the best in the game, he’s seeing Davante Adams break the bank with the Raiders and he called me. He was like, ‘yo, Tyreek, we’ve got to get the Chiefs on the phone and we’ve got to make something shake.’ I told him, I was like, ‘Drew, I don’t want to break up something special … let’s at least maybe not top it, but at least get somewhere close to it.’ The Chiefs, they were nowhere close to being close to the Davante Adams deal, so that’s really where everything broke down.

Chiefs decision makers having ‘open discussion’ about alternate uniform, helmets | Chiefswire
“To honor tradition is one of our core, fundamental values,” Donovan told reporters. “But I go back to that balance point of — if you look, more and more and especially this season — it just seems like with all the black helmets coming out and all the alternative uniforms that are out there.”
Chiefs rookie LB Leo Chenal eager for pads to come on at training camp | Chiefswire
“Yeah, I definitely pride myself in the violence, physicality part,” said Chenal. “I love that part of the game. That’s football to me. But, with a more passing league now, it’s an opportunity to progress in that area. I just got to continue to learn, put myself in uncomfortable situations. That’s how you become a better football player.”
Counting down the Chiefs’ single-season points per game leaders | Chiefswire
In the NFL you can’t win if you can’t score, and the Kansas City Chiefs have laid that reality bare over the last several seasons. Without Patrick Mahomes’ uncanny ability to materialize points seemingly out of thin air, the team wouldn’t have the ring to show for all their trouble since he took over as quarterback in 2018.
Isiah Pacheco on how Rutgers football helped prepare him for the NFL | rutgerswire
“Not necessarily I was…I used to be a little chubby but you know,” Pacheco told reporters.
“I got my myself down in a shape and you know, just being prepared for it and just took advantage of those opportunities.”
Chiefs rookie Darian Kinnard is preparing to play multiple offensive line positions | Chiefswire
Darian Kinnard, a fifth-round draft pick out of the University of Kentucky, was one of those exceptions. He boasts impressive size and quickness, but he played the right tackle position for the majority of his career. In the NFL with the Chiefs, Kinnard is preparing to play multiple positions along the offensive line.
Mecole Hardman laughed in response to ESPN host’s suggestion Chiefs could miss playoffs | KC Star
https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/for-petes-sake/article263795713.html
”I’m not gonna say we get at the bottom; we’re definitely at the top. I mean, what, (four) consecutive AFC championship (games)? (Four) consecutive. Six AFC West titles. I mean, I don’t think we’re just gonna fall off like that. So I’m pretty sure we still will be where we’re supposed to be at.”
Tyreek Hill keeps putting more pressure on Tua Tagovailoa | PFT
Hill would say he’s trying to give his quarterback a confidence boost. But Hill also is raising the bar for Tua, making it more conspicuous if Tua doesn’t get it done in 2022.

I’m sorry. Allow me to spell this out for you since apparently you really are that stupid.
I said that while I knew you were kidding, what you posted was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen you post. I didn’t call you stupid, at least not until your attacks turned personal.
Until this exchange, I would have stood by that. No more.

Am I missing something on Ross? I thought the plan was for him to try and make the team this season and contribute. Now he is out the whole year over an injury he already had? Is this surprising news to everyone else?
I’m not sure with the new IR rules if/when he can come back. In the old days he was out for the season, but now they can usually come back. I suspect its just to open up a roster spot for someone else.
It sounds like he had to have surgery again because the first one didn’t fix everything. The change from PUP to IR is probably negative he’s going to be out at least half the year and this frees a roster spot, hoosier pointed out. It’s been speculated for some time that he would probably be an IR candidate because the WR room is crowded and he has too much talent to trust to the waver wire.
I think this is a continuation of the foot injury he had. The surgery was to “fix” the surgery.
This is disappointing, for sure. Surprising, because he was cleared. The fact that he’s IR instead of gone tells me they still liked what they saw.
Kelce was out his rookie year. That turned out ok.
There was clearly concerns about his health coming in based on some of his pre-draft measurements, like his 40 time (4.64) and the fact that NO ONE drafted him. I think if anyone was convinced he was completely healthy some team would have taken a flier on him in the late rounds. I think the Chiefs hoped he was on the mend, but I think were prepared to pull this trigger from the start – if he wasn’t clearly 100% he was going on IR for the season.
He was a very low risk pick up, but yeah if he was healthy I agree someone would have burned a 6th or so.
I’m glad they are hanging on to him. If he can get healthy, he could be a great addition.

Add “humans” to that list
Humans are on top of that list.
I’ll double-down on that … especially some of the humans around here 😉
Nice collection of news today. Thank you!
Today is apparently steel drum appreciation day. And since it’s the middle of summer, this song seems all the more appropriate:
I think John Bonham used a type of steel drum here:
Oddly enough, I play steelpan. These two are my heros:
The last thing I want to see is the state of texas on the side of our helmets. Sorry Rip, not a big fan.
We don’t need throwback, alternate, inverse, whatever.
Other teams trot out all this stuff because their colors and designs are trash. We don’t need to.
Let’s not.
And never EVER Texas again.
The only alternates we have are the ones we need: red-on-red (I’m one of the very few who likes this look) and white-on-white.
That being said, in the KC area they sell (or used to, anyway) black jerseys with red numbers that actually look quite cool. I have a Priest Holmes one that I wear during division rival games – black because it’s my way of saying “Rest in peace, [Chargers’/Donkeys’/Raiders’] hopes of winning the AFC West” or “Abandon hope, all ye who enter into the Sacred Acre of Arrowhead Stadium.”
You know, it’s not the red/red LOOK I really dislike (although it is my least favorite), it’s that we always seem to play like we’re asleep in them. Because…

Fair enough. And I think we should go back to the “retro” yellow end zones we rocked in select games (including the postseason) in the 2019 campaign, because we were undefeated when the yellow end zones were used.
Like you,

YES to the endzones, at LEAST for any playoff games we host
Pretty sure Rip would agree with you, as do I.
