Big Ben has an impressive history vs. Chiefs: Will that continue on Sunday? | fox4kc

Since 2006, the Steelers are 7-4 vs. the Chiefs. Big Ben is 7-3 as the starter and did not play in the 2015 23-13 loss.

In that span, Roethlisberger has torched the Chiefs: 69% completion rate, 2,520 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. But that was mostly a young Roethlisberger; this Roethlisberger is 39 years old and could potentially be playing his final game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Saturday’s final regular-season game began as many of the others did for the Kansas City Chiefs this season, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the offense for a touchdown on its opening possession. The game then continued into another familiar pattern, with the Chiefs struggling for points the rest of the way. They had to rely on their defense to come up with the winning touchdown, an 86-yard fumble return by linebacker Nick Bolton, during a 28-24 win over the Denver Broncos.

The end of the NFL’s regular season means the Kansas City Chiefs know who they will face in the 2022 season, and while a lot can happen before September, it looks to be a tough slate of games.

For starters, the Chiefs will face five quarterbacks who finished in the top six in passing yards in the 2021 season (Tom Brady, Justin HerbertMatthew Stafford, Derek Carr and Joe Burrow). The other player in the top six is the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.

I’m thinking that since Big Ben is sooooooo sure that his team doesn’t have an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning, that the Steelers should just stay at home and “forfeit” the game … the SAFE thing to do during these times of rampant Omicron … and we (fans) would love them forever and ever and ever (or something like that)

I’d take the easy win. Even though the fan in me would rather see on the field domination.

(Or any on the field winning. I’m going to be away Sunday night and may not get to watch the game.)

What could possibly be more important than a chiefs playoff game?!

Since it very well could be Ben’s last game, I’m a bit nervous that they are going to let him toss some bombs trying to get pass interference calls or receptions. A lot of teams have had great success on the long bomb against our defense.

no reason for Tomlinson to hold back anything … they’ll go deep, sidelines, middle, anything anywhere anytime

Spags & Defense best be ready: Honey Badger gotta tackle, Sorensen has to be on the line and not in pass cover, CJ and Clark and Ingram gotta be on their game, Bolton and Gay and Hitch best have this down pat

one thing I’ve noticed about Steelers this year, they’ve been in a lot of “Prime Time” games and even when they get down, even by a lot, they almost always seem to come back … not always “all the way” but almost always enough to make things very uncomfortable

Precisely what I’m worried about. We are the better team, but only if we’re focused.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes discusses lessons learned in playoffs past. Mahomes was asked about the lessons that he’s learned in his nine career postseason games during his weekly press conference.
.
“Yeah, I mean, I think the first thing you kind of realize is that at any moment, one play can change, really the entire game. I know it’s like that in the regular season,” Mahomes told reporters. “but in the playoffs, it goes to a different level. You know that one play can end your season or keep it going. You try to limit your mistakes as much as possible, knowing that it’s going to be a battle to the very end every single playoff game.”
.
“I think you look back at that Tennessee game my first year,” Mahomes said. “There were little plays here and there. The touchdown that (Marcus) Mariota threw that got slapped down, and he ended up catching it for a touchdown, the tackle by Derrick Johnson early in the game that was a fumble and ended up saying the forward progress was stopped. Those little plays changed the outcome of the game. You know that those little things matter. You have to make sure you really focus on the details, do what you can in order to find a way to win a game.”

Those Pioli years roughly coincided with my time in the military and were pretty hard years to be a Chiefs fan – 2010 notwithstanding.

I got on it about four days after the Belcher incident in December 2012, but I had been lurking there since about 2009 I believe. It kept me in touch with Chiefs fans the world over while I was in Iraq.

that was a sad, sad day in Chiefs history … even seemed to transform Pioli (he gave a moving speech a few years ago at some college graduation and made reference to it)

he gets serious about the 4:30 mark … and talks about the Chiefs at 11:30 mark

I find it completely unreasonable that Will Shields should have to knock out Kelce, or vice versa. The homer in me wants the round shuffled.

That said… Campbell, Shields, Rice, Smith
