Chiefs news for Feb 8, 2023

Good morning, AG!

Today in Chiefs’ history, Alex Okafor (DE, 2019-2021) was born in 1991. In 1963, the Dallas Texans become the Kansas City Chiefs, and the rest of the story you already know.

Elsewhere, in 1976, Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, had its world premiere

1974: The use of Skylab, a U.S. space station, came to an end after 171 days

1931: James Dean, who became a symbol of the confused, restless, and idealistic youth of the 1950s, was born

1920 or maybe 1921: Lana Turner, a sultry Hollywood glamour queen with a tumultuous private life, was born. She ain’t tellin’.

1915: The landmark film The Birth of a Nation, by D.W. Griffith, made its premiere at Clune’s Auditorium in Los Angeles; while hailed for its technical and dramatic innovations, the epic was condemned for its overt racism and positive portrayal of the Ku Klux Klan.

1587: My distant ancestor (or so I am told) went and got her damn fool head cut off when Mary, Queen of Scots, rival of Queen Elizabeth I of England, was beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle, her execution a chilling scene redeemed by the great personal dignity with which she met her fate. That’s great. Still got her head chopped off.

Let’s try not to lose our heads as we dig into the news coming out of Arrowhead West in Vegas… (don’t skip the last item. Good read)

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce wants to honor Norma Hunt with Super Bowl LVIII victory | Chiefswire

The Kansas City Chiefs are in a familiar position during Super Bowl media sessions this week as they try to secure back-to-back titles. The unfamiliar part is still tough to accept as they will play in Sunday’s Super Bowl knowing that the matriarch of the franchise, Norma Hunt, will not be present for the first time in the game’s history.

As the Kansas City Chiefs battle in Sunday’s Super Bowl, sharp-eyed fans may spot a patch on the players’ jerseys bearing the letters “NKH.” The initials, in gold letters inside a football, aren’t a fancy new logo — they’re a tribute to Norma Knobel Hunt, a former minority owner of the Chiefs whose life and career were deeply intertwined with the Kansas City franchise and the early history of the National Football League.

24 years ago, he played in a Super Bowl as a player. Now, Terry Killens is making history as an official | CNN via Yahoo

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/24-years-ago-played-super-120241948.html

As Kevin Dyson’s full-stretch reach comes up agonizingly short, it ensured heartbreak for Terry Killens. In what has gone down in folklore as one of the most famous plays in NFL history, the “One Yard Short” – where Dyson dived for the goal-line in an attempt to score a touchdown in the final seconds of Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 which would have given the Tennessee Titans the chance to tie the game against the then St. Louis Rams, only to be tackled just shy – meant Killens came so close, yet so far, to Super Bowl glory.

And finally, a very good article about what this win will mean not just to the Chiefs, but to the city

Opinion: What a Super Bowl win would mean for fans of the Kansas City Chiefs | CNN via Yahoo

https://www.yahoo.com/news/opinion-win-lose-super-bowl-123450344.html

Growing up outside Kansas City, football was inescapable. Kansas Citians ended conversations by saying “Go Chiefs!” instead of goodbye. Every Friday, we went to schools and offices dressed up in Chiefs gear for “Red Friday.” Die-hard fans tailgated for hours in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot.

When you post the gif image (whether on mobile or on your computer), get rid of all the text in the link after “.gif” – i.e., [really long image link] .gif&ct=g <<<< that “&ct=g” is what we’re getting rid of, so that all we see at the end of the file link is “.gif”.

This will post the image without “&ct=g” at the bottom of it.

العين means “the eye” (الـ meaning “the” and عين meaning “eye”)

Interestingly, عين is also a letter in Arabic (and Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac I believe, and Phoenician)… I can’t speak to its pronunciation in other languages, however, but in Arabic it sounds like saying “eh” while your larynx is crushed.

Havent gotten all the way thru barnwells espn+ article. You sgould read if you have an extra 20 min and an espn + supscription but heres why we are going to win.

“The word that MatchQuarters’ Cody Alexander used to describe the 49ers’ defense is probably the most accurate one: static. They will make exceptions, as we saw when they showed man coverage pre-snap and played zone afterward on the second failed fourth down by the Lions, but they’re generally consistent. What an offense sees before the snap is what it’s getting after the snap. And what it saw last week is what the offense is going to see this week.”

Goes on to talk about Ward not following wrs and stuck on the left side.

I cringe at the flashbacks this gives me to bob poopy pants sutton. Coaching malpractice. Reid and Nagy are going to coach circles around their shitty DC with adjustments as the game goes on.

The &ct=g? or whatever?

When you post the gif image (whether on mobile or on your computer), get rid of all the text after “.gif” – i.e., [really long image link] .gif&ct=g

When posting the above image, get rid of the “&ct=g” so that the link just ends in “.gif.” Then it should show up on AG without any text at the bottom:
