Why is NFL banning hip-drop tackle, and what does that even mean?| Yahoo Sports

https://sports.yahoo.com/why-is-nfl-banning-hip-drop-tackle-and-what-does-that-even-mean-breaking-down-latest-controversial-rule-change-215134053.html

The hip-drop tackle, league executives began saying last year, inflicted injury at 25 times the rate of the average tackle.

And this wasn’t just any injury, the league’s health and safety committee said. This was a time-loss injury.

Fifteen times last season — nearly once a week in a sport where each team plays 17 regular-season games — a player was tackled via what the league is now calling a “swivel” hip-drop tackle, and that player missed game time due to the tackle.

Perhaps as concerning for the committee: The 230 examples of this move that they found on 2023 tape represented a 60% increase from the previous season’s frequency.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on Brett Veach’s decision to trade DB L’Jarius Sneed to Titans

The football world was shocked to learn that Kansas City Chiefs defensive back L’Jarius Sneed had been traded to the Tennessee Titans. The early Saturday morning news didn’t leave much time for reaction from many players and front-office personnel, aside from social media.

https://fox4kc.com/sports/chiefs/chiefs-andy-reid-says-multiple-teams-tried-to-hire-steve-spagnuolo-in-the-offseason/

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was at the helm of one of the most prolific defenses in franchise history.

That, along with two straight Super Bowl wins and becoming the first coordinator ever with four Super Bowl wins (two with the Giants) led to Spags being pursued by multiple teams in the offseason.

Andy Reid says bring on new NFL kickoff rules, odd as the alignments might look | KC Star

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article287063795.html

Consider Andy Reid a “yes” vote when it comes to the NFL’s new kickoff rule. Presumably, the proposed rule change has the Chiefs’ support, as well. The kickoff proposal could be voted upon at the NFL’s annual league meetings this week in Orlando, Florida. The new kickoff formation is intended to reduce concussions while infusing additional action into an aspect of the game that has grown stale over the years.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes shares insights from first workouts with Hollywood Brown | KC Star

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/for-petes-sake/article287052305.html

New Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown wasted little time in getting to work. Brown signed with the Chiefs last Monday and then joined quarterback Patrick Mahomes and receiver Rashee Rice for workouts with Mahomes’ trainer, Bobby Stroupe. Photos and videos were shared on social media, and Mahomes said the thought of documentation made the guys work harder.

“He was on the last year of his deal and so I think his dream was to become a head coach and still is. Hopefully he has that opportunity next year to do that,” Reid told ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “So, it didn’t work out that way so we just jumped on it, knowing that teams were going to be coming after him.”

They should put the key game winning plays on the menu. Jet Chip Wasp didn’t exactly win the game but it was key to igniting the comeback.

I like it. Jet Chip Wasp could be a buffalo chicken and fries combo, if they go that way. Corn Dog is a natural, and Tom & Jerry should be easy (surf & turf, perhaps?). 65 TPT should be in there as well, seems like there are several things that could be.

I’ve had an ad showing up in X for a company that makes coasters with diagrams of historic plays for pro and college teams. I don’t think I want coasters, but I would like a set of big play t-shirts or something for KC. Those 4 plays would definitely be on there.
