Good morning AG!

Today in Chiefs history:  Braxton Hoyett was born in 1996 (yeah, that’s what we said, too)

Today in Other history, it’s Sugar Ray Day

In 1991 a Michigan court bars Dr Jack Kevorkian from assisting in suicides (you could say they “killed” that idea)

In 1977, future 5-division (FIVE!  I mean, like Ho Li Wow!) world boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard makes his professional debut with a 6-round unanimous decision over Luis Vega at Baltimore’s Civic Center

1971 actor Marcus Redman (Raymond-Doogie Howser) was born

Also in 1971, Apollo 14, the 3rd US manned Moon expedition, lands near Fra Mauro, and both Alan Shepard & Edward Mitchell (Apollo 14) walk on the Moon for 4 hours, eventually inspiring Michael Jackson to do “Thriller” or something like that

In 1947 actor David Ladd (Raymie, Catlow, Misty, Deathline) was born in Los Angeles, California

1944 saw the “Captain American” serial film premiere, starring Dick Purcell, marking the first appearance of a Marvel superhero outside a comic book (it would not, however, be the last time)

In 1943, Jake LaMotta defeated the future multi-weight world boxing champion Sugar Ray Robinson by unanimous points decision in Detroit in the 2nd of their 6 meetings; his only win of their rivalry;  it was Robinson’s first loss in his first 40 pro bouts

1940 Glenn Miller and his Orchestra record “Tuxedo Junction” (perhaps the greatest song of all time, or not, but still very very good)

Finally, in 1723 one John Witherspoon was born in Gifford, Scotland.  Witherspoon later became president of the College of New Jersey and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence (even though he would technically have been an immigrant, or not)

… and cake is made with Sugar

we shall now endeavor to find bits and morsels of something like “Chiefs News” …

Yes, we HAVE The Spirit!

Five bold Super Bowl 2024 predictions as 49ers, Chiefs face off: Will this be Travis Kelce’s last game? | CBS Sports

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/five-bold-super-bowl-2024-predictions-as-49ers-chiefs-face-off-will-this-be-travis-kelces-last-game/

Super Bowl LVIII is set, as the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will battle in Las Vegas for the Lombardi Trophy. The Chiefs appear to have overcome their regular-season offensive struggles, and even won two playoff games on the road as underdogs against the Buffalo Bills and No. 1-seeded Baltimore Ravens. As for the 49ers, the No. 1 seed in the NFC scraped by the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions to make it back to the Big Game.

Super Bowl pitfalls: Chiefs, 49ers aim to avoid Las Vegas’ temptations | Daily Mail UK

The NFL’s first Super Bowl in Las Vegas comes with its own set of challenges, most of which can be inferred by its ‘Sin City’ reputation.

The league no longer tests for marijuana, so Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers players looking to indulge in weed-legal Nevada won’t have any issues there.

But Vegas has no shortage of other vices that could put Super Bowl LVIII participants in legal or professional jeopardy, which is why both teams are staying in Henderson – about 25 miles away from the Vegas Strip.

NFL players enthusiastic about prospect of pursuing Olympic gold when flag football debuts in 2028 | AP News

https://apnews.com/article/nfl-players-flag-football-olympics-0b78f64394a727f68bb715c3ab2f59d0

Tyreek Hill is a five-time All-Pro, eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a Super Bowl champion.

The speedy Miami Dolphins receiver likes the idea of also having an opportunity to pursue Olympic gold when the rapidly growing sport of flag football debuts in the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, a sentiment shared by other NFL stars, including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Super Bowl 2024: Five under-the-radar players on Chiefs who could be huge X-factors vs. 49ers | CBS Sports

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/super-bowl-2024-five-under-the-radar-players-on-chiefs-who-could-be-huge-x-factors-vs-49ers/

The Kansas City Chiefs are back on the big stage once again, and looking to become the first repeat Super Bowl champion since the 2003-04 New England Patriots. There was a lot of talk about the lack of explosive plays in Kansas City’s offense and if Patrick Mahomes could win on the road in the playoffs, but here we are again. The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl.

You’re familiar with Kansas City’s stars, such as Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones and the emerging Rashee Rice and George Karlaftis. But are there other Chiefs players who could decide what happens on Feb. 11? Below we will break down five under-the-radar players who could make the difference vs. the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon designated to return off injured reserve | CBS Sports

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/super-bowl-2024-chiefs-running-back-jerick-mckinnon-designated-to-return-off-injured-reserve/

The Kansas City Chiefs may be getting some reinforcements as they make a bid for their third Lombardi Trophy in five seasons. The club designated veteran running back Jerick McKinnon to return off injured reserve on Saturday, according to NFL Media. That means McKinnon can begin practicing with the team and possibly play in Super Bowl LVIII if he is activated onto the 53-man roster in time.

Patrick Mahomes’ dad arrested on DWI charge in Texas | yahoo!

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/patrick-mahomes-sr-father-chiefs-205018232.html

Patrick Mahomes Sr. has been arrested.

The dad of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and a former MLB pitcher, 53, was booked in the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas, on Saturday, according to jail records.

He is facing a charge of DWI for the third time or more, per the records, and his bond has been set at $10,000.

NFL analyst rants about Chiefs being underdogs for Super Bowl LVIII: ‘How in the world’ | Fox News

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/nfl-analyst-rants-chiefs-underdogs-super-bowl-lviii

The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the last five seasons, and they could be ushered in as the next NFL dynasty if they win their third.

Yet, despite the experience of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, sportsbooks around the country believe the San Francisco 49ers, the winners of the NFC, are the slight favorites in this matchup.

That has one NFL analyst very confused heading into the week before the big game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

On this date in 2022, rock/pop/funk-metal band Sugar Ray played a show at Universal Music Plaza Stage, Orlando, FL.

It’s the best I could find.

I have to say, I don’t really remember a team whining before a SB about the officiating. All that shows me is that they don’t have the confidence to play us straight up. They’re looking to plant a narrative in the refs head before the game. What a bunch of ……..! I really hope our team embarrasses these guys now. I mean like a 75-0 score! Get out of here with that nonsense!

Posting GIFs? It’s, in many ways, the same as posting a static image.

What I do is go to Google Image Search, search for (for example) “Kansas City Chiefs Lombardi Trophy,” and find an example of the image I want. Make sure it’s full-size and not the thumbnail/image preview (you may have to click “Visit” to get to the website that’s hosting the image), then right click on the image and click “Copy Image Link” (or something equivalent.)

You should get something like this:

https://www.ksnt.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/86/2023/07/IMG_8168-3 .jpg

The file extension (that stuff after the dot at the end) is important: if an image’s file extension ends in .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .png, or something like that, it should embed. (Avoid WebP like the plague, since those don’t embed correctly on this site.)

If all goes according to plan, you should get something like this:

comment image

For GIF images (i.e., the dancing girls/those that move), the process is much the same, but in Google Image Search just add “gif” to the search string. You should get something like this:

https://media1.tenor.com/m/rYfUh138JcoAAAAC/kansas-city-chiefs-kc .gif

Assuming the file extension ends in .gif (as it does above), you should get something like this:

comment image

Please note that there should not be a space in the file’s link: I merely added that in to show you how things should look when copy-and-pasting.

“On the eye and [on] the head.” It’s a (very) metaphorical way of saying “You’re welcome” in Arabic.

The eye is very important in Arabic; one way of referring to someone dear to you (whether a friend or a romantic partner) is literally “my eye” – عيني. I’m not sure where the “head” part of that construction comes from.

Everything Nas suggested works. Another, maybe a little easier is go to giphy.com, find a gif you want to post. Click the share button on the right, then click the copy gif link. Come back here, right click in the post comment box and paste.

Don’t try to upload a photo that you’ve downloaded; do it directly from the internet. (For some reason WordPress and/or the Laws of the Internet don’t do well with uploaded images.)

And follow the steps above; make sure the URL ends with .jpg/.jpeg, .bmp, or .png – and it should post it here.

It is easier to do from a computer than the phone but is still possible on your phone.

From Android, you can do a similar process. Google Image Search the image, then click “visit” on the result you want. Scroll down until you find the photo, long-press (i.e., tap and hold) on the photo, click “Copy Image URL” or something equivalent, come here and paste it. Should have the same caveats as above, and won’t work with a photo you’ve downloaded.

(I don’t know how to do it from an iPhone but I think the process “under the hood,” as it were, is fairly similar, even if it’s a bit different interface.)
