In A.D. 70, Jerusalem was sacked by the Romans, and the Temple burned to the ground. The destruction of the Second Temple and the loss of the city is commemorated by the day of Tisha b’Av, a traditional day of mourning for Jews.

The Incan empire effectively comes to a close on this date in 1533 with the execution of Atahuallpa, the 13th emperor of the civilization.

In 1632, English philosopher John Locke, known for works which lie at the foundation of modern philosophical empiricism, was born in England.

In 1825, Brazil and Portugal signed the Treaty of Rio de Janeiro, which granted Brazil independence (as an empire) and ending their struggle for independence.

In 1862, Union Major General John Pope unleashed heavy (but ultimately futile) attacks against Confederate General “Stonewall” Jackson during the opening fusillade of the Second Battle of Bull Run (also known as Second Manassas).

In 1915, Ingrid Bergman, an actress known for her natural charm, vitality, and intelligence, was born in Stockholm, Sweden.

Tyreek Hill may want to join Kansas City again, a move which (on paper) makes no small amount of sense given the history with the team, and with Patrick Mahomes. However, after a massive knee injury in 2025 sidelined him for the year, he still finds himself without a team.
Could the Chiefs, who need another WR (especially as Rashee Rice continues to fight the law and the law continues to win), and Hill have a reunion?

Jalen Royals is having a huge preseason, making defenders miss while in Tampa Bay (even if the Chiefs came out on the wrong side of that one). And his stock is trending upward this season, with Andy Reid saying that he is “getting better every day.” But can he continue that uptick in the regular season?

Peter Woods has had a “stellar” time in training camp, and should make a fine rotational piece along the Chiefs’ defensive front. Though he is not yet expected to be a starter, Nate Taylor wrote that he “should pair well alongside star pass rusher Chris Jones,” noting Woods’ “athleticism, power and quickness.”

The Kansas City Chiefs Could Move On from 27-Year-Old CB | Gridiron Heroics

The Chiefs made some waves last offseason by signing Kristian Fulton to the defensive backfield, and then Fulton… didn’t really do much, suffering an injury that sidelined him for most of the season. This preseason he hasn’t really given the coaching staff a reason to consider keeping him, though this is a contract year for Fulton.
