You know this time of year we have the draft upon us and it always irks me when the discussion centers around the Defensive End position as opposed to the Edge position.
It seems to me that the DE is a hand in the dirt position whereas the Edge is a stand up position that’s played in a 3-4 defensive scheme. An Edge player is a Linebacker, not a DE.
We play a 4-3 defensive scheme. It bugs the hell out of me when guys are always clamoring for an Edge draft candidate and we don’t really have that position on the team.
So I guess the two positions are both often called DE eventhough one is a Linebacker. Can someone explain this to me?
