Bengals will need to stop the slow starts to overcome Chiefs in Week 2 | Bengals Wire

Bengals will need to stop the slow starts to overcome Chiefs in Week 2

The Cincinnati Bengals will need to avoid the slow start in 2024 that has hampered the team’s past few seasons.

This was an obvious change for the team, yet it was amplified all the more on Tuesday when the NFL revealed that the Bengals would visit the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Which is to say that the slow-starting issues could have massive AFC implications within the first two weeks of the season.

Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal is worth up to $4.5 million, includes a $1.125 million signing bonus, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Chiefs released Valdes-Scantling in February in a move to free up $12 million on their salary cap.

Trey Smith Named “Most Underrated” For Kansas City Chiefs | Sports Illustrated

https://www.si.com/college/tennessee/football/trey-smith-named-most-underrated-for-kansas-city-chiefs\

Former Tennessee Volunteers offensive lineman Trey Smith was recognized as the most underrated player on the Kansas City Chiefs roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been the class of the NFL over the past few seasons. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes II has made waves, earning two league MVPs and leading the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories, including their latest this season over the San Francisco 49ers.

Offensive guard Trey Smith is a centerpiece of the Chiefs’ success but rarely gets credit for his impact. Pro Football Focus went through the exercise of identifying each team’s “most underrated” player, and they picked Smith for Kansas City. He was formerly a highly-touted high school recruit who signed with the Tennessee Volunteers and compiled a fantastic collegiate career for the Vols.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs set to renew rivalry with Joe Burrow, Bengals in Week 2 of 2024 campaign | Clutch Points

https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-chiefs-set-to-renew-rivalry-with-joe-burrow-bengals-in-week-2-of-2024-campaign

The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals have one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL among teams who aren’t in the same division. They have played each other in multiple high-stakes playoff games over the past three seasons and have an animosity for each other that makes each game that much more exciting. NFL fans will not have to wait long for these two teams to face each other in the 2024 NFL season.

It’s a multi-year agreement for Kelce, who retired in March after 13 years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. He will join “Monday Night Countdown” in the buildup to “Monday Night Football” during the 2024 season, and the wild card and divisional round playoff games.

Which means…we VERY likely play the Texans the Saturday before Christmas and the Ravens play PIT

Christmas is a Wednesday. First off, why? Secondly, how does this even work?

Our game before is on Saturday, so I think the schedule will be similar to a Sunday to Thursday scenario.

I still hate it.

We will play the previous Saturday, for sure
That gives us the “normal” Sun-Thurs rest, even as it reduces the previous weeks rest. NFL logic.

Yeah, my better half is still mad at me for watching a Chiefs game last Christmas. I’m still mad I wasted 3 hrs watching such a shit performance.

I hope I can watch it later, not live, since I won’t be able to DVR it.

This whole thing with having NFL games on Christmas day is FUCKED UP.

Making NFL games exclusive on certain streaming platforms alienates a large number of fans who either can’t or don’t want to spend money to see their favorite team play. You might as well make the Super Bowl a PPV event at this point. Stupid.

Does that go dark for the game? I can’t get OOM broadcasts on game day

It does not go dark on game days, typically, however it’s only available for US-based IP addresses. Certain extensions like NoScript and Privacy Badger can also hinder the stream but to my knowledge neither one has ever blocked it. (Sometimes, however, being in a private window can cause it to act up.)

I think someone pointed out that the Bengals have recently been slow out of the gate and that person was told it didn’t matter because that was the past but someone else.
Good to see that others realize the importance of history in planning for the future when the history is basically unchanged from the present

I’m with you. I think it’s important to understand WHY the Chiefs typically start hot versus a lot of other teams. Under Andy the Chiefs, including starters and stars, get plenty of contact and play in preseason games. The Bengals start slow under Taylor because he doesn’t play starters in the preseason and barely let’s them have contact in practice.

Last season the Chiefs had struggles because one unit (all together now – THE WIDE RECEIVERS) failed to “do their jobs”. The rest of the team, particularly the defense, played well right off the bat. The Bengals have started like this every season under Taylor, and it takes them a month to start playing well, and it’s a whole team problem, though their offensive line is usually the group that suffers most from the lack of practice. Unless Taylor realized he can’t putz around to start this season, I expect we will see the same thing, so I’m glad we’re getting them early.
