Good Morning AG! Today in history, Taco Charlton was born in 1994. It was an ugly win, but better than a pretty loss…

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs survive | yahoo

https://sports.yahoo.com/patrick-mahomes-kansas-city-chiefs-004619586.html

The Kansas City Chiefs got a win on Sunday thanks to a number of different contributions. A much-maligned defense came through in a few different ways, albeit against a young quarterback making his first NFL start. Special teams played a role as well, as the Chiefs blocked a field goal and recovered a fumble on a muffed punt.

Packers flounder, fall to Chiefs with Aaron Rodgers ruled out amid COVID-19 saga | usatoday

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2021/11/07/green-bay-packers-kansas-city-chiefs-score-aaron-rodgers-covid/6333880001/

Love, 23, made his first NFL start on Sunday while Rodgers isolates after testing positive for COVID-19, and what a learning experience it was as the Packers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs, 13-7, at Arrowhead Stadium. The result snapped Green Bay’s seven-game winning streak (7-2) while Kansas City (5-4) has won consecutive games for the first time all season.

Can’t-Miss Play: Mahomes recaptures his vintage form on game-sealing strike to Tyreek Hill | nfl.com

https://www.nfl.com/videos/can-t-miss-play-mahomes-recaptures-his-vintage-form-on-game-sealing-strike-to-ty

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes escapes pressure and throws an off-balance game-sealing completion to wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

WATCH: Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed records his first interception of 2021

https://sports.yahoo.com/watch-chiefs-cb-l-jarius-002206742.html

This season, Sneed has played mostly the nickel corner spot and he hasn’t been as productive. Against the Packers in Week 9, however, Sneed had himself a day. He had an early pass defended in the game, but his most impressive play came in coverage against Green Bay’s top offensive weapon, Davante Adams.

Well, that wasn’t the first start Jordan Love would have drawn up for himself.

The second-year quarterback struggled in relief of Aaron Rodgers as the Green Bay Packers lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, 13-7.

How about how Josh Gordon is coming along, and should we expect much more?

Eafox has suggested he himself in a wheelchair would be more productive out there than Gordon et al. That’s not a stretch these days. This is a low bar, a slug wouldn’t break a sweat clearing it.

If that sounds toxic then so be it. A person lost in the desert who is rescued and provided with an unlimited supply of water might be excused for bingeing. If their drinking straw develops a kink and that supply of water becomes sporadic would their complaints be toxic?

I think the Josh Gordon experiment has been a failure, largely. He wasn’t getting many targets to begin with, and that number dropped to one yesterday.

what, Mahomes can’t say “run a wheel from the slot on the left” or “take off on a post route from the right side” … come on, man

keep seeing Mahomes say how all is soooooo good in practice all week long, so what up? it’s just football, it can’t be THAT hard

Uh, Patrick isn’t the HC. He isn’t the one calling the plays or determining who is on the field, but you seem obsessed putting everything on Patrick. It’s not THAT hard, Andy is running the show.

POSITIVE:

  • No turnovers & win

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT:

  • Andy – RUN THE F*CKING BALL | EVOLVE THE OFFENSE
  • Patrick – CHECK DOWN
  • Spags —- STOP PLAYING DAN & BEN!!!!!
  • Veach – CALL MITCHELL SCHWARTZ

Harman, Robinson are still BOZO’s | Chiefs for yearssssss has never had a TRUE #2 WR……..for yearssssssssss

Willams is too slow
give snaps to GORE (aka: Mini Priest)

Something personally is going on with Kelce
Maybe even between Patrick & Kelce – personally

I’ll be watching the sidelines if Kelce/Patrick are talking on sidelines……while sitting inside Las Vegas Raiders stadium.

And yet Sammy’s absence is regrettable. He had some good games, some at critical junctures, and while his availability was frustrating still he gave the Chiefs a semblance of WR2.

Alot of the problems from O yesterday are due to bad drops by players. Bad drops ones that hit them in both hands at the same time. Also, let’s not try and think the third-string RT is any good either.

NovaChiefs
11/08/2021 9:37 am

Remember…
We played that game on a short week against a team coming off a mini-bye.
We played possibly the top team in the NFC. They didn’t get there JUST because of AR
We played not some journeyman backup, we played the guy they picked to be their future
So, all considered, I thought we did ok. The O still is badly out of sorts, but the D and ST seem to have settled in a bit.
I will happily take this result over, say, coming off a bye week, playing possibly the worst team in the NFC East who are playing on a short week, and getting popped like, I dunno, the raiders?

The morning after a Chiefs win:

Here’s a thought. Our RB room isn’t getting it done either. Some of that is not wanting to call running plays and I get that. But, we also have a WR problem in that we don’t have a true #2 with neither DRob, Pringle, Hardman or Gordon showing much.

So, why not try to kill 2 birds with 1 stone? What if we moved Hardman to RB? He could be the lightning, and then draft a bruiser RB to be the thunder?

not sure I fully agree. A win helps the standings, but I sure would be feeling more confident in this team with a prettier loss than I do after that no show by the offense of a game.

“…latest strange result in their perplexing 5-4 season.”

That about sums it up. An encouraging win, to be sure, but something doesn’t seem right with the Chiefs. Faiders then Cowboys then the bye. I still do not think signing OBJ is a good move despite the absence of production depth at WR. Sometimes, barring late season moves, you just go with the guys you have.

Shout out for the defense, did they get there swagger back ?
Shout out for special teams, they were clearly the better unit on the field yesterday.
Shout out to covid, no doubt we would have lost that game if Rodgers played.
Shout ( at ) the offense WTF …besides the 1st drive we looked absolutely inept.

Andy’s strategy on offense, that worked pretty well let’s not do that again.

HUGE understatement – Next Sunday Night – HUGE game against the Raiders. The Chargers and Broncos face the Vikings and Eagles. Neither game is a gimme victory but I am sure that the Chargers and Broncos will be favored. We could find ourselves alone in first place or alone in last place after the game. Needless to say, there would be a huge difference in perspective after the game. Best case scenario – of course – would be the Chargers and Broncos losing with our offense coming alive against the Raiders and spanking them on national TV.

EAFOX
11/08/2021 6:05 am

The division is up for grabs with the Chargers and Raiders being a half a game up on the Broncos and Chiefs. Every team has at least four divisional games left – one would think that you have to win at least three of those to expect to be the division champ. The danger is if we fall short of the division – as these teams beat up on each other – do we slip out of contention for the wild card as we are currently sitting tied for the seventh and last seed.

EAFOX
11/08/2021 5:59 am

IF our offense finally clicks, we are right back to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender – the Bills, Ravens, and Titans are having their own issues. We have the entire second half of the season to get that right – just need to keep finding ways to win to get into the big dance.

EAFOX
11/08/2021 5:46 am

Since no other player has risen up and said I will be that next man – either thru below average performance or lack of opportunity – the coaching staff has to figure out how to utilize each person at their best and game plan with that. Hardman excels on jet sweeps so dial them up – IF the opponent shuts that down – McKinnon excels on swing passes – dial them up – IF the opponent shuts that down – we have a strong interior line so run up the middle and so forth. Seems that too often we run a great jet sweep and it is checked off our list and we are done running that play. We should run jet sweeps all day IF the defense is struggling to stop them. I will say that OBJ could be that third player we need.

The first step to improve is to loosen the reins on Mahomes. I still favor letting him call his own plays but, at the very least, let him perform some safe magic. I do not want to hang him out to dry but become more unpredictable on offense. Mahomes, Kelce, and Hill are the three best players out there and they all have shown the pressure of having to be perfect for the Chiefs to win. We need to take the pressure off of them.

Leaf
Reply to  EAFOX
11/08/2021 7:18 am

I’m not sure it’a a reins problem with Mahomes. Andy has always allowed his players personalities shine. For 3 years he didn’t try to rein in Mahomes. Why would he suddenly do it now? If there are restrictions on how Patrick is paying, I’d put money they are self placed and not by Andy.

EAFOX
11/08/2021 5:31 am

The offense will come under fire – and rightfully so – and Mahomes will receive the brunt of the criticism. I liked how I said it last night – Mahomes has lost his swagger, not his talent. The offense is out of sync and he is part of that – I repeat what I have said quite often – He seems stuck trying to be the good soldier who operates in the pocket when he wants to be more the magic man who does the impossible. The level of frustration is obvious when the in the pocket Patrick offense looks stale. This part is not on Patrick – his receivers are not getting open or are making drops and such. His confidence in sitting back there is low due to the pounding he has taken in previous games. The running game has not been a consistent factor and the success of the coaching calls has been erratic. Mahomes’ reaction to the first down pass to Tyreek as he improvised showcases the level of frustration that he has been under.

upamtn
Reply to  EAFOX

oh, then it ISN’T the WR’s … it’s Mahomes

which means OBJ is NOT the answer after all (he isn’t, but you implied it above)

Kudos to the special teams this week – we made several plays that impacted the game here. Our return game still sucks but our coverage units made their money yesterday.

EAFOX
11/08/2021 5:16 am

First the defense – great job all around – my biggest takeaway is that the front four finally put some pressure on. This is the first hope that I have had all year for them. The presence of Ingram allowed Chris Jones to move back inside and Clark has had a good game three weeks in a row. I still disagree with seeing more Okafor and less Danna but I can deal with that right now. Will be interested to see how the snap count continues for Bolton, Gay, and Hitch. Back end played well save that one play but I am even going to give Dirty Dan a pass. He is out there busting his butt. I am sure that I will roast him later. Great job defense.

The time to give Sorenson a pass was during the SB year when he was actually contributing splash plays that (sort of) offset the game-destroying plays that he gives up. Now, rather than being a net-zero player, he’s a liability that would have cost us the game if Love had been just a little bit better on a couple of his throws. No more passes from me. Cut him, and cut him yesterday.
