Good morning AG!

Chiefs Win 23-20

… to be fair, it was a game they had no business winning, and if not for a serendipitously timed fumble recovery by one Tershawn Wharton, they might not have … that and one Isiah Pacheco who WAS the offense

a win is a win?  so they say, but the Jets can claim a “moral victory” and move on:  helluva defense and Wilson looked like a real QB 2nd Half

Zach Wilson plays well, Jets fight to come back and it’s still not enough to beat Chiefs | yahoo!sports

Zach Wilson had some promising moments in what might have been the best game of his career. The New York Jets had a fantastic effort against the Kansas City Chiefs, keeping a Sunday night audience engaged until the end.

But at the end of the night, it was just another loss for the Jets. They’re 1-3 after losing 23-20 to the Chiefs. All of the positives are fine, and every single thing Wilson did well was met with a mountain of praise on the broadcast. Perhaps it was a turning point and the Jets will start winning games against competition that isn’t as good as the reigning Super Bowl champs.

tis truly the Golden Age of Football in Kansas City, enjoy it while it lasts, my friends

What we learned from Chiefs’ 23-20 win vs. New York Jets (with Taylor Swift there) | news dot yahoo dot com

The Kansas City Chiefs survived a scare off Broadway.

Patrick Mahomes engineered an 80-yard field goal drive in the fourth quarter to break a tie, and the Chiefs offense later milked the clock on an extended possession to ice it in a 23-20 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium.

The game had plenty of celebrity fanfare. Taylor Swift attended in a luxury suite for the second straight week, while other stars spotted at the game included Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and Paul Rudd.

Jets not happy with questionable penalty call that turned the game late in 23-20 loss to Chiefs | ap news via yahoo!sports

A livid Robert Saleh stormed down the sideline, shouting at an official as several New York Jets players jumped around on the field in disbelief.

Frustrated fans booed in disgust, knowing the game just turned on a questionable call.

With the Kansas City Chiefs up by three points and looking to put away a win Sunday night, Michael Carter II intercepted Patrick Mahomes’ deep pass intended for Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Jets, who erased a 17-0 deficit, thought they had a chance to tie or win — until they didn’t.

… did we mention Isiah Pacheco?

Patrick Mahomes overcomes uncharacteristic night to propel Chiefs to close win vs. Jets | usa today

Patrick Mahomes, admittedly, doesn’t look like a gazelle while running. But don’t take that to mean he’s slow.

“I move a little better than people think,” Mahomes said following the Kansas City Chiefs’ 23-20 victory over the New York Jets on “Sunday Night Football.”

Instead of his arm being the weapon of choice, Mahomes used his legs to seal the win, first by converting a third-and-23 in the closing minutes by rushing for 25 up a cavernous middle of the field (an illegal contact call would have made it an automatic first down anyway). Later in the drive, he scrambled once more and slid at the 2-yard line rather than scoring a touchdown.

His decision allowed the Chiefs to bleed what remained on the clock, and the Jets did not touch the football following quarterback Zach Wilson’s fumbled snap with 7:24 remaining.

*** Ed Note:  BIGGEST WINNER?  Donna Kelce:  she was at and won TWO games

Donna Kelce doubleheader: NFL mom to attend son Travis’ game with Taylor Swift after cheering on Jason at Eagles win | sporting news

The NFL’s most famous mom is galivanting across the Eastern seaboard. And she’s bringing quite the entourage with her.

Kelce was spotted in the owner’s box watching eldest son Jason pave tunnels for the Eagles’ explosive run game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon. She watched on in delight as Philadelphia snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, beating an upstart Commanders squad 34-31 in overtime.

… as we said:  it was ugly and the Jets got a nice moral victory

Today’s a good day. Morning after a Chiefs win, my daughter was born healthy and strong at 10:50 Arrowhead time.

While we are talking about questionable calls. I haven’t seen any outrage about the 15-yard horse caller, or the borderline safety call.

usually the most outrage on bad calls is when your team loses.. they were discussed last night though.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched them doing it. reminded me of the super bowl a while back…

I can (and will) complain about the refs. They were bad with abysmal calls for both sides so I am not claiming bias. Just incompetence.

Our play calling is still crap outside of Reid’s first pre-planned 15 plays.

Maybe we can get him to script the entire game

I think our execution of our play calling was a bigger problem.

Actually, Wilson looked like a real QB for a quarter and a drive. After they tied the score, he wasn’t effective.
Not sure why the Chiefs didn’t deserve to win. They scored more points, overcame some very sloppy QB play, and the defense only allowed 18 points. Everybody played hard. Several guys simply refused to get stopped when they had the ball. I can think of two times they got 6+ extra yards out of the effort. WR drops seem to be greatly improved. At the end of the game, everyone was playing smart and disciplined.
What did I miss?

Oh, and they dominated play in the first quarter, and kept the ball for the final 6+ min.
Seriously, realistic is one thing. Glass half empty is another.

1st: Chiefs
2nd: Jets
3rd: Leaning Jets based on one drive, but basically a wash
4th: Chiefs based on holding the back better than 50% of it and doing what needed to be done

Umm wr drops are still a thing. Rice dropped an easy first down throw on 2nd down near the red zone. Couldn’t covert on 3rd down. Fg instead of possibly 7 in the 4th.

Not a wr but kelce had what turned out to be a crucial drop. Cost us 2 pts. And essentially a turnover. Jets kicked fg on next drive.

I’d actually say drops are why this was close and not a blow out.

One drop is not “a thing”. He’s still a first year player. It happens.
The shitshow in the first game was “a thing”

Drops are a thing for Rice. It’s his one glaring flaw.

Yes, I know he’s had a history of them. That made me queasy when we took him

It’s kind of like an error in baseball. In a vacuum they’re typically not a big deal, and sometimes the next play is a double play and no harm no foul. I think we had two drops in that game where it went the other way. The error turned into a base hit, turned into not getting off the field and the other team turned the game around.

The turning point of that game was the safety.

That safety was set up by a bad special teams flag on a fair catch, a drop by kelce, and an egregious hold by Taylor. Snowballed on us. They got 2. Then 3 on the ensuing posseion, all of a sudden moment swung. Mahomes pick….

You are both absolutely correct and over stating it.
Good teams find a way to turn the double play after the error, and mostly we can. Last night, we weren’t a “good” team, but we were the “better” team and managed to survive the double after the error.
My point is still that, while it wasn’t pretty, saying we didn’t “deserve” to win is over the top.

Don’t get me wrong. We were the better team and deserved to win. I think we clean up some stupid mistakes and we win like we should have 34-12.

If the Chiefs lost, they would not have deserved to win, so yes, I probably would be saying things different. But they didn’t.
The Jets got curbstomped in the 1stQ. They were not “just as good”.
They were actually better than us in the 2nd and first drive of the 3rd. Much better.
After that first drive, they played us even until 7min to go. Then they made a mistake and, unlike us, could not recover from it. The “better” team does recover. Guess which one did?
They played well, they played hard.
Luck? Where? On a call where the defensive guy was crawling all over our WR? It maybe wasn’t holding, but it was illegal contact, at least. Or maybe when the safety was called despite clearly being a wrong call? That was really lucky for us. The horse collar call. That was the lucky one, I’ll bet.
Between the two teams on the field, we were the better team and deserved to win. Better teams overcome not being perfect. When they do that, they deserve to win.
Again, being a realist I understand and agree with. This wasn’t one I’m going to go have kids so I can tell them about it. We won, and let’s just keep moving. I’m not going to be overly pessimistic, either. I’m not embarrassed by this win. They could have folded when the Jets tied it. Didn’t. Don’t get the angst.

Another point on discipline. Stupid penalties. That safety was not only set up by a kelce drop but also a block in the back on a fair catch.

Not to mention some of the oline flags.

There were times I wondered if all the Jets defense had to do was wait for us to shoot ourselves in the foot.
