Good morning, AG!

Today in Chiefs history, Pellom McDaniels born in 1968.

Some other stuff may have happened. In 1848, The Communist Manifesto, written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, was first published; the pamphlet became hugely influential.

American Lucy Hobbs Taylor became the first woman to earn a doctorate in dentistry in 1866.

The Washington Monument was dedicated on the grounds of the Mall in Washington, D.C., in 1885.

In 1916, The Battle of Verdun, one of the most devastating engagements of World War I, began.

The American weekly magazine The New Yorker began publication under Harold W. Ross in 1926.

Malcolm X, who articulated concepts of racial pride and black nationalism in the United States, was assassinated this day in 1965 and became an ideological hero after the posthumous release of The Autobiography of Malcolm X.

In 1972, U.S. President Richard M. Nixon paid a state visit to the People’s Republic of China, ending a 21-year estrangement between the communist country and the United States.

The news.

Kansas City Chiefs Expected To Cut Super Bowl Hero Due To Cap Space Concerns | Gridiron Heroics

The Kansas City Chiefs come into the offseason needing to move some money around this offseason to keep their core group of players intact in their bid to complete a threepeat in the 2024 season. A hero from the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers is a likely cut.

Trent McDuffie earned fourth-best PFF grade among CBs in 2023 | Chiefs Wire

While McDuffie’s outstanding play last year was a sight to behold, it can be difficult for fans to contextualize just how dominant he was, especially given that he didn’t manage to snag an interception during the Chiefs’ 2023 campaign.

NFL recognizes Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s remarkable 2023 redemption story | Chiefs Wire

49ers-Chiefs Super Bowl overtime decision: Did Kyle Shanahan blow it? | ESPN

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39541332/49ers-chiefs-super-bowl-2024-decision-coin-toss-kyle-shanahan-mistake

I thought I was done with Super Bowl LVIII, but one conversation that keeps happening has pulled me back in. I touched on San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan’s decision to take the ball first in overtime in my recap column last Monday, but after stories broke that some 49ers players didn’t know the rules and video was released of the Chiefs celebrating Shanahan’s decision on the sideline, it has turned into a much bigger story.

When I wrote about the game — which ended with the Chiefs scoring a touchdown on the second possession of overtime — I suspected the conversation Monday morning would work on finding a scapegoat for what had gone wrong. Given Shanahan’s issues in losing two prior Super Bowls, he was the most likely target, with many conflating several 49ers players not knowing the new overtime rules to Shanahan himself not understanding the options available.

Chiefs’ Harrison Butker answers request, sends jersey to family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan for burial | Yahoo Sports

https://sports.yahoo.com/chiefs-harrison-butker-answers-request-sends-jersey-to-family-of-lisa-lopez-galvan-for-burial-155614772.html

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker came through for the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the mom of two who was killed in last week’s shooting during the team’s Super Bowl parade.

A now-deleted request was posted on X asking for help in finding a white Butker Chiefs jersey — the same kind Lopez-Galvan wore to the parade. According to the Kansas City Star, a representative of Fanatics as well as a friend of the team’s chaplain, Father Richard Rocha, both saw the request.

From Butker’s perspective, that has to be both a great honor and also a little weird knowing that someone is buried in your jersey.

so, some huge satellite is supposed to fall from the sky today or tomorrow or soon enough (it’s ONLY about 5,000 lbs) but the space around Earth just seems to get more and more crowded

seems there’s a website devoted to tracking all of the “space junk” and there are “guesstimates” that it’s only going to get worse, as in “much worse”

what would that look like?

This is what 100 million pieces of space debris looks like

My question is, has the internet made humanity the way it is now, or was humanity always this bad and the Internet just gave us 24/7 access to it?

The latter.
There have always been loons who would believe anything and that everything was part of a “plot” to cover up something. Pre-internet, they were scattered and could only meet in small groups, so the damage was minimal. Borderline loons were kept in check by the fact that they really didn’t know others as crazy as them, so their loony side didn’t get fed the nonsense it needs to thrive.
Now, all bets are off since they can not only easily reach others who fall for their nonsense, but the easily swayed pre-loons are not given a chance to develop the ability to think critically before being exposed to conspiracy theories that “explain everything” if you just “do the research”.
Since you asked…

The internet connects people from all over the world. When they find birds of their own feather, they will flock together. These groups then become an echo chamber of their own views and since they have others believing the same things, it only strengthens their views.

I see it all over the place.

so, Purdue was #1 in NCAA BB for a week, but then they got knocked off, leaving room for UConn at the top of the heap … that lasted all of a day as Creighton upset the Huskies

that’s one thing I like about College BB: you just never know sometimes, and even small schools can field a good team that can beat almost any other team (March Madness rocks) … unlike NCAA Football where Alabama, Michigan, Texas and the “Big Name Big Schools” are always at the top

Transfer portal has really changed college basketball too. Theres almost no incentive to recruit and work with freshmen anymore, since theyll likely just leave in a year anyway.

Just stats – don’t get your panties wet.

Average length of #15 TD passes per year:

  • 2019: 17.3 yards | SB champs | T. Hill with Chiefs
  • 2020: 13 yards | T. Hill with Chiefs
  • 2021: 8.5 yards | T. Hill with Chiefs
  • 2022: 4.5 yards | SB champs
  • 2023: 3.9 yards | SB champs

The last 2 years, #15 has thrown a total of 2 TD which traveled 20+ yards in the air

Mostly that’s probably a product of the YAC the receivers are capable of getting and their breakaway speed

I don’t care if he gets down to nothing but handoffs for TDs.
I don’t care if he never throws another TD in his life.
As long as the season ends with holding up the Lombardi and standing on a confetti covers stage, I’m happy.

Seems strange because I felt we sucked in the red zone most of the season. I guess the lack of really long TDs brings the average down a lot.

There are a couple of trolls on Twitter splashing this stat about like it means something bad. It reminds me of a stat some point in 2018, his first season starting, that showed that his passes had the widest windows of any QB in the league. Patrick responded by saying that it looked like he was choosing the right receivers. I think it says more about our receivers, and as stated below, how teams are playing against the Chiefs and the league in general. Look at how much the yards dropped with Tyreek. The NFL makes adjustments. The key is adapting to it.

Id put him at best as the 8th best qb behind pat, allen, burrow, lamar, herbert, rodgers, and hurts. Id listen to arguements that stafford, tua, stroud, and purdy are better than him too. Ive got guys like lawerence, goff and watson in the next group down.

Giving him that kind of contract is just dumb. Good for the cowboys.
