Morning Huddle – Don’t Look Now, It’s October
2 repliesGood morning Chiefs Kingdom! Grab yourself a cup o’ Joe and get in the Huddle!
Chiefs news for October 3, 2026
بِسْمِ ٱلأبِ وَٱلإِبْنِ وَٱلرُّوحِ ٱلقُدُسِ ٱلإلَهِ ٱلوَاحِدِ ٱلأَوْحَدِ آمِين
Good morning AG!
Today in Chiefs’ history:
Hank Stram and Buffalo Bills coach Joe Collier negotiate a trade in the middle of the field, with the Chiefs trading a 5th-round pick for kicker Mike Mercer, on this date in 1966.
Some other stuff may have happened:
In 1862, the Battle of Corinth began. A major conflict in the American Civil War which took place in northeastern Mississippi, the battle would end in a major Union victory.
Also during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proposed – on this date in 1863 – a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise,” which would ultimately be observed on the final Thursday of November. (Now it is simply viewed as “that annoyance before Black Friday” or “that time off work between Halloween and Christmas.”)
In 1936, John Heisman passed away in New York. Heisman, for whom the Heisman Trophy is named, was considered one of the greatest innovators of the game of football.
In 1945, the May-Johnson Bill was introduced into the US Congress. The bill, which focused on keeping atomic research a secret and establishing security regulations around the nuclear research program, never became law, but it did result in the passage of the Atomic Energy Act the following year.
In 1960, everyone was reminded how annoying whistling is when The Andy Griffith Show made its premiere on CBS; in 1961 CBS premiered The Dick Van Dyke Show, which also was a major success for the network.
In 1990, the countries formerly known as East and West Germany were reunified into (you guessed it) Germany after Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to a unified Germany within NATO.
In 1995, “If the glove fits, you must acquit” entered the American lexicon when the O.J. Simpson murder trial ended with a verdict of not guilty.
The news.

Jordan Poyer Gets Honest on Tyreek Hill’s Vague Hint for Next NFL Destination | Gridiron Heroics
Tyreek Hill’s former Miami Dolphins teammate Jordan Poyer has dismissed Hill’s last post on TwXtter, which stated that Hill is “ready for some cold weather.” Hill has been posting cryptic nonsense on TwXtter, insinuating that he is ready to return to the league after a horrific knee injury sidelined him.
Chiefs Reveal Potential Change in Plans for Returning Defender | Roundtable.io
On the injury front, the Chiefs are closer to getting Chamarri Conner back to playing. While he will still be a defensive back, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo stated that the team could make use of Conner at both safety and nickel corner.
The potential switch comes as Jaden Hicks and Alohi Gilman have held down the safety position while Conner has been sidelined with a knee injury. Notably, for the first several years of Gilman’s career, he rotated between safety and nickel corner, so this would be nothing new for him. The team did plan to initially use Conner as a safety in 2026.
Conner was a full participant in team practice on Wednesday and Thursday, though it’s uncertain whether he will suit up for this game or the next.
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Bringing “Ridiculous” Indoor Record to Las Vegas on Sunday | Roundtable.io
Patrick Mahomes “has been nearly unbeatable when playing indoors,” said Arrowhead Addict writer Leigh Oleszczak. “He’s 16-2 when playing indoors, while tossing 43 touchdowns to just six interceptions and averaging 316 yards per game.” 16-2. For those of us who aren’t math magicians, that adds up to a .889 winning percentage.
But that isn’t the most mind-boggling statistic out of this. The team won the first fifteen (!) indoor games that Mahomes started, dating back to a 34-30 victory against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
Two of those most famous wins, fans will recall, came when the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, and the following year when they escaped Allegiant Stadium 25-22 in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Now that’s more like it.
Chiefs fans have been treated to what we’re used to now – the Mahomes-led Chiefs doing Mahomes-led Chiefs things and dominating their opponents on the field. They are once again firmly ensconced in the upper echelons of the NFL.
And if there was any doubt about Mahomes’s knee, let his statistics through the first quarter of the season disquiet critics of the notion that he’s not the same SBMVPMII: he has thrown for 812 yards and seven touchdowns to two interceptions, adding a score on the ground as well.
Speaking of the ground game – Kenneth Walker III, who leads the league in rushing headed into Week 4 – has added another dimension to the offense by giving Chiefs fans something seldom seen since Jamaal Charles left: rushing production.
Chiefs Could Compete with 49ers, Raiders in Trade Talks for Jaguars Pro Bowl WR | Sporting News
Brian Thomas Jr. could be headed toward greener football fields. The Chiefs are looking for a difference-maker at the wide receiver position, and Thomas – the Jaguars’ first-round draft pick in 2024 – isn’t a very effective part of the Jaguars’ offense thus far, and a trade would make sense for the team.
That should be everything, Chiefs fans! Enjoy your weekend, and may your college teams all win today – unless one of those teams is Ohio State, in which case, may the Buckeyes be roundly defeated in spectacular and humiliating fashion.
Don’t forget, you can catch Mitch Holthus and Danan Hughes – the best in the business – on the Chiefs Radio Network come game day. Unless you’re one of those people who prefers lackluster, schlocky TV commentary of course…
And as always, go Chiefs!

Nothing’s gonna silence my beliefs, I won’t apologize. I won’t apologize! I! WON’T! APOLOGIZE!
All of your bricks didn’t build it, and none of your doubts ever break it.
