Good morning AG!

Today in Chiefs history:  not a thing, check back tomorrow
Today in Other history:
In 2013, Taylor Swift was named entertainer of the year for the second year in a row at the Academy of Country Music Awards;  exactly 10 years later she would be named MVP of the Kansas City Chiefs
In 1998, Burger King rolled out their  “Left-Handed Whopper” (much easier to eat for some)
In 1996, Taco Bell announced it had agreed to purchase Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell and intended to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell (sadly, the deal fell thru when the bell failed a team physical)
In 1992, National Public Radio ran a spot with former President Richard Nixon saying he was running for president again (spoiler alert:  he lost)
In 1985, Sports Illustrated writer George Plimpton ran an article about a rookie pitcher named Sidd Finch who could throw a fastball over 168 mph (see:  Niekro, 1939)
In a 1970 story, John Lennon and Yoko Ono announce they are having dual sex change operations (to this day no one knows if it actually happened)
1969 Seattle Pilots trade little-known minor league outfielder Lou Piniella to KC Royals for 2 prospects; hits .282 with 11 HRs & 68 RBI to win AL Rookie of the Year (who in 1973 was traded to the NY Yankees for a Large Pepperoni Pizza)
1957 the BBC reported that Swiss farmers were experiencing a record spaghetti crop after a mild winter and “virtual disappearance of the spaghetti weevil” and showed footage of people harvesting noodles from trees
1939 American Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro (knuckleballer; no-hitter 1973; 5 x MLB All Star; 5 x Gold Glove; Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves), born in Blaine, Ohio (his knuckleball averaged exactly 16.8 mph; see Finch, 1985)
1927 Amos Milburn, American R&B singer and pianist (“One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer”), born in Houston, Texas (and George Thorogood has been grateful ever since)
1857 Herman Melville publishes the novel “The Confidence-Man: His Masquerade”
And finally, in 1857, Albert Smith printed and distributed cards inviting people to the “annual ceremony of washing the lions” at The Tower of London (White Gate Entrance)

And now what may or may not be actual news …

Hoosierchief’s Purdue Boilermakers knocked off Tenn 72-66 and advance to the Final Four

***Ed Note:  unless you’ve been in an alternative, hermetically-sealed parallel universe for the last 24 hours, you MAY have heard about “The Rice Thing”

Kansas City Chiefs’ Rashee Rice suspected in connection with 6-vehicle crash in Dallas | Dallas Morning News

Police were searching for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice in connection with a major multivehicle accident Saturday evening in northeast Dallas, law enforcement officials confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.

Photos from crash suspected to involve Rashee Rice show racers fleeing scene| NY Post

Photos of the car accident that is suspected to involve Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice show occupants of the two vehicles that caused the crash fleeing the scary scene.

The photos, obtained by TMZ Sports, show a group of men who emerged from a Lamborghini and a Corvette that were racing before the crash walk away along the side of the North Central Expressway Saturday evening in Dallas, as first responders tend to the victims whose cars were banged up, witnesses told the website.

While it’s unclear if Rice, 23, is among the group of men in the photos, the Dallas Morning News reported that police suspect Rice was the driver of the Corvette; police are searching for Rice.

***Ed Note:  he may not be wrong …

Guard Nick Allegretti says he came to Commanders to ‘be a starter in Week 1’ | NFL

After spending five seasons with the Chiefs, guard Nick Allegretti found a new home, signing a deal with the Commanders.

However, even after all that time with Kansas City, Allegretti did not get that many chances to be a part of the starting offensive line. Now, he gets the chance to compete.

Kansas City Chiefs aiming to re-sign free agent DE Mike Danna ahead of 2024 NFL draft | A to Z Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to bring back one of their free agent defenders ahead of the 2024 NFL draft.

A source confirms to A to Z Sports that the Chiefs are attempting to re-sign DE Mike Danna, who remains a free agent after first becoming one in mid-March at the start of the new league year. I’m told that a deal could be agreed upon as early as the first week of April. 610 Sports’ Bob Fescoe first reported on March 29 that the team was working to bring back Danna.

He was having a shitload of fun tho. And I don’t blame him. The problem is you’re a world class athlete not a world class driver. Also you’re putting others at risk. Shit rent a race track for an hr if u wanna crash your vette

Its been quite a year for me – first the Chiefs win the super bowl, now the Boilers make it to the final 4. And here on April fools day, I have to wonder if its real!

Seems like everyone and their brother are trying to keep you from the fish. Looks like its going to be partly cloudy here for that day. not that I really care that much. we have schools here closing for that day because they are worried about the liability of kids hurting their eyes on school grounds.

I ended up punting (to keep some football in this site) on Arkansas to see it. Several places were calling for 80%+ cloud cover where I was thinking about. Too far and too expensive for that chance. Going instead to Lenny the Cool’s hometown, Alliance, Oh. Going to go to Canton while I’m in the area and see the HoF, finally. Going to ask to see the Otis Taylor exhibit. I’ll wear my Dawson jersey around town. Hoping his spirit will keep the skies at least partly cloudy.

It sounds like its supposed to pass through our area here as well, Through Indy. I’ve heard they are doing someone at the 500 track there for people to watch it. It would be decent in my area, around Ft Wayne, but just north of the ideal track

If you are close to totality, and you have never seen a TOTAL eclipse, please go see it. It is simply the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced (outside of the Super Bowl wins, of course). It’s 4 min of something you can’t describe. 99% ain’t enough. Gotta be 100%. 99% is like Ordering a very nice meal and the food is really good. 100% is like ordering a nice meal, everything is perfect, and someone else pays for it.

He’s right. The penumbra is amazing but total eclipse is breathtaking
