Morning Huddle – Don’t Look Now, it’s Meteorological Fall, but the Temperatures Would Have You Think Otherwise
4 repliesGood morning Chiefs Kingdom! Grab yourself a cup o’ Joe and get in the Huddle!
Chiefs news for September 5, 2026
بِسْمِ ٱلأبِ وَٱلإِبْنِ وَٱلرُّوحِ ٱلقُدُسِ ٱلإلَهِ ٱلوَاحِدِ ٱلأَوْحَدِ آمِين
Good morning AG!
Today in Chiefs’ history:
Joe Montana (part of a bizarre Chiefs-49ers quarterback connection partially mentioned in this video) and Marcus Allen make their Kansas City Chiefs debuts in the 1993 season opener at Tampa Stadium; the Chiefs would win that game 27-3, posting an 11-5 record.
Some other stuff may have happened:
In 1793, during the French Revolution, nobles, priests, hoarders, and “those suspected of being enemies of the Revolution” were dealt with harshly during the Reign of Terror; a wave of executions would follow in Paris.
In 1836, Sam Houston was elected president of the Republic of Texas.
In 1960, American boxer Cassius Clay (later Muhammad Ali) won the gold medal in the 175-lb division at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He then embarked on a professional career which saw him become one of the most legendary competitors in boxing.
Twelve years later, during the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, Palestinian terrorists attacked Olympic Village, taking hostages and eventually killing 11 members of the Israeli team.
In 1975, there was an attempted assassination against US President Gerald Ford; the would-be assassin, Lynette (“Squeaky”) Fromme, was a follower of Charles Manson who was sentenced to life in prison for the attempted murder. Fromme would be released from prison in 2009.
In 1976, the first episode of “The Muppet Show” aired; the show, co-created by Jim Henson, became hugely popular, known not only for the likes of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, but a dizzying array of guest stars.
In 1997, Mother Teresa died at age 87 in Calcutta (Kolkata), India; Mother Teresa had won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize for her charitable work with impoverished people, especially in India.
Tuvalu, a coral archipelago in the west-central Pacific whose population numbers approximately 10,000, became the 189th member of the United Nations on this date in 2000.
In 2001, at a scientific conference in Washington, D.C., scientists described an observation of energy flares that provided strong evidence of the theorized black hole at the center of the Milky Way.
(Lots of Rush today, but that’s coincidental I suppose.)
The news.

Cyrus Allen Receives Unbelievable Praise Ahead of Rookie Season | ArrowheadAddict.com
Nate Taylor, who works the Chiefs beat for ESPN, recently appeared on “That Football Show” (not to be confused with “That 70s Show”) with Matt Verderame with nothing but good things to say about rookie Cyrus Allen.
“I have reason to believe that [the Chiefs’] best receiver is 13,” Taylor said. “He’s the one I have the most confidence in growth starting Week 1. […] I’ve been doing this for nine years.”
Not bad considering Allen went on day three of the draft. If Cyrus Allen does lead the pack of Chiefs wide receivers, Patrick Mahomes may have a lethal weapon not seen since Tyreek Hill.
To paraphrase (and with apologies to) the great Seth (MNChiefsFan) an obscenely long time ago over at the Abandoned Place, “MOAR CYRUS ALLEN!”
Patrick Mahomes Says His Knee Has Responded “The Right Way”| Heavy.com
According to a post on TwXtter, Mahomes is expected to get the nod at the Chiefs’ opening-day tilt against Denver on a Monday night at the Sacred Acre of Arrowhead. Despite the team not playing Mahomes during the preseason, his offseason workload led observers to believe that his repaired knee is fully functional; Mahomes did not have to schedule any time off to rehab his knee, and was able to scramble during 11-on-11 events at camp as well as demonstrate footwork in the pocket.
“The more we practice, the better I feel,” Mahomes said.
Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Reveals Patrick Mahomes Health Played Factor in His Return to Kansas City |
“I could see the determination,” Travis Kelce said of Mahomes. “I could see the frustration in his mind that it got to the point [last] year. And you know, that was – that’s a huge reason why I’m still playing the game because I know that guy.” That grit is what should put the league on notice – because the league’s best duo, Mahomes and Kelce, are back in action. Both have a big impact on one another and have an undeniable rapport.
The Chiefs’ Calm on Josh Simmons is Telling You Something | ArrowheadAddict
https://arrowheadaddict.com/the-chiefs-calm-on-josh-simmons-is-telling-you-something
Josh Simmons has not suited up since August 18, having missed playing in any preseason games as well as missing practices. Coach Andy Reid has said that a back injury Simmons sustained was “a temporary concern.”
Notably, Josh Simmons missed a good chunk of 2025 for unspecified reasons (injury plus probably other things) and was out for a significant chunk of his senior year at the collegiate level. This ongoing absence has become frustrating for fans, particularly as the Chiefs edge closer to the season opener – an AFC West showdown against Denver.
Notably, however, Simmons is not on IR – so the front office seem to think that he will be back sooner rather than later.
Mason Thomas Has a Chance to Reignite a Dismal Chiefs Sack Attack | KCKingdom
Defense wins championships, and a good defense starts in the trenches. The Chiefs have not had a strong pass rush for the last several years.
Enter rookie Mason Thomas, from Oklahoma, who finished his final season as a Sooner with 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss – this while missing a significant part of the season due to injury. Thomas’s unique blend of speed and ability to bend around the edge may be the missing piece that gives Spagnuolo what he needs to fuel another Super Bowl run. Between Thomas and rookie Peter Woods, the Chiefs’ front four should cause many opposing offensive coordinators no shortage of fits and sleepless nights.

Kansas City Chiefs’ WR Group Ranking Doesn’t Bode Well for Patrick Mahomes | Gridiron Heroics
According to CBS Sports’s Jared Dubin (who?), “the Chiefs might be counting on training-camp star Cyrus Allen to be a real factor, rather than a mere curiosity. That’s a dangerous game to play.”
That should be everything, Chiefs fans! Enjoy your weekend, and may your college teams all win today – unless one of those teams is Ohio State, in which case, may the Buckeyes be roundly defeated in spectacular and humiliating fashion.
Don’t forget, you can catch Mitch Holthus and Danan Hughes – the best in the business – on the Chiefs Radio Network come game day. Unless you’re one of those people who prefers lackluster, schlocky TV commentary of course…
And as always, go Chiefs!

Morning Bowl of (T)Weeties:
Nothing’s gonna silence my beliefs, I won’t apologize. I won’t apologize! I! WON’T! APOLOGIZE!
All of your bricks didn’t build it, and none of your doubts ever break it.
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا يَهْوَهُ وَلَا مَلِكُ إِلَّا يَسُوْعُ وَلَا سَيِّدُ إِلَا ٱلرُّوْحُ ٱلْقُدُّس

Strange that the Chiefs are favored against Denver, but all the talking heads say they are going to suck this year.
Great MH, Naz. Thanks! By the way “Lots of Rush”, is never a bad thing.
ditto, but I’m not a huge Rush fan. getting ready to try fishing this weekend.. everyone have a good weekend.
Have a great trip brother. See if there’s an extra lombardi in those waters.
