Monday Night Open Thread: Chiefs Make A Big Move To Start Free Agency

Most people didn’t expect the Chiefs to make a big move today, but they shocked the world by signing Jawaan Taylor to be the new left tackle. That’s shocking in part because Taylor mostly played right tackle in Jacksonville.
But free agency news will surely continue to trickle in over the next several days, so continue to check the pinned post for the latest news.
Has anybody seen him actually play LEFT tackle? He is supposed to play a slot he hasnt played at any level of the game that I can see. Hope they guessed right, thats a chunk of cap
read he did some spot duty in college

In honor of it being a month and a day since the Chiefs won their 3rd Super Bowl, lets look back at an article from abut 3 weeks ago and see how screwed up we were and how it’s amazing we did win.
“But none of those count as the biggest face-plant by the Chiefs when it comes to roster management. That honor goes to handing out one of the leagueโs biggest contracts to a kicker, Harrison Butker, who graded as one of the worst in the league in 2022. And Butker even helped to enable some questionable game management by Reid in the Super Bowl.”
There’s more, too. We suck, but we have Reid/Mahomes, so it’s ok.

Headin out – GO CHIEFS!!!!
How does Denver have all this money?
Broncos signed DE Zach Allen, formerly of the Cardinals, to a three-year, $47.8 million contract. The deal includes $32.5 million in guaranteed money
That’s like their 4th big signing today
I was getting ready to post the same thing
good
they can go deeper into cap space hell while the Chiefs run the table in the AFC West again
They cut a bunch of veterans. Chase Edmonds, Graham glasgow (G), and ronald Darby.
The Bengals and Bills both lost a key defensive piece – Edmunds and Bates were overpaid by the Bears and the Falcons.
Bengels lost both starting safeties
A good thing
Hope they sign Dirty Dan and play him deep
I swear
Former Chiefs are the hottest girls in the media bar…..
Royals looking awfully good in Spring Training, hope they stay hot when it’s for real
15-2 in the PS, 0-10 to start the year.
But I might be being a homer…
that’s pretty much their usual modus operandi …
Soon enough: Hoc Sugit
procul harum, ‘far from these things’
Big day for off ball LB’s
Best contract : Jimmy G 3 years 72 million. At absolute worst LV got a Derrick Carr clone for a fraction of what NO paid for him
just saw the Bears spent huge on ILB’s not named Roquan
Best non-Chiefs move? The worst?
Was Wylie worth 8 million dollars per year?
Hell no
Glad he got it but happier that we were not the ones that paid him.
I know it was not your question
But Taylor, could have been overpaid at 20 million per, but if he is going to be the LT then it might make it a great move
now Taylor is not a great run blocker, but is about the same as a pass blocker to Brown
we will see what unfolds
Love his youth and position flexibility – not sure how good the Jags offensive line was so his stats could have been influenced by a poorer line.
true and Brown inflated from a great line with a great coach
Mahomes. The answer is Mahomes.

” So Long ,and Thanks For All The Fish ! … ” … ; )
time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so,,,
Lotta money for that guy, not at all convinced he’s “worth” what they’re spending … we shall see
Isn’t that what he got paid last year?
I think it was only around 2.
The Athletic:
Undrafted in 2017, Wylie became a starter at guard in 2018, the same year Bieniemy began OC duties. He then shifted to right tackle in 2021 and started all 20 regular-season and playoff games for the Super Bowl champs in 2022 โ on a $2.5 million salary. Overall, Wylie has made 59 regular-season starts over the past five years.
Nothing really stood out as far as moves I would have wanted KC to match. I like the McLingtly contract more than Taylors deal. Keison Nixon was a guy I had an eye on entering today. He led the league in return yards . Still , 6 million for a pure return man is a little to steep for my liking. As far as moves I would like to see…..
Call Carolina and see what they want for Matt corall. They are apparently shopping him. WR’s I like: DJ Chark, Braxton Berrios, Parris Campbell, Olamide Zaccheaus all fit this offense. None should cost a ton. Plenty of solid edge guys still left out there. I would love a Leanord Floyd or a Yinnick Ngokwe on this team. I would like to add more OL depth. Terrence Steele was slapped with a 2nd round tender by Dallas. I would try and target him because you won’t find a OT of his ability in the second round this year
Nice breakdown – interesting thought about Steele
Mike Gesicki would be interesting in this offense as well. Based off of past production, it seems he was misused last year and may come on a cheaper deal because of it.
Iโd definitely have the medical team reviewing Campbellโs records. Might be the steal of the FA season
I thought I lost my connection to Chris Jones through a relative that worked for Joe’s KC
He took a new job at a Missouri side dispensary
all is well Chris jones trainer visits the dispensary ๐
Taylor’s deal seems to be cap friendly for this year – more moves coming?
that was why the Chiefs wanted to get Browns deal done, and it cost Frank Clark his roster spot
Yay Cowboys!
I wonder if Calais Campbell (down the road) is picked up to help the defensive line. That is one place that we do not shy away from someone due to age.
why does he continue to play
36 or older and he made 5 million last year
Because he spent 6M?
๐
Suggs, Dunlap – Campbell might want the same
he has played well
still waiting for the Chris Jones decision to come down
49ers agreed to terms with DT Javon Hargrave, formerly of the Eagles, on a four-year, $80 million contract. The deal includes $40 million guaranteed. It’s a king’s ransom for a 30-year-old who just closed out his three-year Eagles contract with a mammoth 11 sacks from the interior. Although he earned poor run marks from Pro Football Focus in Philadelphia, Hargrave was a genuine pass-rushing menace. He was also better against the run in Pittsburgh. As was the case in Philly, he will be surrounded by defensive talent
just set the market behind Donald
Don’t hold your breath. He’s still under contract. His agent is waiting to see where the market goes and the chiefs are waiting to see how much money they have left. There’s no hurry.
agree, but the sooner the better as he is in his final year under contract as of March 15
I like the Jawaan Taylor move. Would a 1 year Taylor Lewan move make sense?
If he’s cheap it’d make sense for him to be depth. Or maybe even have him start at LT and Taylor RT until he gets injured.
Thxโฆ

With Jessie Bates and Tremaine Edmunds off the board, just 7 of my top-20 free agents are still available:
LT Orlando Brown Jr.
CB Jamel Dean
CB James Bradberry
S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
WR Odell Beckham Jr.
Edge Marcus Davenport
WR Jakobi Meyers
James Bradberry could be instrumental
in helping Chiefs win another superbowl. He would even get a ring this time instead of a funny VD card
high character and smart, would be a good pickup … depending on price
Depending on price . . .
That’s the problem because he’s going to be expensive
which ones AREN’T expensive?
Field Yates
@FieldYates
The slowest-moving market so far in free agency has been at WR, as no WR has agreed to terms on a reported deal yet today.
The top options remain Odell Beckham, Jr., Jakobi Meyers, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Adam Thielen, DJ Clark and Allen Lazard.
