OK, we lost and it sucks, but how about we leave the blame game to the postgame thread, and spend our time here commiserating?

Of course, yer a buncha loudmouths who don’t listen to the theme thing too closely, but let’s avoid the negatives as best we can. Bad enough that we lost, without going after each other.

With that, time’s yours.

Damn……
Defense folded and collapsed when it mattered. Offense laid an egg for 30 minutes(again)

Yay!!!!! KC has “Special Teams” wins.

I like your thinking! More food for thought!…

Record when team scores at least 40 points:

Tom Brady 40-0
Peyton Manning 32-0
Steve Young 19-0
Jim Kelly 15-0
Philip Rivers 15-0
Joe Montana 14-0
Brett Favre 14-0
Roger Staubach 11-0
John Elway 9-0
Drew Brees 37-1
Aaron Rodgers 17-1

COMBINED 204-2

Patrick Mahomes 2-2

Poor Pat!

Clearly I am not saying that… This defense is legit. I agree the offense has to take part of the blame when your team loses 4 games in the regular season and you score an average of 37 points!

I’d argue that the 2 TD deficit was a direct result of the Patriots having two drives over 14 minutes long in the first half and rushing for almost 150 yards. If not for the poor brady decision in the endzone that led to the Ragland pick it could have been over at halftime. At least the offense stepped up in the 2nd half because the defense didn’t. They would have just kept running it down our throats!

things we don’t have to worry about going forward include Damien Williams is a good running and a decent receiving back for us, he might actually get some respect next season. When our dogs on the D-line don’t have enough time to get to the QB, our DBs get picked apart, you can blame that on whoever. This offense was good enough to carry a defense that is ran by a moron who can’t adjust. So, going into the offseason,
I hope we get some kind of overhaul to the defense. While Nelson’s not god awful, he gives up too many big plays against good QBs. the DBs giving up big plays are usually masked by Jones/Ford/Houston putting them in long down situations. When we can’t do that, calamity ensues.

I didn’t have a problem with Armani Watts when he played (in fact all of the draft picks this season outside of McKenzie were positives on the crap D.) Fuller I could take or leave, same goes for Ward and Lucas that while I like them I think there are plenty of other players that can do what they do but better. Sorenson is also just a player. You can’t know anything about EB. If I had it my way there would be like 5 position battles come training camp on the D, but maybe continuity is just better for this team, who knows.

There were PLENTY of plays that lost us the game. That one just hurts the most because it’s an unforced error that didn’t seem to affect the play and WE WOULD (most likely) BE TALKING ABOUT SUPER BOWL RIGHT NOW.

Yeah, I agree there were lots of plays that lost us the game, well in O.T specifically (obviously). But negating that INT with a minute left and a 4 pt lead sealed the deal. NE at best would have had to burn all their timeouts and score a 70 yard TD with like 40 seconds or less. Mahomes leading that game tying drive at the end to send it to OT was something special. So close, so close…

I mean it wasn’t so special when Pat got sacked out of field goal range, THAT ONE irks me and is why I must say that Mahomes was far from perfect, along with a subpar 1st half overall. Still wouldn’t take any other QB (not even one that sold his soul to the devil).

you can never be sure what his ceiling is, and as history shows, it’s damn hard to do better then 50 TDs. It was his first season, but he’s probably not gonna go out and throw for 65 TDs ever. He’s probably already at or near his physical peak.

now mentally, he will improve with his “nerves” and make some smarter throws, which WILL be dangerous 🙂

Statistically speaking, this probably will be his best season. I mean cmon, it was historical. He had a lot of things going for him this year; he was basically a rookie, and took the league by surprise. Teams were overwhelmed by Watkins, Hill, Hunt, Kelce. Kelce ain’t getting any younger, and once Pat gets his mega-deal we won’t ever have the talent on O that we do now, unless we nail it every year in the draft (and I am not so confident in Veach, tbh).

However, that being said, I think Pat does take us farther than the AFC game in the future. He’ll get better. He’ll overcome his nerves. And his defense will get better. Bob will be gone eventually, scheme will change. This year’s defense was historically bad. It isn’t always going to be this way.

Pat with an average offense is a SB winner. Even this O couldn’t salvage this season with this defense, unfortuntely.

#CB: I think Nelson signs elsewhere this offseason. Fuller and Ward will be starters next year, potentially joined by a draft pick.
#ILB: I hope they draft a flow ILB fairly early to take Hitchens place. Hitch can move over to take Ragland’s place as the “thumper” or 1-gap ILB.
#S: Another highly drafted rookie at safety beside a healthy EB would go a long way too.
#OL: and TE2 could be other priorities. I know they feel set at LT, RT & RG. LG is interesting. I think there is a battle between Erving, Wylie, and McKenzie for LG. Morse is probably gone. So we probably need a OC, even though Reiter played well in limited time.

The stunts and twists the Pats were doing reminded me a lot of what Georgia was doing to Baker Mayfield and OU from last year’s CFP semi-finals in the 3rd (?) quarter when they completely stalled them out. Those long drops combined with Hill and Kelce being blanketed made those twists get home too often for my liking. I thought Reid needed to make better adjustments by giving Mahomes easy short throws like slants, screens, and RPOs to get him in rhythm and keep the DL off him. Just my general thoughts on the offensive struggles.

Sorenson was above average and doesn’t deserve to be cut. Hitchens I could still live without. Can we just make Sherman our new ILB? I would enjoy him missing tackles a lot more. The defense all season was prone to let-down plays, hopefully we find somebody to plug in as a backup behind a veteran who better understands a playbook, but we’ll see what happens.

I understand your reasoning with the offense in the first half, yes, they played like crap.

But at this point it seems like your replying just to be argumentative. Like there is no semblance of common sense in your responses at all, you seemingly just want to deflect blame from where it belongs, the defense. The game was literally lost when Dee Ford lined up offsides. Then, if the defense managed to hold the Patriots at all in OT, the offense would have at least have had a chance.

It’s impossible to score 31 pts, have the defense give up 37 and over 500 yards of offense and still not lay blame where it is due. Are you trolling?

No, but if you offense gives your a team the lead and then you lose the game because the defense gives up points, that’s literally the definition of letting your team down.

They scored 37 points and had over 500 yards on offense. Jeez, 13/18 on third downs. That’s terrible.

Gotcha. Once the Chiefs got the lead the defense failed to make any stops, whatsoever. Yes, the offense was bad in the first half, but the defense was horrible the entire game. The fact that you seem to acknowledge what 99% of the world has accepted just boggles my mind, lol. And the whole reason I even bothered to reply is because you’ve posted about how we lost this game because the offense didn;t score in the first half, LIKE A DOZEN TIMES.

The offense played lights out the in the 2nd half, took the lead, and scored every time the defense shit the bed. Unfortuntely, the defense shit the bed last in OT and the offense wasnt even given an opportunity. So yes, offense played like shit in the first half, but played well enough to win (and should have) in the 2nd. Unfortuntely, the defense crapped the bed and lost the game.

I acknowledged the offense played poorly in the first half. But they stepped up when they had to and put the team in the position to win, multiple times. Sure, if the offense scored 40 pts we would have won, but no team should consistently have to score 40 pts a game to win. That’s shameful. ”

You know what’s undeniable. 99% of the people who watched the game agree that the defense cost us this game. Doesn’t prove I am smarter, just shows that most people saw what I saw. I am not making this personal, I am just confused as to why you are adamant on pushing the same narrative.

When did I say it was trivial?

But I am glad you are beginning to see another point of view. You went from saying it was the offenses fault for losing the game because they didn’t score in the first half, to, “the offense played a part in the Chiefs losing the game”. That’s quite a large concession on your part. Kudos. I can see your argument is becoming more flexible, so perhaps you really aren’t trolling and do believe your argument.

Unfortuntely, when your defense repeatedly gives up 4th quarter leads with ease, then fails to give up three consecutive 3 and 10’s in OT and lose, that’s totally on the defense.

There is an entire thread on reddit filled with confused people about how Romo called every play the Patriots ran in the 4th quarter and OT and yet our defense couldn’t see what he did. He’s a broadcaster. He was literally calling their plays beforehand. Yikes!

Let’s say the offense scored 14 points in the first half and 17 in the second, would this have changed your opinion? The Pats had 12+ minutes of possession in the first quarter. That Chiefs offense had one possession. Yes they failed to score there, but the defense limited the offenses opportunities to score by allowing NE to March down the fields on long drives
