So we’re coming up fast on Independence Day, which is traditionally about food, family, fun, and stuff that burns and explodes. So tonight I thought I’d have a little fun, myself. But first let me set the stage.
At fan-run science fiction conventions there’s a tradition we call “filking”, which is a music room for performances and sing-alongs. There’s original music and songs using the tunes from well-established songs, mostly traditional melodies, with new lyrics that follow SF or fantasy themes. The word “filk” was purely the result of a typo on a convention program which meant to say “folk music”. Naturally the word stuck, and here we are. There were a few well-known performers “on the circuit” over the years, and I’m going to introduce you to a trio of her original songs. She’s done more serious songs, but these three are strictly for fun. Just remember that Argo was a liberty port planet a la Star Trek:TOS and that there was plenty of people looking for love at these conventions. The last one needs no explanation. Let’s roll.
She’s also a good guitarist, and all three of these feature music written by her. Last I heard, she was trying to establish a breeding linage of cats based on nothing more than superior intelligence. A very interesting lady who I’ve met a time or three. I hope y’all check these out, cuz that’s all I got.
With that, time’s yours.
