Into The Afternight: Our 3rd Shift O/T
13 repliesIf you’re still up and want to talk Chiefs, or just hang with fellow citizens of the Kingdom, this is the place.
Eclectic mix tonight, but what the heck.
I just finished a little project before I started this. As some here are aware, I accumulate old coins, mostly pennies, and redistribute them to children, parental approval, etc. Well, I know a gal with a disabled son, wheelchair bound level, the poor kid. So I thought to give him a little gift, but something on the special side. I combed through my stash and picked out nice specimens going from ’60 to ’70, including multiple mint marks where I could. ’68 was the winner there, as I had three mints represented, plus a ’44 D as a showpiece, and in very nice condition, too. A nice little starter kit for coin collecting. What have y’all been up to?
With that, time’s yours.
While I agree with the general thrust of this, I am going to remind that for years, when the topic came up after the previous sanitize-all-team-names controversy that, once the dust had settled and the focus had moved on, DC ought to take the opportunity to change their name without a hint of pressure on them. Why? Because it was clearly a legitimate issue that wasn’t going away, and because there were some very legitimate options after retiring the Redskins brand. My preference was always for something like The Hawgz, as a call-back to the hogettes and friendly with a variety of logo options a tough, aggressive theme.
This would have short-circuited the SJWs by depriving them of an obvious point to use momentum to topple some dominos that they couldn’t tip on their own, because they weren’t nearly as blatant. Except for Chief Wahoo, but he could have been retired with little fanfare and without affecting the name. This follows the concept to a backfire set to restrict a forest fire, with a large side of psychological jiu-jitsu, since without anything to push against they’d likely have fallen on their faces, further discrediting the “movement”*. Since it did not happen, the SJWs have won another round, and are that much more motivated to sanitize whatever else is ever on their list.
Damn, I went BRaG-tastic again, but give me credit, it’s been a while. Doesn’t help that I have faced a very determined campaign to falsely portray me as a massive supporter of them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it came to light if all of the things he hates my guts over were based on his own deliberate misinterpretations of the things I said, in order to “win an argument” with me. Confirmation bias is as subtle as it is powerful. Anyway, here’s the clip.
The long log fire is a unique setup I’ve not seen. It looks like it would provide good warmth compared to a traditional campfire.
I have seen variations of this involving a feed ramp for the logs, and perhaps something similar to this in the fog of vague memory, but one thing both techniques have going for them is that they partially act as their own IR reflectors. Our ancestors knew how to build fires, so it’s no surprise that what wasn’t passed down has been replicated.
Then again, I regard the P-38 can opener to be the ultimate example of genius of design simplicity. You literally can’t get more simple than that while retaining size and cost benefits. It wasn’t designed to be the perfect can opener, but it was perfectly designed for its role, and it over-delivered on that promise.
been up to?
rage, shame and incredulity take all my time
Well I’m takin’ my time
I’m just moving along…
Then again, I’m not likely to be forgotten any time soon, should I depart. The only question will be in which light will I be remembered.
Hey, I plan to live forever or die trying. What about you?
