Chiefs Win: Recap Kansas City vs Miami.

3-0

The Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated after taking a road trip to South Florida and beating the Miami Dolphins definitively on the box score, but looking worrisome from the eye test of watching the game.

Recap:

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-10 at Hard Rock Stadium to improve to 3-0, while Miami dropped to 0-3.

Key Game Takeaways

  • Early Offensive Control: Kansas City scored touchdowns on its early possessions, establishing a decent lead before Miami’s defense stiffened and held them in check through the middle quarters.
  • Kenneth Walker III’s Impact: Walker led the Chiefs’ scoring effort with two touchdowns, one on the ground and one via a 5-yard flip from Patrick Mahomes. He finished with 18 carries for 70 rushing yards.
  • Mahomes & Kelce Seal It: Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He opened the game completing his first 12 passes. After Miami pulled within 14-10 in the third quarter, Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce on an 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:55 remaining to put the game away.
  • Rashee Rice Leading the Air Attack: Rice served as Mahomes’ primary target throughout the afternoon, leading Kansas City with seven receptions for 88 yards, including a 34-yard strike in the fourth quarter to set up the Kelce score.
  • Achane Injury Blow: Miami lost starting running back De’Von Achane to a knee injury on an 11-yard carry during the opening drive. With backup Jaylen Wright already inactive due to a stinger, rookie Ollie Gordon II stepped up and played tough in relief, punching in a 3-yard touchdown run to cap off a grueling 17-play, 91-yard drive.
  • Dolphins Under Center & Defensive Stands: Malik Willis went 20-for-36 for 210 yards with one interception and a lost fumble forced by L’Jarius Sneed, while leading Miami on the ground with 56 rushing yards. Miami’s defense hung tough in the first half with a goal-line fourth-down stop and a diving interception by rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, but the Dolphins turned the ball over on downs three times in Chiefs territory. George Karlaftis later picked off Willis with 2:03 left to close the door.
  • Special Teams Note: Harrison Butker hit a 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter but missed a 50-yard attempt wide left with 57 seconds remaining.
  • Game Notes: While Steve Spagnuolo’s defense clamped down when it counted by forcing multiple stops and two turnovers, the unit struggled to generate consistent four-man pressure against a depleted Miami front. Kansas City also caught a massive break while clinging to a four-point lead when Miami was flagged for two penalties, including a disputed roughing the passer call on Chop Robinson after hitting Patrick Mahomes II. The controversial call bailed out the offense deep in their own territory, extending what had been a stalled drive into points.

That “Controversial Call ” was pretty self evident to me … ; )

The Defense sucked, but then again, they held them to 10 points somehow. If you can’t score more than that, you don’t deserve the win. Reminded me of the bend but don’t break philosophy. they did give up some big plays that caused a lot of the problems.

There is an interesting story in how the Chiefs defense seemed better against the Colts, but gave up 30 points. A lot more than 10.

The Dolphins deserve a little credit here; they were young, fast, tough and were not scared of the Chiefs at all.

The Chiefs put them away late and didn’t let them comeback, but it wasn’t pretty at all. There was no pass rush and the Chiefs couldn’t stop a back up running back.

This was reminiscent of Bob Sutton defense. You’re right.

They have a big challenge next week. To everyone’s surprise, probably even Da Raiders.

They did have a bit of a rush when Furious George got his int. They were using a quick release which makes it tougher.

The Chiefs team had only one recorded QB hit through four quarters of football. They’re going to have to figure that out.

yeh. I don’t know the times for the Miami QB from pass to release.

He was definitely doing it faster than the Chiefs were able to rush…

Some people think the Chiefs were being vanilla on purpose, but I think they just matched up with the Dolphins poorly and underestimated them vs going on the road and being out of their comfort zone.

Hopefully they look better against the Raiders.

I think the defense stopped them 3 times on 4th down and got 2 turnovers. That might be what made the difference.
