Game Summary
1st Quarter
Chris Jones got on the field immediately as the defense took the field first and the group forced a quick 3rd and 4, but the Jags converted on a short 5 yard pass to convert. The next play a screen to Engram saw his carry half the chiefs defense to a gain of 17 yards to cross midfield. Two plays later it was 3rd and 6, but this time Chris Jones showed his value as he got pressure, forcing Lawrence into George Karlaftis and Danna for the sack.
Two plays into the first offensive drive Mahomes found MVS for a first down, but he ran backwards to set up the 3rd and 1, which failed when Mahomes found Donavan Smith who was not legally allowed to catch the ball, so Townsend was forced on the field quickly.
Jacksonvilles’ 2nd drive was sloppy on both sides. The first play saw Nnadi push the guard back into Lawrence and knock down the pass. The next play Lawrence wasn’t ready for the snap but managed to gather it and throw an incompletion to save a big loss. Then 12 men on the Chiefs defense set up a 3rd and 5, which fell incomplete as Sneed defended the pass on a play the Jaguars thought was pass intereference.
The sloppy play continued into the Chiefs’ 2nd drive as Mahomes almost threw a pick on the first play, but did find Skyy Moore for a quick 7 yards on the next play to set up a 3rd and 3, which was converted another quick pass this time to Toney for 13. Toney continued to redeem himself from last game on the next play as he took a screen another 17 yards to get across midfield. Two plays later is was the Toney show again as he got a tough 11 yards on another short pass. An incompletion on a defended pass a a screen to Pacheco later it was 3rd and 10. Mahomes found Kelce for the first down, but Donavan Smith got caught for the hold to make it 3rd and 20, which Mahomes just checked it down to McKinnon to pick up 11. It would have been a 55 yard field goal attempt, but Reid decided to play it safe and punt it, which was a beauty pinning the Jaguars on their own 2.
The Jaguars managed to get a bit of space after picking up a first down on the 2nd play when Sneed stumbled a bit and couldn’t tackle the receiver quickly. Another 2 plays later it was 3rd and 9, and while it was a drop Sneed got called for the pass interference and gave the Jaguars the first down. Another 2 plays later it was another 3rd down, this time with 2 yards to go, but this time Jaylen Watson made a huge play to tackle Kirk short of the line to gain, and the Jaguars took the 4th and 1 to the 2nd quarter.
2nd Quarter
The 2nd quarter started with Richie James muffing the punt and giving the Jaguars the ball deep in Chiefs territory. The defense still played strong (with a little help from a false start) forcing a 3rd and 7, which was nearly a touchdown but Zay Jones was out of bounds in the back of the endzone, so the mistake cost the team just 3 points.
The next drive started with a too-tall incompletion to Skyy before Mahomes decided to pick up the 1st down himself with an 11 yard scramble. Two plays later it was 3rd and 7, and while Mahomes did find Justin Watson he fumbled a split second before hitting the ground and giving the Jaguars the ball on yet another brutal turnover. And to add insult to injury Kelce got called for a penalty to give the Jaguars another 15 yards.
The first play was a lateral that was mishandled and Sneed recovered. It was initially ruled incomplete but Reid told them no and they were forced to give the Chiefs the ball back. Then it was the Chiefs turn again, as Mahomes handled the low snap and was forced to just run for it for a 1 yard gain. The next play they called Jawaan Taylor for a false start, and Mahomes responded with what was essentially an arm punt interception.
On the second play of the Jaguars drive the defense set up a 3rd and 1, but more importantly Nick Bolton went down with a leg injury (he did get back in the game later in the drive). The mistakes continued as Nnadi jumped early and gave Jacksonville the free 1st down. But another 2 plays later it was another 3rd down for 5 to go, and the short pass over the middle that got the 1st down by the smallest of margins. A couple plays later Willie Gay suffered a helmet to his stomach and had to take a quick rest. The next play was a trick play that Leo Chenal read perfectly to force a 3rd and 11. Chris Jones initially got the pressure, but Lawrence escaped but was 5 yards short of the 1st down. Being in no man’s land the Jaguars went for it on 4th down, but this time Chris Jones actually got the sack and gave the offense the ball back at midfield.
The offense still looked out of sorts as Mahomes was sacked on the first play, then got an illegal formation on Jawaan Taylor. They finally moved in the right direction with an 8 yard completion to MVS, but it still set up a 3rd and 14, and a dumpoff to Noah Gray saw him dodging defenders for 12 yards to set up a 4th and 2. Now it was the Chiefs turn to go for it on 4th down, and the quick pass to the outside to CEH picked it up easily. The next play Kelce got his first catch of the season for real for 7 yards, then Gray got a catch for 16 to get inside the 10. The play after that Mahomes found Skyy Moore for the touchdown to somehow take a 7-3 lead with 27 seconds left in the half.
The Jaguars managed to put a nice quick drive together, highlighted by Ridley making a nice catch despite being interfered with. McManus made the 49 yard field goal and an ugly half ended with the Chiefs ahead 7-6.
3rd Quarter
The Chiefs got the ball to start the 2nd half and with fans online clammoring for a run play they finally gave Pacheco the ball and he rewarded them with a 31 yard burst. The 2nd play was a run to CEH and he gained a lot fewer yards. 0 to be precise. After a incompletion to Kelce it was 3rd and 10 and Mahomes found Justin Watson deep for 34 yards to get into the redzone. After another short run and another short pass to Kelce it was 3rd and 3, on which Mahomes found Kelce for the touchdown and took a 14-6 lead.
After picking up a 1st down the next play was a sack by seemingly every Chief on the field that was credited to Karlaftis. They picked up 7 yards on the next play to set up 3rd and 10, which was dropped by Kirk on what would have been a 1st down to force the punt.
The first play was a frankly silly one where Mahomes faced pressure and dumped it off to Kelce who weaved his way for a 4 yard gain. After picking up the 1st down with a pass to Gray Jawaan Taylor got called for holds on 2 of the next 3 plays to make it a 2nd and 25, which turned into a 3rd and 19 after a screen to CEH. The checkdown to McKinnon was not even remotely close to picking it up, so the Chiefs were forced to punt once again.
The Jaguars faced a quick 3rd and 14 on the ensuing drive after an incompletion where they thought the Chiefs held which maybe helped cause them to run out of time and get a delay of game. They tried to run a screen but Chris Jones said no and they gave the Chiefs the ball right back.
Toney was having a nice game but on the first play of the ensuing drive he fumbled the ball and, while he recovered it, lost 12 yards. An incompletion to Kelce later it was 3rd and 22, which the underneath screen to Toney was not remotely close to picking up, so it was the Chiefs who quickly punted back to Jacksonville.
The Jaguars finally found life on offense by finding Kirk deep for 45 yards on the first play. After a couple more plays, the 3rd quarter ended with the Jaguars facing a 2nd and 5 on the Chiefs 11.
4th Quarter
The 4th quarter opened with an echo of an earlier play where Zay Jones caught a pass at the back of the endzone but ran out of space, this time setting up a 3rd and 5. The next play Justin Reid got call for pass interference to set up 1st and goal on the 1 yard line. The first play was a designed run by Lawrence but the Chiefs played it well and lost 3 yards. The next play was another pass too deep, this time to Ridley who hurt himself on the goalpost. On 3rd and 4 it was yet another incompletion, this one not even close. The Jaguars decided to kick the field goal and bring it to 14-9, and the defense got the credit for an incredible goalline stand on a 1st and goal on the 1.
The Chiefs offense started the next drive strong with back-to-back 10+ yard plays to cross midfield quickly, one a pass to Watson and another a run by Pacheco. The next play was another big play, with Mahomes scrambling for 10 yards. Two plays later it was 3rd and 7, and a checkdown to McKinnon was very close but just short of the 1st. On 4th and inches the Chiefs shockingly ran it up the middle and picked it up. Two plays later Mahomes found Rice for 15 yards to set up 1st and goal on the 10. An incompletion, another Taylor false start, a false start by Tuney, and Toney falling down on a screen created a 3rd and 20. Mahomes tossed it to Kelce but he got hit and it fell incomplete. Butker made the field goal and it was 17-9.
The first play of the next drive Bryan Cook made a nice play on the deep ball, forcing Zay Jones to play defense, but Cook got injured on the play (he thankfully returned a couple plays later). But after that Lawrence started feeling his groove as he picked up 1st downs on back-to-back plays through the air, then the next play scrambled for 18 yards. The defense tightened up forcing a 3rd and 6 a couple plays later, but a diving Evan Engram just managed to pick up the 1st down. And on the next play he picked up another 11 yards on a play action pass. Lawrence looked less sharp on the next two plays as two incompletions set up a 3rd and 10, and Chris Jones decided now was a good time to show up again and force Lawrence to throw it backwards out of bounds (and Reid had to challenge to get the correct call again). Jacksonville didn’t want to give the ball back to Mahomes without tying the game with just 5 minutes left in the game so went for it on the 4th and 12. For the 3rd time this game Lawrence threw it to the back of the endzone but it was too far and the Chiefs defense held.
With 4:16 left and an 8 point lead the Chiefs wanted to burn as much of it as possible. The second play Mahomes knew the script and scrambled for 14 yards to pick up the 1st down and keep the clock moving. The next two plays were two runs to Pacheco setting up 3rd and 6, and Mahomes ran out of the pocket and found Skyy Moore with nobody around him that went 54 yards and took the ball to the Jacksonville 12, all but ending the game. Two Pacheco runs picked up the 1st down and the Chiefs ran out the clock for the Chiefs win!
I was impressed with how Jones was able to maintain his conditioning. he should have been gassed at half time, but just kept getting stronger. impressive performance.
We broke ESPN on that play. 4th and 80?!? lol

The Defense is the bright point of this team. Raise your hand if you had “Defense carries the team” on your bingo card
Honestly I thought they had the chance to be actually good this year. Requires CJ95 and step forward from outside pass rushers. So far so good.
But carry the team? Two games now should have been D victories.
Ok defense. I see you. I said around the 2nd qtr that they’re wasn’t much positive about this team. I was way wrong.

Sometimes I tell myself I should stop drinking so much, but I’m not about to listen to a drunk who’s talking to himself.
D showed up, again…
O did enough..
a win is a win
This one seems about right.
Good god that was an UGLY win, but I’ll take it! At least I found out the the Chiefs aren’t as soft as the Arrowhead Pride writers!
Also:
The defense came to play today. Awesome to see. We win this game easily if we stop shooting ourselves in the foot (lookinβ at you Toney and Taylor). Still a lotta ball left, the Raiders, Bengals, and Chargers all lost today, Iβm feeling good!
Denver wearing white at home? Hey Ups, is it that hot in Colorado?
Hot in the sun today

Fair enough!!
Maybe Pacheco earned a few more carries next week.
Keeping him fresh for the 4th? π€·π»ββοΈ
Most pics rate 5/10
Well the 10/10 for you would be NSFW. This is a family site you dirty old man π
Pay Chris Jones!!!!
Pay that man his money
We tried. His agents got greedy
The team got cheap. Dude was a legit force today.
No they didnβt. Maybe you could argue they could have paid more, but they offered $70mil guaranteed. Thatβs not cheaping out.
