AG Spotlight: State Of The Kansas City Chiefs
50 repliesIt’s been one helluva offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s take a look back at the past month or so in Chiefs Kingdom and find out where the red and gold are seated at Arrowhead on their continuing path to the Super Bowl. Join AG to discuss…
Hello Arrowhead Guys. It’s the month of May. The Kansas City Chiefs have gone through free agency and the NFL Draft, and the hope for a strong roster in July is at an All-time high. That’s not just blind hyperbole, either, the red and gold have made some fantastic moves throughout the offseason. Even with fans, the media, negative nancy’s and debbie downer’s questioning their moves, motives and methods all-the-while…the Chiefs have persevered and have put together a roster that is really tough to complain about. Even the most negative Chiefs fans I know don’t have much bad to say about the team after the changes they’ve made over the last couple of months.
That’s not a challenge either. I know folks will still find things to complain about. They’ll start with the Tyreek Hill trade, digress to the Frank Clark move and pick apart the Chiefs’ efforts in free agency and the draft while somehow ignoring the positives of the players the Chiefs have added and secured. They’ll gripe about the pass rush, the lack of a proven corner, letting the Honey Badger walk and how the team doesn’t have a legit number one receiver on the offensive side of the ball. The might bicker about how there’s no real right tackle on the offensive line or suggest that Orlando Brown Jr. is not a long term solution at left tackle. Folks might still hold ill-will against Mecole Hardman or discuss how Chris Jones doesn’t make enough plays on the quarterback in the post season. A quality Internet troll might even bring up how SPAGS needs to be fired or that Andy Reid can’t win when it matters. All of it amounts to long-time Chiefs fans’ insecurities that have been bred from watching this team lose for years (before Mahomes, Smith and Reid), mixed with all the bandwagon fans that now populate the Chiefs Kingdom. It’s fun. It’s football fanaticism.

After all of that is written and duly noted, it’s still meaningless because the reality is the Kansas City Chiefs, Brett Veach, Andy Reid and company have had what appears to be an incredible offseason. They’ve turned Tyreek Hill and his looming massive contract into bright and shiny new acquisitions that are ripe with talent and hidden potential. They made smart moves in free agency without throwing a hundred million dollars at any one player. They also took players in the draft at great spots of value, and used their draft capital to move around the board and acquire players like a mock draft simulator. After the draft, they landed some UDFA’s with some huge NFL ceilings and amazing potential. Even in terms of coaching, the Chiefs have made some moves along the way that will help this team improve quickly and retain their established position as a perennial Super Bowl Favorite.
As a car salesman in the spring time that dealt with my wife getting into a bad accident with four of our children (it’s been crazy and we are fortunate), I haven’t had as much time as I’ve wanted to have to tap out words to AG about our beloved Kansas City Chiefs franchise. However, I’ve been following along on Twitter, and I’m going to show you a few of my thoughts and tweets that I’ve had since I wrote my last article that was simply titled: “Offseason: The Kansas City Chiefs” If you want to refresh yourself on how we felt before the draft give it an Andy Reid. If not, let’s look back on some things that caught my eye on Twitter over that time. Are you ready? No? Too bad:
Elon Musk bought Twitter. Meh…

Two All-Juice players in the first round? I think so…
Both of the players the Chiefs picked seemed like they would’ve been on the @TerezPaylor All-Juice team and to me, they just look better and better under scrutiny. Especially George Karlaftis III. His story is just amazing.

The biggest story for KC?
Even after all the Chiefs moves, the biggest story line in Kansas City is the team still having Mahomes.
— W.A. Watts (@ChiefBlindersOn) May 3, 2022
For years, fans argued that all that matters in the NFL is a franchise QB. Turns out they were right. Still are.
Luckily all of this stuff will just make our QB even better.
Why? Just look at our roster around Mahomes!
This Chiefs roster is stacked with talent, franchise core players, league vets, a couple-few disgruntled former 1st rounders, youthful developmental projects and tons of rookies. https://t.co/P8NV7Zp8nP
— W.A. Watts (@ChiefBlindersOn) May 3, 2022
Don’t need blinders to see the potential on this roster. Wow.
Let’s Go!
Even with a new number 10!
Wait until the regular season starts when the fans that don’t follow football in the offseason notice that isn’t Tyreek…

That’ll be exciting.

Let’s kick around some MOAR thoughts!
After the Bengals vs. Chiefs game, fans were distraught. The Super Bowl we were building towards in 2021 was lost forever. The roster was in flux, our offensive hopes were tied to re-signing Tyreek Hill with the biggest WR contract in history, and we needed help on the defensive side of the ball after the Bengals burrowed a hole in our Super Bowl dreams like a bunch of A-Hole’s and then didn’t even win the Lombardi. Something needed to be done, and we all knew Brett needed to somehow-someway Veach for the Stars.
Yet, it didn’t seem probable. The Chiefs did the unthinkable and sent Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for about 10,000 draft picks and billions of dollars in cap savings. Chiefs Kingdom had an aneurysm, stroke, heart attack and full-blown COVID-AIDS all at once. It was crazy. We’re thinking you keep Frank Clark and trade away one of the best weapons the NFL has seen since Randy Moss was taking off plays between domination for some money and draft picks???(times[x]’??? SQUARED’) We might as well have traded for Freddy Krueger because it was a Nightmare on One Arrowhead Drive-STREET. What a mess.
Nevertheless, and all of the Skyy Moore. The Chiefs made it work in convincing fashion. The Chiefs took what they gained from the Dolphins and the salary cap and put together a team that is going to look completely different next year. Every place you look on the roster, there is depth like Johnny and not many turds like Amber. It’s a reason to believe the Chiefs are locked and loaded to rebuild the team around their superstar QB Patrick Mahomes and their hall of fame level TE Travis Kelce. Putting defenders like Trent, George, Bryan, Leo, Josh, Jaylen and Nazeeh around current Chiefs like Sneed, Jones, Gay, Bolton, Clark, Fenton, Baker, Reid, Danna, Nnadi, Wharton, Bush (Twitter Champion) and the Juan and only Thornhill is going to only make this team better. Potentially!!!
Conclusion
The only conclusion that I can come to is excitement. As I’m ready for some football. I’m ready for games to be back on Sunday’s. Alas, it’s still only MAY, but maybe the Chiefs are going to give us an even MOAR complete football team. I know one thing, I can’t wait for training camp because the Chiefs just put together a roster that is going to be so exciting to watch shape up. I’ve been watching the Kansas City Chiefs play football for well-over three decades, and I can’t remember a time with my blinders off that the team still looked so promising. Can we still bitch, moan, gripe and complain about this football team? Of course we can, and we will! That said, it takes a little bit more effort, as the Kansas City Chiefs have knocked this offseason out of the park like a walk-off Grand Slam to win the league. A little piece here and a little piece there as the season gets closer, and the Chiefs may end up with the best roster and QB and TE in football come September. It may only be MAY, but the Chiefs took a huge swing to turn their maybe future into a probable SUPER BOWL run. How do you spell probable in “Chiefs” talk? 20–0. Let’s roll!
has anything been settled on Frank Clark’s legal situation?
Broncos’ Jerry Jeudy arrested in Colorado, charged with criminal tampering in domestic violence case
Seriously, how does an officer not read the case files before a press conference (see video). Like WTH?

It’s because he lives in Denver. Having the Broncos there lowers the IQ of everyone else. It’s a residual effect.
Damn!!!!
Now I am ready for some football!!!!

$10M over two years is…$5M a year. The tender we have now is $4.4M a year. I think they can find $600K a year.
Mahomes left that in his pocket in his skinny jeans when he dropped em off at the cleaners
he loves KC, maybe he gives a “We Are Family” discount …
I really hope the rumors are true in that we’re just waiting until after OTAs/Beginning-of-camp to sign him so he doesn’t have to participate. The dude doesn’t really need to show up until the last couple of weeks of training camp. If he does that I’ll call him “The Ringer!”
my mind wondered off for a moment
Why can a team not offer ownership ability as part of a players compensation?
take part of that of the salary cap regards QB pay

CHIEFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thx , as always CBO ..
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ?? great write-up
Rated “5 Stars” for Awesome Sauce
I’m nevr one for “yeah, 20-0 sounds right” but love the write-up, and I’m about as juiced as I can get for 2022 season … helluva (potentially) flippin’ fantastic off-season (I mean the draft alone, and the PFF numbers for our first 3 picks is ridiculous)
last week was in hospital for hip surgery, and ended up watching Draft Day (Kevin Costner) and it seems to me that Veach has, this year, put his own stamp on the team like never before (so long, John Dorsey, we sorta miss you maybe?) all while playing Moneyball (his own system) to a tee
yeah, there WILL be bumps along the way, to be expected, but I think Veach and his crew did a terrific job of paving the road for the next five years, an with another 10 picks NEXT year, the whole thing is even more ridiculously awesome
well done and thanks for the thoughts, CBO … miss ya and hope EVERYONE is well with you and yours
Nice writeup!
State of the Chiefs players: Raring to go!
