2023 NFL League Year (And Free Agency) Officially Begins Open Thread
124 repliesWe had a couple days of legal tampering where teams could talk to players and work out deals, but those deals couldn’t be officially consummated until today. That also means free agent signings will continue to come in, so this is the thread for updates on that front.
A potential WR target off the table.
We’re gonna end up with OBJ by default
Well ๐ฉ. That’s the only WR I was interested in.
Brandon Cooks to Cowboys. Apparently tied for the most traded man in NFL history.
No Tunsil Trade
We weren’t paying that, anyway
Odell Beckham, Jr. seems to indicate heโs been offered only $4 million per year
A $4 million offer definitely seems low, especially if itโs not coupled with an incentive package that would allow Beckham to make a lot more if he plays well. The overriding question continues to be whether heโll take a one-year deal, prove himself again, and hope to get something much more than $4 million per year in 2024.

And Plus Name’s guy is off the board.
That’s a solid signing. He is a very good rotational inside piece. Would have loved him coming here
I would love for us to go get Greg Gaines now. Let’s fill as many holes as possible before the draft so we can take the best player available.
Beat me to it! How do you share a tweet on here? Do I have to do it from a computer because I couldnโt figure it out on mobile. Most likely a โsimple userโ error. Haha!
I just post the url and it works
And thread for him.

And contract. Same numbers as Tranquill
Whereas Thornhill got $7 million year
According to Twitter we landed Drue Tranquil. Iโll take it since he seems to be the closest to figuring Mahomes out on his scramble / sidearm throws
The AG post on it.

ALL THESE YOUNG CHIEFS FANS
and most Chiefs fans in general – acting like a CRAZY EX………hourly & daily, Crying for Chiefs to get a #1 WR!! STOP THE MADNESS
Can anyone name ANY of the Pats WIDE RECEIVERS from ANY of their Championships???? (without a google search).
Patrick is BETTER than Brady…….Hall Of Fame (Andy, Travis, Patrick) will win MORE championships – regardless of who the WR’s are on the field.
..
..
I’m 100% fine with Chiefs waiting til MAY – if it goes that long, for a #1 WR. Chiefs are LOADED with run blocking, pass patching Tight Ends and FINALLY HAVE A REAL RUNNING GAME WITH #10.
Worse Case, Chiefs play with wide receivers on the CURRENT roster.
Eldeman and Welker
After working so hard to figure out Cincy’s tackle situation, turns out I missed this news.
There were questions about what the Bengals would do at RT after signing OBJ, but those questions are apparently answered.
Ok so this is just depth apparently. I thought it was weird for him to be a starter, but also typically depth tackles have to play whatever side is needed so I don’t know what this promise means.
The real answer.
Not really free agency, but it looks like Dan Snyder is about to sell the Washington Commanders.
Dang, I wish the Chiefs had brought him in at that number.
Obj says he wants to sign with a a Super Bowl contender. I just wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with OBJ
“I only want to play if I have a better than 75% chance of going to the SB. I don’t want to earn it. I want to be gifted it”
Or close enough to an actual quote, anyway
OBJ is a BFF with Von Miller — this OBJ garbage is a MONEY GRAB to drive his price higher………OBJ was surprised last year, not ONE nfl team wanted to sign him for HUGE $$$$…….now, he just wants TOP $$$.
$20m or more a year
he’s not worth $20m – always hurt & a COKE head (google video) & drama queen/locker room cancer
Small move
With Mahomes deal restructure and 10 million more in cap space who are they going after ?
Gives them flexibility to move up in draft. And it may just be about flexibility
The news about Brown going to the Bengals for so much less than the Chiefs supposedly offered him last year is crazy. Veach and AR must have told him theyโd only keep him as a RT after this past season or else Brown over played his hand and then no one would pay him anywhere near what we were going to.
Brown bet on himself and lost a ton of money. Still good money in the grand scheme of things.
Brown wanted to be the highest paid and he’s getting the low for a left tackle. He lost 16 million by not signing the Chiefs deal last year. Does he have an agent ?
Yes
But I think Brown specifically wanted an agent who didn’t have other NFL clients. So I don’t think the guy knows the league and probably didn’t push back much for Brown to be realistic. I bet he could have gotten more money if he agreed to play RT.
But he HAD one, unlike some other guy who wants way more than he’s worth
I doubt KC told him he would have to go back to RT, it was probably that they weren’t willing to offer even the same contract as last year, and that’s tough for about any player to accept. I think he found a lot of teams weren’t interested in him at LT, and weren’t going to pay him like he expected. I really think the ProBowl nods had him thinking he should be the highest paid OT going into this offseason. He pretty quickly learned otherwise.
