Wednesday O/T: Ron Rivera is out, and Jason Garrett looks to be next
49 repliesArrowhead Guys discuss anything and everything.
Yesterday the Panthers decided to move on from Riverboat Ron Rivera after 9 seasons despite him having a winning regular season record and having more playoff wins than the Chiefs have had in the last 25 years.
It’s also looking like Jason Garrett is going to be fired as well, as Jerry Jones has given him what may be the worst vote of confidence that has ever been uttered in the history of the spoken word.
Which leads to the question that was debated on sports radio this morning while I was driving to work eating my Chinese crackers.
If you were a head coaching candidate, would you prefer the Carolina or Dallas job?
Of course the talking heads said Dallas because “AmErIcA’s TeAm”.
Personally I’d probably choose the Panthers, if only because I wouldn’t want Jerry Jones trying to control what I do.
Panthers, Jerruh can fuck right off
I’d go to Carolina, definitely. During his announcement Dave Tepper talked about what’s going on. He’s not just replacing a HC, he’s building an organization and sounds like he has good plan to do it. The lack of building an org./est. culture is the reason some teams are in perpetual suck mode. He said he fired Rivera now because there is no way he would go behind his back. That speaks to being upfront and honest in his dealings. I could see me fitting into that type of org. Dallas and Jerry, not so much.
Useless Fact
Vic Fangio is the 500th head coach to coach an NFL game.
There have now been 500 people to officially be the head coach in an NFL game, per: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/
As the Broncos played on Monday night week 1, he was last of the 6 new coaches to debut.
I just saw the Chiefs designated Xavier Williams to return from IR. We have 3 weeks to put him on the active roster.
Wonder if that will mean more Chris Jones on the outside.
I think there is a good chance. Especially since we seem to have a defensive lineman get hurt every game.
Good for depth, but all the interior guys have been playing well.
That’s why I think Jones might play more outside. That’s where we need the help, and Williams will give us more depth on the inside to absorb his loss there.
The D-line looked really good the game or 2 where he played outside a bit.
We play the Bears in week 16. The Bears 2020 first round draft pick will be sent to the Raiders. If our playoff seed is somehow already set by week 16, it might not be such a bad game to lose. It would be great if losing to the Bears helped drop a Raiders draft pick 5-7 spots.
*I still wouldn’t want to lose the game.
If we beat the Patriots and the Bills could beat the Patriots it would be a horrible game to lose.
I know you set the caveat.
I think Freddie Kitchens is out of a job next week with a loss to the Bengals. You heard it here first! Bengals boutta be 2-11.
I think he should be 1 and done, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t.
Ron Rivera the next Browns coach?
Agreed. He’s seems completely out of his element. Can’t believe Dorsey took somebody from position coach to HC.
The Bengals can probably afford to win one more game without risking losing the number 1 pick, but I don’t think they have much chance of beating the Browns.
They wouldn’t want to try too hard anyway just in case they beat the Dolphins in a few weeks.
Coaches and players don’t care about draft position. They have their own jobs to worry about. Like when the Colts supposedly sucked for Luck, it cost the GM, the head coach and many players their jobs.
It’s fun to speculate on though.
Teams might not try to lose, but some will “take the opportunity to evaluate what they have at quarterback” after they’ve been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Bengals already tried that, and went back to Dalton, leading to their first win.
*tin-foil hat on*
They wen’t back to Dalton to try to at least win 1 game, knowing that they had pretty much locked up the number 1 pick, and not wanting to go 0-16.
Idk man the Browns seem to be falling apart even more than they already were.
Freddie Kitchens should wear a T-Shirt that says “Pittsburgh finished it” on his way out the door.
This song was written while Journey was part of Thin Lizzy’s “Black Rose” tour in 1979.
Comparing this song, one of the heaviest of Steve Perry-era Journey, with any song from that album (but particularly personal favorite “Got to Give It Up”), the resemblance is pretty easy to see.
I love the outro to that song.
This song always reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield getting down on the golf course in Caddyshack.
Was about to listen to Dan Harms on 810. Didn’t know he spent time there. Of course now the GD app wont work. Hopefully I can catch it tomorrow as a podcast
The guys on 1510 love Dan. I constantly hear them say they are anxious to hear his opinion on stuff.
Dan does great work on his twitter feed and his articles. He seems to be making a name for himself.
Yep, he was a big get for AG.
It’s a toss up to me. I think the Jerry times meddling business is overstated and Dallas has the better QB and a much easier division.
But the South might get easier once Brees moves on, and they’re clearly going to be in the market for a new QB that a new regime can hand select.
Personal feelings about the Cowboys as a football fan aside, I wouldn’t take the Dallas job even for more money. Dunno about Carolina’s owner, but Jerry Jones is a meddler, and I detest bosses who insist on doing things their way and then leave me to trying to salvage something out of the mess they created. And then get blamed for whatever couldn’t be fixed, too.
Speaking of the Cowboys, I heard some juicy gossip about Michael Irvin this week from back in the day.
Do tell.
My driver from the airport was a professor who does Lyft and taxis on the side. He said back when he was an undergrad he took Michael and two hookers to a cheap Motel 6. He found Michaels phone in his car so he took it to him later that night and when the door opened the hookers were butt ass naked and Michael was just in a towel and the cheap bastard tipped him $1 for driving miles out of his way to return his phone. Cracked me up.
So Hank Hill was right.
The only juicy part of that was the $1 tip. I would have expected nothing less than the rest of it.
And the only reference to crack was “cracked me up.”
Not to say it wasn’t a good story.
Happy hump day AG. It seems every season that the Pats DON’T win the SB, it’s the team that gets hot at the right time who wins it. I know the chiefs havent looked to be firing on all cylinders all season, but here’s hoping that last week was a sign that we are starting to get hot. And in good timing, too. Need to show it against the Pats this Sunday.
Anyone think Anthony Lynn might be done in San Angeles?
I haven’t heard anything about him being on the hot seat.
I think he gets another year. He had a ton of injuries and they were key positions. He also has a QB that may have fallen off the cliff. He’s a good dude and deserves a second chance
Yeah, seems to be a pretty good coach. It would even be tough for a great coach to overcome that many injuries and that much shitty QBing.
Wait, he’s in Los Angeles?
Yes that’s right, I finally got those Chinese crackers. Now I just have to figure out where I should keep them so I won’t eat them all at once.
Is that what they call AmerAsian girls these days?
