What return of Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes will mean for NFL | New York Post

“For us, it’s just to play fast, be in the right area and literally for our offensive line to let nobody touch him. I think that’s going to happen this week. He had a great week of practice. He’s been practicing well and we’ve been looking really good with him.’’

For his part, Mahomes sounded like he’s jumping out of his skin to get back onto the field. He certainly looked spry last Sunday while celebrating a game-winning field goal with his teammates — something Titans coach Mike Vrabel took notice of, telling reporters, “That was a pretty good jump there at the end of the game. He got pretty good air.’’

“I’m in a good spot,’’ Mahomes told Kansas City reporters Friday. “I’m ready to get out there.’’

Titans Bring Bill Belichick-Flavored Defensive Scheme into Week 10 Showdown vs. Chiefs | Chiefs Digest

The run game should focus their attack outside the tackles. Tackle zone runs, stretch plays, counters and the jet sweep/tap pass can get the ball on the edge and stretch out the Titans’ bigger front seven defenders. The linebackers lack the speed to consistently get to the plays on the perimeter and will occasionally over run the outside plays, opening up a cutback lane.

With the Titans running a man-heavy coverage scheme, the Chiefs can pick them apart with rub routes and crossers. These rub routes are particularly effective when targeting the running back out of the backfield and near the goal line. Using play-action to hit the deep over route behind the linebackers has a high chance for success. Kansas City can also use tunnel and bubble screens to get the ball on the edge quickly. With a couple of key blocks, these screens can gain good yardage.

Chiefs vs. Titans: Game Preview | The Mothership

The Chiefs are coming off one of their top defensive performances of the season against Minnesota, where they held the league’s leading rusher, Dalvin Cook, to just 3.4 yards-per-carry. It marked Cook’s lowest rushing average this season in games where he received at least 20 carries, and while Henry is no easy task, the Chiefs will be looking to mirror that success on Sunday.

And if Kansas City can slow down Henry, the pass-rush will likely have an opportunity to do some damage. The Titans have yielded the most sacks in the NFL this season (38), surrendering four or more in all but three games. Kansas City, conversely, has 15 sacks over the last three weeks alone. The Chiefs managed just one against the Vikings last Sunday, but defensive tackle Chris Jones – who was playing in his first game since Week 5 – led the NFL with seven pressures.

Five intriguing games of NFL Week 10 | The Athletic

The Chiefs win if: The Chiefs should still score points based on the number of misdirection plays coach Andy Reid has in his playbook. The Titans have a banged-up secondary, too, so a Chiefs’ victory could be built on strong performances from receiver Tyreek Hill, tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Sammy Watkins. Another reason the Chiefs could be improving at the midway point of the season is that their secondary has performed well the past three games. Few analysts have mentioned this, but the Chiefs are ranked fourth in pass defense in Football Outsider’s DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average).

Prediction: Chiefs 28, Titans 21

The Chiefs are capable of beating the Titans with Mahomes or Moore. The Chiefs have also played their best this season away from Arrowhead Stadium with a 4-0 road record. A win would also keep the Chiefs in the race for one of the top two seeds in the AFC playoffs.

Matt Moore, Chad Henne and a difficult decision at Chiefs quarterback | Arrowhead Addict

Then again, Moore is the one who has put up where it matters most: on the actual field. Henne himself is untested in Andy Reid’s system, but Moore has looked very solid in relief of Mahomes and even knocked off the Minnesota Vikings last week to go 1-1 as a starter against two Super Bowl hopefuls from the NFC. He’s completed 65% of his passes, thrown 4 touchdowns and kept interceptions to a minimum. His passer rating in the admittedly short sample size: 100.9.

It’s possible the Chiefs decide that being safe is better than being sorry. If so, then we might see both Henne and Moore carried on the active roster until the end of the season. Doing so keeps them from having that extra versatile lineman on either side of the ball or that special teams role player who comes in handy when it matters. But it might be the best way to honor the work of all involved.

Keep Mahomes Clean

In his first game back from a knee injury, protecting Mahomes is a greater importance than normal. While the offensive line doesn’t have to contain a good speed rusher this week, they do have to take on linebacker Harold Landry, who has six sacks on the season, and a defensive line that plays with good power. They will also see plenty of blitzing from the safeties and twists along the defensive line. If Mahomes is kept upright, he should get back to his normal MVP-level play.

I can see it now – 4th and inches at the goal line – Mahomes under center and we need to score – What play does Andy call?

Wish there was morning football every week. Just never the Chiefs. I’m feeling good today. Pat is going to be back in MVP form. Also very confident that the appropriate people have threatened Erving in such a way as to motivate him to do better.

Tarkus

Probably be some offensive holding calls today, but that’s okay.

Well should be interesting to see how much Hunt can do for Cleveland today.

My prediction is he will go for over 100yds, go out with his boys to celebrate, makes a poor decision, and gets suspended for the rest of the year.

Lol damnit this is hilarious. I hope its not the case though. I really think he’s just one of those guys that should not drink. Seems like a nice dude but when you drink he’s an ass clown.

He will probably make better decisions being in his home town. Oh wait,… nope. That has been disproven already. Fight night it is

Thanks, Sporting, your efforts are appreciated.

Don’t thank sporting, next he’ll start thinking he’s important, then he’ll want to be paid, then we’ll have to convert Bert’s to the English pound sand that’s a whole other hassle since we measure it in ounces.

I thought you guys measured it in gallons!

You buy it in gallons, but measure in ounces for daily allowance
