Chiefs vs. Lions: Your Plays Of The Game

Arrowhead Guys highlight the best offensive and defensive plays from the Chiefs victory over the Lions.

Arrowhead Guys scours the tape to find you the biggest plays on offense and defense every week!

Offense

With the Chiefs down 20-23 late in the 3rd quarter we were all starting to get nervous. We needed a spark…and we got it. This week it was thanks to Travis Kelce and Shady McCoy.

The Chiefs were able to go ahead 27-23 after this play got them into scoring position. After the game Head Coach Andy Reid discussed the play.

For those not familiar with Andy’s sense of humor, he’s saying that was not a play that was practiced. Kelce winged it on instinct and McCoy made it pay off.

Defense

The defensive play of the game should be obvious. With the score tied 13-13 in a 3rd quarter filled with turnovers and Detroit poised to score on the 1 yard line, something absurd happened. Suddenly Bashaud Breeland is shown running towards the endzone after the play was seemingly over. We’ve seen this before, a player runs off with the ball only to have the play blown dead by the whistle.

Not this week my friends.

The Chiefs were the benefactor of the officiating crew’s previous blunder with the Saints game blowing a call dead too early, so this week they let it go. They ruled the play a fumble recovered for a touchdown, and following review the play rightfully stood.

Even more impressive than Kelce’s awareness to flip the ball to McCoy was McCoy catching it cleanly and being able to make something out of it. Try running even 3/4 speed and have someone toss a football at you when you have absolutely no reason to expect it coming. Shady McCoy, running back Zen Master.

That fumble recovery. Seriously. That was awesome, and a good amount of awareness shown by Bashaud Breeland, even when no one else was paying attention he picked it up and ran with it. (Well, jogged with it once he got across the 50, but you know what I mean.)

If anyone has the radio call for that, please share.

There were several clutch plays. Great team win.

Breeland. That’s a 14 point swing man. I don’t know how there could be a more significant play in any game.

Watched this game with a good friend who is a Lions fan. Was not as fun as I hoped! My favorite play aside from the two above was Mahomes’ scramble. He does whatever it takes to win! Period. Even though he kills it in the stats department, it’s clear he doesn’t care about them. 0 passing TDs in situations where we easily could have seen a shovel pass or jet sweep with a flip to make it a pass.

Love this team! I’m even OK with the improvement on defense. If we end up with the 20th ranked defense we’ll win the Superb Owl! I hope Claiborne makes a difference. We have two weeks to find out before P2 becomes available so let’s do this!

In other news, Vontaze Burfict has just been suspended for the season for his hit on Colts TE Jack Boyle

My play of the game was Mahomes scamper for a first down on 4th and long during the 2:00 min drill. Single handily kept us in the game with a chance to ultimately win.

I’m gonna go with Pringle’s YAC for the play of the game. It might’ve made the difference between FG and GW-TD, and I’m still astounded that he didn’t fumble like literally everybody else.

You and me both.. brought it up on another thread.. that was a solid hit and he held the ball. He fumbles, game over more than likely.

Tarkus

By all rights, he should have fumbled, and we couldn’t really blame him. That was amazing ball security.

Berserker

It’s like all the fumble karma accumulated throughout the game just so Pringle could use it all up at that exact moment.

Yesterday was probably the most I’ve ever enjoyed a Chiefs game… I was dying laughing at the fumble return for a touchdown after they showed the replay and I knew there was no way they could overturn it. Then when Kelce made that catch and lateral to McCoy I was going nuts. I’ve always wondered why players didn’t take advantage of obvious opportunities like that. Yeah, yeah, there’s a chance they’ll fumble, but when you have an opportunity like that you have to take advantage of it!

Reid’s clock management still kills me sometimes, but hopefully he’ll figure it out before the playoffs and not cost them a shot at a Super Bowl…

Yeah but I remember a lateral attempt being fumbled and flipping the game in the rose bowl back in…05? Reggie Bush flips it back and Texas recovered. UsC was about to go up two scores…
