Game Summary

The first quarter went down like many before it this season, with the Chiefs falling behind on the merits of hapless defense and an offense that isn’t clicking. With the Chiefs driving down the field the quarter expired with the Lions leading the Chiefs 10-0. I’d write more about this quarter but to be completely frank with you it was wholey unspectacular.

The second quarter felt like more of the same ‘meh’ even though the Chiefs did outscore the Lions 13-3. The Chiefs opened the quarter with a field goal before Shady McCoy Shady McCoy’d the majority of a drive capped off by a Shady McCoy score. With seconds ticking away Patrick Mahomes hit Darrel Williams down the seem for a 30 yard gain putting the Chiefs in position to kick the tying score before half.

The second half opened with a mix of tragedies and redemptions. Mecole Hardman fumbled the opening kickoff setting the Lions up on a short field. The Lions passed for a touchdown that was subsequently (and rightly) overturned which was followed up by Derrick Nnadi knocking the ball out of Matt Stafford’s hand and was recovered by Chris Jones. Unfortunately a few plays later Darrel Williams coughed the ball up and the Lions proceeded to drive down to the 1 yard line where they fumbled at the goal line. While the Lions treated it like a dead play Bashaud Breeland observantly picked up the ball and ran 100 yards for a touchdown uncontested. The quarter ended with the Lions up 23-20.

The fourth quarter opened with a 10 yard passed to Travic Kelce turned alley-oop to Shady McCoy for 23 yards that ultimately led to a 1 yard Darrel Williams touchdown. The Lions answered with their own (non) touchdown, driving 9 plays and 79 yards capped off by a pass out of bounds that was miraculously ruled a score. Then it all came to a 4th and 8 for the Chiefs to stay in the game and Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a 1st before a pass to Travis Kelce got the Chiefs within field goal range with the score 27-30. A 1st and goal catch and run by Pringle setup a 1 yard touchdown run to put the Chiefs ahead 34-30 with 20 seconds left on the clock. A hail mary ensued ending with the ball on the ground and 2 ticks left on the clock. The final play of the game was sent airborne with a prayer and batted down by one Juan Thornhill. Game, blouses.

Watched this game with my best friend who is a Lions fan. Almost lost a best friend because we were both having heart attacks during that 3rd quarter.

This was a heal of a game …. for anyone who was not a Chiefs or Lions fan for damn sure. I love that Mahomes didn’t force it and took the rushing touchdowns. Wins are the stat he cares about, period!

Love it! Love this fucking team!!

When you turn it over as much as we did and still win, you take that win and get out! Go Chiefs!

Great game. This was what I expected last week vs the Ravens.

I’m becoming spoiled though. The tables have now turned in MY favor, and it’s fucking AWESOME. When the Lions scored with 1:30 left I didn’t freak out. My immediate thought was “you left Mahomes too much time, thanks”.

God damn it feels GREAT to be on the other side of that feeling.

To be honest, the offense today was what I was afraid it would look like without Tyreek. Robinson stepping up and Hardman being a major contributor as a rookie have been huge windfalls.

Pat had a down day. I wouldn’t hold much stock in this being a regular occurrence. Plus if things go well, tyreek will be back soon.

I thought the same thing. This would’ve been the type of game Hill would’ve balled out in. Those “overthrows” would’ve had drastically different outcome.

And yet we still won. Bumpy day for our WRs having to struggle against double coverage most plays it seemed. At the same time, they survived it, learned from it, and we advance to 4-0. Pretty soon, Tyreek will come back with fresh legs. And that will just make us even better.

Seeing Minshew play well has to be salt in the wound for Foles.

Dude can’t catch a brake. Even after his magical run, he’ll probably still be backup to someone the rest of his career

Its a nice singular accomplishment. But having one spike of accomplishment in a sea of playing second fiddle can be bittersweet.

Not a bad choice either

Yeah man. Kelce today showed a ton of maturity. His catch on the final drive, his lateral to Shady… dude has come a long way from that dude getting flagged for doing a jerk off motion in front of a ref. Really liked Kelce today. Glad to see he seems to be 100% team first, because his TDs just aren’t there right now. We just gotta win, and he gets that. It’s awesome and I’m proud of him. Let’s keep this train going.

The 27+ point streak is still alive! 22 games straight now including playoffs. I feel like this HAS to be an NFL record.

Actually I looked it up. We’ve got a few more games on that streak.

If regression is playing one of your worst games and still throw for over 300 yards, then I will take regression all day long.

They should probably pick a week that Tom Brady doesn’t go 18/39 (46%) for 150 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and a 45.9 QBR instead…everyone has a down day. If 315 yards, 0 INTs, and 1 win is a down day, I’m cool with it because of the win.
