Winners and Losers: Chiefs versus Jaguars

Game one is in the books, and the Kansas City Chiefs went to Jacksonville, Florida and put together a pretty dominant showing. From start to finish the game never got away from the Chiefs, and you really could not have asked for a better or more competent start to the year for the squad. Here are your winners and losers from yesterday’s Chiefs vs. Jaguars game.

Winners

Patrick Mahomes: The reigning National Football League MVP went on the road to open up his second full season, and put up 378 yards with 3 touchdowns on 25 of 33 throwing. He looked comfortable all game, and also looked like he was having fun doing it!

Sammy Watkins: Probably the biggest day for a Chiefs WR since, well, forever. Watkins balled out, catching 9 passes for 198 yards and all 3 of Mahomes’ touchdowns. Certainly a way to start off the year, so thank you Sammy.

LeSean McCoy: Shady had a debut to remember for the Chiefs. 10 carries for 81 yards. We did not even have a chance to unleash Darwin Thompson due to Shady coming in and being the workhorse for this game. Think Carlos Hyde would have had the same result? Welcome to Kansas City, LeSean McCoy. Welcome to the Kingdom.

Harrison Butker: Perfect on the day. Our offense is going to score, giving Butker plenty of time on the field and he was 4/4 on field goals, and 4/4 on extra points. Keep it up.

Frank Clark: I am pretty sure all of America missed his INT, as the feed went out, but Clark sure does bring some swagger to this defense, and as the season grinds on this is something we are going need.

Juan Thornhill: The rookie had himself a day. 8 total tackles, 5 solo and 3 assisted. Just a matter of time before he snags his first interception.

The Chiefs fans in Jacksonville: From Albuquerque, I salute you all. That stadium was red, and even when I was outside manning the grill I could hear the Chiefs fans rocking the AWAY stadium. Certainly going to help give our team an edge if the Chiefs fans can keep traveling like this!

Losers

Myles Jack: I do not know what his tantrum was about, but come on man. Week 1 and you pull some stuff like that. You take the first spot on the losers list for this week. Gotta stay in the game if you wanna win, and getting ejected does not help your team. Maybe he will retire this offseason like another former Jaguars Linebacker did.

Chiefs fans around the world not at the stadium: Well we did not get to the see end of the game in probably one of the most bizarre season openers ever. It took everyone at our party to realize they did not flex the game, that they started having technical difficulties. By that time it was practically over, but I still wish I could have witnessed that Frank Clark interception.

Reggie Ragland: Healthy scratch week 1 is not a good sign. The roster is in flux, with DAT soon to be activated and eventually Morris Claiborne. If Rags wants to stick around he needs to make a case in practice, apparently.

Khalen Saunders: I tried not to read much into him sitting week 1, we have healthy rotation going on for our defensive line but we certainly need our higher draft picks getting the reps.

Tyreek Hill: At least he will not require surgery, but missing any significant portion of time is certainly going to bother the Cheetah and us fans. His training videos this off-season leads me to think we should just rest him up and not rush him back, but I know we all wish he were out there playing.

Nick Foles: I honestly cannot remember if I have ever read a comment anywhere here on Arrowhead Guys or anywhere else where a person has actually rooted against this guy. By all accounts he seems like one of those guys most fans, even us Chiefs fans seem to not actively “root against” so when he went out with a broken collarbone it stinks. Hope you get healed up fast and back at it soon, Foles.

Hoping Foles is back into playing shape soon. Always hate to see one of the “good guys” go down with an injury – particularly in week one.

Jacksonville’s defense returns to 2017 form against Chiefs
The Jaguars’ defense slipped from its 2017 form last season. It bounces back quickly by holding reigning league MVP Patrick Mahomes to less than 200 passing yards. Didn’t see that coming, did ya?!

Maybe he meant the first quarter. Oh wait….

I mean I get that you guys are mad about the poor sportsmanship of the Jags but when your prized free agent is Nick Fucking Foles I would be pissed also. I would say you guys killed them….but you didn’t destroy their will to play for the team like all of Miami is rumoring to do right now. LOLOLOL

Tony Sommer

The Raiders might be in the same spot as the Dolphins after you guys are done with them. Not that the Broncos are a great team, but the defense is good enough to make the terrible Raiders get frustrated after all the AB drama.

DenverDonkeyHater

Itll be interesting to see how the Raiders respond. Its a young team. They have asshat Burfict on D now. I think there is a possibilty that their D is okay or at least a bit nasty. Question is if Carr will start crying again and break their spirit.

I would like to see BV make a play for Xavien Howard. I’m not sure who is safe on that team right now but would be nice to pull him out of there.

upamtn

Jags have a good team and a lot of heart and soul … they’re gonna win some games, and that Minshaw whoever QB looks like he could be good in the NFL

as for the Dolphins, well … that’s just pathetic

No doubt about it . . . We broke those muther-fuckers

THEMancar

LOL Jack was pissed off. His own team was telling him to calm the fuck down. What a clown. I mean it didn’t change the ass whooping you laid upon the Jags but still. Jack is a damn good player.

upamtn

he was indeed pissed off, but still …

He tried to throw himself on the ground like a 2yo. That’s not a man.

One group that I would say is a loser or at least neutral is the o-line pass protection. Yeah we put up a lot of points but in terms of pass blocking they let the jags d-line who are definitely a strong point for the jags D, hit and pressure Mahomes way too much. They gotta bounce back next week and I think they will, cuz they definitely didn’t do a great job this week and they can’t let Mahomes take those shots week in and week out especially with the tender ankle.

No sacks of Mahomie yesterday

Tantrum is the perfect word for that clown’s antics. A person literally being dragged away because he is so out of control he refuses to stand up on his own is exactly the kind of situation everyone has experienced with a 3yr old. Total embarrassment. That defense certainly seems to coached to behave like hooligans, that shit was ridiculous. Marrone should go on the losers list.

DenverDonkeyHater

What did his quote after the game even mean?

“In the heat of the moment I just felt like when Sammy Watkins ran a route that was not a route and came and hit me underneath my chin”

He then goes on to say that he was mad at watkins for standing over him and jawing at him. Seriously fucktard? Look next to you at number 20.

Leaf

That makes no sense. He ran a route that wasn’t a route? WTF?

Where’s Ramsey?

Recovering from Watkins (and Tyreek early) abusing him all day. As for this article, he didn’t play well enough to make the “losers” list.

Probably a bit more reserved, like he was after he called Josh Allen trash, and then the Bills beats them.

Losers: Jacksonville Jaguars players…I seemed to see a lot of poor sportsmanship, above and beyond the Jack and Ramsey stuff. Just little things like slapping the ball out of Watkin’s hands when he scored his first TD. I know I’m old, but it rubbed me the wrong way all day.

KCChef

Plus it looked like we were playin’ in Carson there instead of Jax … : )

Maw423

Agreed. They slapped it out of Williams’s hand on the first play too, as he was handing it to an official. Should have been a flag right then and there. If it had been, it might have kept it from going as far as it did.

It took the 2019 Chiefs 3 Plays & 96 Seconds to Score their First Touch Down of the Season … Slackers … ; )

( ‘Mem’er when a ” 40 Burger ” was a Big Deal ? … : )

Remember when it was a big deal that our QB almost threw for 300 yards?

Tony Sommer

Mahomes has 11 career 300 yard games. Alex Smith has 12.

This will be a fun stat to revisit after Mahomes’ next 300 yard game.

slackator

Kyler Murray has 1 for 1 but hes to short and will never be anything right?

Tony Sommer

It took him 54 pass attempts to get there, so it’s not all that impressive.

ProfChesterTQ
ProfChesterTQ

Yep… that’s how Alex Smith usually got his too.

Lamar Jackson added one, too.
Remember when I said the Ravens could repeat as division champs this year?
I don’t sound so far-fetched now, do I?
I expect the Steelers to recover a bit, but the Browns? Who knows, but I won’t be backing Cleveland or Pittsburgh when they play the Ravens.

John Jay
John Jay

Great that Frank got an INT, but I really expected to see him put a lot more pressure on the QB. Wasn’t he frequently lined up against a third-string tackle?

Knightwolfbr

He drew at least 3 holding penalties.

Eze chief kingdom
Eze chief kingdom

true.. I was expecting the entire DL to be all over the QB though. I’m worried about the WR group hardman and Robinson were nonexistent. they are going to have to step it up I think especially against Baltimore

Tarkus

They were chipping him all game too, which also affects the offense. His presence was felt, even though he didn’t get to the QB.

A Lunar Ting

Drew holding calls. Not all about the sacks, folks.

slackator
slackator

the absolute best average maybe 1 sack a game, and yet people think thats the be all most important stat. I prefer the rest of the 99% of the game to be honest

MidKan Chiefs Lifer
MidKan Chiefs Lifer

He is paid in line with the best last I checked. He should be getting sacks against bad tackles. Houston did and so did Ford.

slackator
slackator

he should be getting tackles and doing what the coordinator asks him to do, and he did. Just because he didnt get the less than 1 glory stat play a game doesnt mean he didnt do his job. Hes paid to be a DE not just get 1 sack a game and he did his job pretty damn well yesterday

ProfChesterTQ
ProfChesterTQ

“Yeah, he should be dropping back into coverage a little more often for my taste”–Bob Sutton

zulu trader
zulu trader

If he was doing his job so well, he would have had a sack

A Lunar Ting

That’s a Veach problem. Not a Frank Clark problem.

MidKan Chiefs Lifer
MidKan Chiefs Lifer

True, but a holding call gives them the down back to do over. A sack just puts them back and loss of down. Sacks are better and he is paid to get around one per game. Jones was getting doubled every snap (from what my untrained eyes could see) and someone needs to be taking advantage of that.

Leaf
Leaf

True a sack is better than a hold, but that’s not something a push rusher can dictate. Faulting them for an offense lineman getting friskier than Big Ben is silly.

Tarkus

A sack is better than a hold, but is it better than three holds? That’s 30 yards.
