No Suspension for Tyreek Hill

NFL announced today that Tyreek Hill will receive no suspension.

More updates as the story develops. All updates will be below.

The NFL, after doing a 4 month long investigation, has determined that they cannot find evidence that Hill violated the personal conduct policy. Hill will receive no suspension and can report to training camp as normal.

Please keep in mind some very important things:
1) The NFL will reevaluate this if more information becomes available.
2) A lot of the evidence they wanted to look at was sealed in court documents so there is still a lot nobody knows.
3) The child is safe.

As for contract talks:

I have a friend who I might have to fight over this deal. He’s a Philly fan, somehow, even though he is from Kansas. Weird. Anyway, he seems to hate the Chiefs and he has gone full dumbass on this Tyreek deal. He is one guy that definitely bought in, wholeheartedly, to the “Tyreek did it” routine espoused by KCTV5 and the rest of the media. Now that it didn’t turn out the way he wanted, he’s decided the Chiefs are a crooked franchise who would rather win a ship than look out for the welfare of children. What an ass.

Mitko

Wasn’t his Superbowl winning coach one of the guys who helped draft Tyreek?

I don’t see anyone else pointing this out, so I will. Not only did Crystal Espinal violate Tyreek Hill’s trust by secretly recording an intimate conversation, she committed a crime under UAE law (Dubai is in the UAE). Maybe that factored into the NFL not punishing him? It took me 1 search to find this:

Article 378 of Federal Law No.(3) of 1987 of the Penal Code as amended by Federal Law No. 34 of 2005 states that:

“A punishment of confinement and fine shall be inflicted on any person who attacks the sanctity of individuals’ private or family life by committing any of the following acts in other than the legally permitted cases or without the victim’s consent:

a: Eavesdropping or recording or transmitting by any system of whatever kind, any conversation held at a particular place or via the phone or any other set.

b: Picking up or transmitting by any system of whatever kind, a person’s picture at a particular place. If the acts referred to in the above two cases during a meeting within the hearing or sight of the person attending, their consent shall be required.

The same punishment shall be inflicted on any person who publishes through any means – news, pictures or comments pertaining to the secrets of people’s private or familial lives even if the same is true. A punishment of confinement for a period not exceeding seven years and a fine shall be inflicted on any public officer who commits any of the acts described in this article depending on his functionary authority.

In all cases, systems and other tools used in the crime shall be confiscated and the recordings found shall be obliterated or destroyed”

Dear Tyreek,

Welcome back! I can’t wait to watch you throw up them deuces on the field this year!! I also hope that you throw up those deuces in your personal life as well. Please, for yourself, for your son, for the twins; do what you know is best.

You will be getting a hefty payday at the end of this year. You will have more money than you know what to do with. If you need someone to pick up and drop off your kids so you NEVER have to see, speak, or even associate with Crystal ever again, I’M YOUR MAN!! I will do whatever you need done with regards to serving as the middle man between you and her. Please take me up on my offer. I am a teacher, so you could match my current pay with about 1 quarter of a game’s contract for my entire year’s pay. I am also a great cook and I consider myself to be incredibly funny.

If you want to take me up on this offer, you can have your agent contact me. I currently live in Colorado with my wife, but I’m willing to put that on hold for a few years if needed.

Yours truly,

Shane

My biggest takeaway from this whole saga is how terrible the KC media is as people and as journalists, the KC Star in particular.

Bunch of racist, asshole bigots gunning for a man because of how he talks and the color of his skin, got led by the nose into a false story, and will now cling to it no matter what.

Meanwhile some dedicated fans on Twitter uncovered the real story in, like, a month, while the KC media didn’t bother to try to learn what happened for years. Pathetic.

Spider
Spider

They aren’t racist. They’re sexist. That is a very important distinction; it would’ve went down the same way if he were a ginger. The whole family law system is inherently sexist.

Mobberino
Mobberino

Family law can be sexist, that’s true. But it’s obvious from Brooke’s comments that she was chiefly motivated by Tyreek’s race, specifically in his manner of speaking and his supposed lack of ability to use English punctuation.

No one but a racist is going to think you must beat your son because you speak a black dialect.

Spider
Spider

I think I read it different than you wrote it. You were referring specifically to the media and I was thinking of the whole bunch of them working against him. I can’t argue with the point about Brooke, but I stand by my comment too.

It’s Friday, so I’m going to wildly speculate: At the 2014 preliminary hearing Hill’s lawyer placed a lot of emphasis on who Espinal contacted on her phone after leaving Hill’s apartment and the fact that the prosecutors/law enforcement investigators never examined her phone. Obviously this is just a guess, but if she had texts (even texts that have since been deleted but are still stored on the cloud) in which she spoke with friends or family about how to exaggerate the incident against Hill and create a believable story to get him in trouble, charges would be dropped as soon as that was discovered. Hill ran out of money, unfortunately, and I have no idea whether his defense attorney (either the initial private attorney or the subsequent public defender) had an opportunity to examine Espinal’s phone, but it’s very possible he took the plea deal without one. Now, fast forward to 2019, suppose Hill is able to access Espinal’s phone records as well as whatever is stored on the cloud. There may be evidence relevant to 2019, certainly, but he might also have discovered any 2014 texts that would have saved him if only he’d known about them at the time. That would blow everything we thought we knew about 2014 out of the water and essentially destroy Espinal’s credibility (as well, potentially, as that of some family/friends) and would absolutely explain why the NFL would overlook the threatening comment and let Tyreek walk without any suspension.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Crystal’s credibility has already been destroyed. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Crystal’s phone plan is under his name and thus giving him access without her permission. As fucked up as this might sound, this incident might be the best thing to happen to him. I also expect to hear a nice extension before the season begins.

I just wonder why the NFL decided to drag their heels on this.

Mink Farmer

After the initial outrage, and considering the fact that a large swath of the football-following public still believes he broke his son’s arm, the NFL had to be damn sure they looked under every rock before announcing no suspension.

He would’ve got the benefit of the doubt and a mulligan to get onsides the next play. After that its a stern talking to, then a flag. It’s an escalation of force.

im legit shocked he didnt get a 4 game suspension for the audio tape. Jimmy Smith got 4 games last year for similar reasons

Texas Chief

If you only listened to that one tiny snippet, I might agree with you.
That was some “editorial editing” that was designed for the most shock value possible to generate ratings at best, and outright head hunting dishonesty on the part of the journalist at worst.

Just listen to the whole tape. If you have the proper context of the entire conversation that was recorded in secret, you’ll see the obvious agenda that Crystal had. She was doing whatever she could to try to get Hill to say the abused his kids, and also avoiding every return question by Hill (especially when Hill repeatedly asked her about the 2014 incident). Hill said over and over again (about 2014) I never punched you. You’ve got me all twisted up over that 2014 charge. Just admit it.. I never punched you….etc.. Crystal was agreeing with him, without actually saying it out loud (because SHE knew she was on tape)

She kept changing the subject, or commenting about her neck…etc… completely diverting every time he brought up the alleged punching. It was really obvious to anyone that listened to the whole conversation that she’s trying to hide the details about 2014, and that it’s highly unlikely Hill ever actually punched her.

Take all that into account, and one flippant “You should be scared of me to….”, with no actual threat to follow, and a reasonable discussion where (at one point) Hill just told her… Yeah, I’ll think about discipline, but you think about that 2014… and then he dropped it. There was not escalation beyond that one comment.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

I am loving twitter right now. Just had a lovely conversation with a woman. Shockingly the conversation was a good one.

You can look at it here.

I’m going to allow myself some preening today, but I’m going to continue to make my point about Innocent Until Proven Guilty (IUPG) over the course of time.

MasterChief
MasterChief

How level-headed of you! And your prediction of a 2 game suspension +/- 2 games held true.

BleedingRedAndGold

Thank you, MC. I might have strayed slightly from the basic message in the heat of discussions (meaning that I defended Hill outright), but I think overall I’ve stayed the course. The on,ly other time I varied was when the edited audio came out – at which point I went quiet, because it was shocking, as presented and no doubt intended.

Guess I’ll add for those who don’t read tweets that it’s telling that those who insist that Hill can’t change and become a better person can’t admit they got anything wrong, and thus cannot change for the better, because they’ve placed themselves beyond the reach of facts to the contrary of their judgements. Stupidity-by-choice is worse than naturally low IQ, and much more dangerous, as well.

The only time I’ve been back to PFT was today. I posted a comment and said the court record from 2014 raised questions about his guilt then. I alluded to the fact that prosecutors (except in Chicago) never expunge a record where there is a charge of a violent felony, but they did in Hill’s case. It never saw the light of day. Hahahaha! Florio is a donkey ass and the donkey just pooped.

I am weirdly intriued to know how he did that with the CDs. I can get the coming forward but wonder how he got them to go back.

Leaf
Leaf

Protect his identity. Very concealing.

BleedingRedAndGold

Momentum and inertia working in both directions. By snapping his head forward, he threw his glasses far enough out from his face to allow the discs to flop out, which they did due to their own mass being flung forward. In reverse, by snapping his head back, the discs were flung backward, and the only place they could go is back to their original position. If you watch closely, his glasses are firmly on his face, but after he reverses, the glasses stay in their forward position.

But while the physics of the trick are pretty simple, figuring out that he could do it and how is one helluva trick in itself.

Berserker

Probably just trying some CDs on his glasses one day, as we’ve all done at one time or another, and happened to hear a loud noise just then.

Texas Chief
Texas Chief

“as we’ve all done at one time or another”

Really? I had record albums and then cassette tapes. I skipped the whole ‘CD era’ entirely and just moved forward to digital.
I bet I never owned more than 5 or 6 CD’s… and I didn’t pay for those.

How many different formats do I need to buy “The White Album” and “Led Zeppelin 4” on? heh.

Berserker

I was like that, but sort of a generation earlier. I almost skipped cassettes, moved from vinyl straight to CD. I had a few cassettes, but pretty much only used them for the car I drove in college.
