While this was not the extension we were expecting, Schwartz has been a solid right tackle and extending him through 2021 is the right call. Terms have not yet been disclosed but we will update the post once they become available.
Contract details have finally been released. It seems like a restructure with a year added on at the end and the first 2 years fully guaranteed.
Mitch Schwartz’s one-year extension is worth $11.255M and makes him the second-highest paid right tackle, per league source.— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) June 12, 2019
He had $13.2M left on his old deal. He gets that plus the $11.255 in the deal that keeps him in KC til 2021.
The #Chiefs are giving RT Mitchell Schwartz a 1-year extension worth $11.255M, source said, making him 2nd highest paid RT. That’s essentially his signing bonus, too. Accordingly, Schwartz’s 2019 and 2020 season (he did an extension with both years left) are fully guaranteed.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 12, 2019
