The Arrowhead Guys weekly hat tip to everything Kansas City

Welcome back to another edition of Tastes of the Town! Like always, there’s plenty going on around the city, it’s all about where you look. Let’s take a look at what’s happening in the Kingdom.

FIFA Watch Party

Partnered with the Kansas City 2026 World Cup bid, the Power and Light District is hosting free Women’s World Cup watch parties throughout the months of June and July. The watch parties will be at KC Live! and No Other Pub.

The first three games are scheduled as follows:

June 11th at 2p.m. – USA vs. Thailand

June 16th at 11a.m. – USA vs. Chile

June 20th at 2p.m. – USA vs. Sweden

I myself have been to some of these watch parties in the past, and they are a lot of fun, even for the least interested soccer fan. It’s definitely worth experiencing at least once.

Another awesome pop-up party is in our midst! Boulevardia is a two-day street festival that will be taking place June 14-15th in the Stockyards District.

Aside from the obviously fantastic beer from the Boulevard Brewing Company, there’s also food sampling, music, and great entertainment for the whole family. For more information or tickets, click here.

Arrowhead Guys BBQ

Thanks to Anthony Stratton, I met some of the great people of Arrowhead Guys that I get the pleasure of working with. He invited us to his home on Sunday for some drinks and awesome food. When I say awesome food, that’s a complete understatement. Not that I’m trying to get brownie points or anything.

Though I may be new to the site, these guys made me feel right at home. I couldn’t be more honored to have the opportunity of working alongside everyone in the AG community. So shout out to all of you!

Weekly Debate Fire Starter

So staying on topic with the delicious BBQ chef Tony graced us with, we have a little score to settle. My colleague Dave claims he makes the best wings around. Shortly after saying that, he was talking a little trash about Tony’s ribs. Need Evidence? I give you, exhibit A.

And here’s exhibit B:

This leads to me a question that certainly won’t ease any tension here. Who do you guys think wins in a face-off? Dave’s wings or Tony’s ribs?

Wings. Bye.

Anthony Stratton

Done me dirty…

R2J wins … yet again.

Well, I wasn’t hungry. Now I’m starving and want a huge Boulevard Wheat in a frosty mug.

If they’re hot wings, for me there’s no point comparing, as it’s apples vs. mangoes. Wings have qualities that ribs do not, and vice-versa, so it’s situational for me. Wings are good for binging and “grazing”, whereas ribs are more pigging out and as the main course of a set meal.

Now were I able to taste both, I could probably render an approximate verdict by thinking in terms of “better than average” (or more realistically, better than mine), with the winner being whoever’s meat is the one that is more superior to the average. While it’s not a hill I’d die on, I figure that the general preference for ribs would be moderated by the fact that there are a lot more folks obsessed with cooking perfect ribs than are doing it with hot wings. This’d give the wings a head start for the simple fact that average wings are not very well done, while (at least in KC), average ribs are pretty damn good.

But since I’m 600 miles away, I’ll be spared the Judgement of Paris. So leave the triremes in port, ok?

To be fair to Dave, if comparing ribs to wings, ribs would win every time. It is like comparing Makers Mark to a Bud Light.

Now all that being said, I bet Tony does wings better than Dave.

I love wings but they are not in the same level as ribs imo. Are we judging on which one we think would be better? Or which one would be better in relation to it’s own category?

If both are cooked to perfection the ribs will win every time

Team Spare Ribs here

Anthony Stratton

Always spare ribs.

Oh God, this debate starter should go over well 😂

Narrator in the story of Dave’s life: “It was then that Dave realized he may have poked the bear one too many times…”
