Tuesday Night Open Thread

Here we are, knuckle deep into the week. The Chiefs aren’t trading for Patrick Peterson, or any other player if I had to guess. If anything, they’re waiting to see if a CB gets cut, but aside from a shocking value suddenly becoming available, I suspect the Chiefs are happy with our current CB group…which appears to be just as special as a Tuesday.

But hey, at least they’re not our LB group.

3rd shift thread’s up.

CHIEFSandSABRES

9-4 Royals in the 4th inning and Danny Duffy is doing his best to implode and let Texas back in the game. About to walk the bases loaded.

CHIEFSandSABRES

We got absolutely destroyed at softball tonight, but I had a blast! About the only thing I get to do alone these days without a pack of kids in tow.

Tony Sommer

I got my wish, the Pelicans got Zion.

Mitko
Mitko

Great another big named College Star can go to New Orleans to disappear into their consistent rebuild

Tony Sommer

If Zion is good and Davis stays that would be a great duo.

Mitko
Mitko

Doesnt Davis want out? Is he a FA this year?

Tony Sommer

He does, but that was before they got the top pick.

slackator
slackator

hes still gone. He flat out quit on the team after the failed trade to LA and basically called it a season early. He has major issues with management that a young rookie isnt going to solve. This was the NBA rewarding NO for the loss of Davis

CHIEFSandSABRES

The NBA has a team named Pelicans? And I thought I was stepping my basketball game back up by watching some of the playoffs this year.

Tony Sommer

I’m not much of a CBB fan, so I don’t know much about Zion, but seeing him on this dumb ESPN pre-lottery show I really like him a lot, at least in terms of personality. He seems like a great kid.

Mitko
Mitko

While I think he’s a great player and probably the best in the draft, he was born 10 years too late. He won’t be as effective in today’s ISO 3pt NBA

BleedingRedAndGold

Noticed a bottom round roast marked down to $2/lb, so it’s Philly cheesesteaks (approximately) at the BRAG place tonight. The eldest conveniently scheduled a visit in advance in order to take advantage of it.

Mattl
Mattl

Cheesesteaks? I’ll be there in 20 minutes.

BleedingRedAndGold

Bottom round isn’t my first choice for cheesesteaks, but given it’s largely long, straight muscle fibers, handled properly it’s planty tender enough. No one here’s said a word for at least 5 minutes, so I presume they were well-received.

Mattl
Mattl

I don’t cook too often, so I guarantee you that you’re cheesesteaks would be well-received!

BoJest
BoJest

This little hole-in-a-wall place in Bullhead City Az uses ribeye for their Philly’s. DAAAAM they are good.

Tyrone
Tyrone

I don’t get the appeal of cheesesteaks. I’ve had a couple, and it’s possible I’ve only ever had bad ones, but they just don’t do it for me at all.

CHIEFSandSABRES

Man there was this little place outside Camp Pendleton when I was stationed there that was top notch. We’d come back from training or deployment and I’d hit it up first. Went to California this winter for Christmas, and it had closed down. A piece of me died inside.

Sad to hear that Bills Superfan Pancho Billa passed away today from cancer.

Mattl
Mattl

It would be cool if the NFL honored him in some way. Honorary Hall of Fame, or maybe when it’s cancer awareness month next season do a special game day in his honor.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

People are working on getting the Bills to do a school supply drive on opening day. This is because he said that he doesn’t want flowers at his funeral but backpacks full of school supplies for kids. Grade-A human being he was.

Mattl
Mattl

That’s awesome. The NFL is screwing up big time if their PR team doesn’t realize they could get a TON of good will from what they do here.

ForeverRanger91

I caught myself defending Brock fucking Osweiler. I pretty much said that Os would have been a good QB if Peyton hadn’t been a complete dick to him and allowed him to pick his brain.

venturachief
venturachief

That’s a tough argument to make. He also had a shot in Houston and they paid a lot to get rid of him.

ForeverRanger91

To be fair, BOB is a jackass who is being made to look like a genius because Watson makes him look competent.

venturachief
venturachief

I’m not sure he looks like a genius. I’d rate him competent at best. The fact that they haven’t done enough to protect Watson makes be think he’s not very good.

Mitko
Mitko

I legit thought he was going to be good out of college and was pissed the donks got him in the 2nd

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

To be fair he had no help from his coaches and as I said, you knew damn fucking well Fivehead wasn’t going to help him.

EAFOX
EAFOX

Andy would have made him competent. To be fair, most all-time great quarterbacks are not great tutors to their backups.

Remember when David Amerson was supposed to be our savior at CB

Tony Sommer

No, did anybody really think he would be?

Mitko
Mitko

Veach did. We all thought he was going to be a CB4 then Peters got traded and he was a starter

Tony Sommer

I wouldn’t call a CB4 a savior at the position.

Mitko
Mitko

He was the outside starting CB in preseason. So a CB2 maybe 3

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

He was a warm body. LUKE WARM.

venturachief
venturachief

That was one of Veach’s worst moves. And he banked on it to work and it failed miserably. At least he was willing to cut bait quickly.

Tony Sommer

Watching the NBA lottery tonight. I’m just hoping something exciting will happen, it’d be pretty boring if the Knicks get the top pick.

Mattl
Mattl

I tried to cheer up my 76ers friend by predicting their 1% chance at winning the lottery will happen.

Tony Sommer

That would be awesome. I’m a fan of tanking, so I want them to succeed.

Mattl

I haven’t followed NBA regular season too much the last few years, but I watch the playoffs as much as possible. I still can’t understand how after a couple season, Ben Simmons still can’t shoot outside of ten feet.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

My issue with the NBA is the same as baseball, just too many damn games for me to care. Don’t get me wrong I love baseball but they could afford to cut 10 games off the schedule.

Mattl
Mattl

Yeah, that’s why I specified that I’m more into the playoffs. The November/December games are pretty awful. Watching a midseason NFL game and then a day or two later watching an early season NBA game….very depressing.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Games really don’t start counting until the last two months of the season.

Tony Sommer

Yeah, I think I had a better jump shot when I played regularly. How is it possible for an NBA point guard to not have a single 3 pointer in 2 years?

For those of you BBQ smokers, would you say you have a specialty? Do you do one particular cut of meat or dish better than anything else?

Say what you will about Cronin’s songwriting, or REO Speedwagon being too “poppy” (particularly in the 1980s), but some of their 1970s works are hard-rock gems. This is one of them.

Haven’t heard that one in a while, quite a long one.
Foreigner’s another one, hard early, ballads late.

“Juke Box Hero” gets cranked up everytime it’s on. For REO Speedwagon, “Ridin’ the Storm Out” is my favorite.

The live version of that from “Live… You Get What You Play For” (which I think is the version everyone knows) is phenomenal. The studio version sounds lacking in comparison.

See for yourselves:
