Reminder: This is an ALL MUSIC, ALL DAY Thread

Listen To Wolf Live At 8am Here

This is for all of you who think “anything you can do, I can do better … I can do anything better than you” … oh, not specifically making a post, and not specifically me, it can be your wife, your best friend, your brother, your co-worker, your boss, the actual “pro” down the street: you push the envelope, you love the competition, you drool over projects, you long to do “hands on” things (see: Tony, vis-a-vis BBQ) and so, without further ado, here it is, AG’s very first Do It Yourself Project Post!

See, it’s like this: Wolf is having a no good, very bad, horrible, awful, terrible, super-busy and not-very-fun week at some “thing” called w-o-r-k and he’s not at all happy about it …

So help The Old Lupine out here: Metal, Rock, Classical, Mariachi, Jump/Swing, Rap, Blues, Pop, RnB, Grunge, Soundtrack, Celtic, Jazz, Country, Electronic, Folk, Reggae, Soul, New Age, Disco, Gospel, Psychedelic …

I Wolf’s “Even A Blind Squirrel Finds A Nut Now And Then” Challenge: … time’s yours!

Tony’s Youtube Challenge:

Today’s Youtube challenge: post a song that reminds you of someone special. This one has long reminded me of my father.

My sis. She’s got a lot of health concerns, but she’s a trooper and deserves the world. She’s got a great hubby that takes care of her and I couldn’t be more grateful for what he does for her.

For obvious reasons this song really moves me.

I like this cover version

Not a big fan of C&W, but I like this little gem:

And as a nod to KCSD, this was essentially my proposal song to Mrs. BRAG.

No, she’s not blonde. Don’t care, it worked anyway.

While I’m not a fan of this band in any way, shape or form, this song has a special place in my heart because of who had me listen to it.

I had written a song right after my second deployment and uploaded it to social media. She told me it sounded similar to this.

We dont (cant) speak anymore, and it hurts. Me more, probably, haha anyway:

Man, so many songs for you all are associated with memories of people who have passed on. My first thought when it came to songs was Kenny Chesney. He and Jimmy Buffett have made such a mark on my life and my outlook on everything. I remember driving down A1A in Florida from Miami to Key West for my honeymoon in 2004, listening to Kenny Chesney’s “When the Sun Goes Down.” I associated a memory with a melody and every time I hear that CD now, I remember salty ocean breezes driving over the Seven Mile Bridge. We recreated that memory again in 2014.

This song reminds me of my childhood best friend, Jeremy, who passed in 2010, the week after my birthday. He was a good kid with a wrong-side-of-the-tracks type of upbringing: his parents were into drugs, and his older brother did not have a good reputation (I think he had been in and out of juvenile detention, but I’m not sure). He and I were like brothers, who sadly lost touch in 2004 when he moved. I then enlisted, which took me out of the state, and was in the process of finding him to reconnect when I heard the news that he had been killed in a car accident – which devastated me.

This song has been a favorite since I was young and would play it on the jukebox. Cat Stevens version is great as well, but it was ugly kid Joe on the juke. My dad worked a lot, but has still always been the for me. So I have no complaints that way. But… He’s always so busy and while I see him when we work together, it’s always been about work. The connection of deep conversations and just hanging out talking about life, love, God, and all the other way to serious deep conversations I like to have. I’ll cherish memories of work, but it’s the deeper connection I want with memories other than work. The man simply has one speed and it’s work all the time. Which means unfortunately our conversations are always about work. This song registered to me as a kid about how precious time is, as I’ve always been an “old soul” type. It’s always felt prophetic about our relationship. But to be completely honest, it’s probably true for most people.

This one’s for my brother who passed away in 2013. He was 9 years older than me and took the big brother/fatherly role towards me. While we might fight and have our spats, there was never a doubt in each other’s minds we’d be there if needed. Even if the help came with a lecture that I didn’t need, the help was always there. He’d help anyone that need it. He was a big cuddly temperamental bear. Lol But he’d never leave you hanging.

Never heard this version before, but it’s good.

Cat Stevens covered it too?

My father never liked that I associated the original Harry Chapin version with him. Probably guilt because he was on the road so much.

Is amazing to me how many songs have been redone and redone. Seriously, the number of remakes is absolutely astounding. I was always amazed at how many songs have been remade that are popular today that were done by Bob Dylan. I’m not even sure he was the original for those either. Lol

I have played a game with my wife for years. I will ask he who wrote this song. She is now conditioned to answer Bob Dylan.

workingmansdead

Ha I do the same thing. She’s always just like “Bob Dylan again!?”

BleedingRedAndGold

Not to mention what’s probably the most-covered song of all, “Yesterday”. Although back in the day when I was teaching the eldest about covers of songs, I was surprised at the wide range of takes on “Jolene”, and in spite of the extreme variations, many of them were quite good.

Side note, I just listened to this song for the first time since I can remember. Every time I hear it, I still hear the sound of the 45 from the juke. Listening to it on my phone just doesn’t do it justice.

This song reminds me of my buddy Patrick who past some years back.

Well: this one’s in response to Wolf and Tony, it’s an album I bought in my early teens and the songs just keep popping up in my head. It reminds me of my Mom and the difficulties she was having back then. It is a bit of a spoof, but the music is genuine, and the combo of Bernie Taupin and Elton John were brilliant.

Not my best moment, to be fair but in the interest of keeping it real in Tony’s Challenge, I dedicate the following to my wife:
