3rd shift thread went up on schedule.

Actually surprisingly good. Not Dobie Gray by any means, but pretty good.

BleedingRedAndGold

I’ve heard worse covers of songs, sure, but too grating on my ears to listen to the whole thing. Not bad, per se, but also not relaxing at all, just harshly raspy.

BleedingRedAndGold

And score the Royals pitches a shutout.

Tony Sommer

Of course as soon as I stop paying attention they stop winning again.

On that note, last year we didn’t get our 4th win until April 20th, so as bad as this start is we’re still doing better than last year.

Tony Sommer

Our Pythagorean record, which is better at predicting future games than actual record, is 70-92 over 162 games. So a bit of improvement over last year

BleedingRedAndGold

And that leaves out the skew applied by an early 4-game series against the (currently) hottest O in the majors in the being of the Mariners.

BleedingRedAndGold

Addendum, and KC might’ve won the last of those, had Hamilton not had a mishap at the wall.

Tony Sommer

The Warriors seem to be barely trying and are still up 14.

BleedingRedAndGold

Oops, Dick got waved off. But even so, Kennedy kept the Tribe from turning their oval sidewas, still 3 – 0 Royals going into B-8th.

BleedingRedAndGold

With the Royals leading 2 – 0 and Baily’s pitch count at 83 in the middle-6th, looks like the Royals might get a 7-inning start from him, which would be good.

BleedingRedAndGold

Tribe got 5 2/3 out of their starter tonight.

BleedingRedAndGold

Aaaand Baily held the Tribe scoreless through 7 on 102 pitches. Take a bow, Homer, ya dun gud 2nite.

BleedingRedAndGold

Next pitcher up is Dick Lovelady.

UFC pay-per-view tonight.

BleedingRedAndGold

Going into the top 5th, Royals lead 2 – 0.

Tony Sommer

Looks like the underdogs might be 2-0 soon. I doubt the Clippers beat the Warriors though.

TIL that the guy who designed the decor and furnishings of the houses of Parliament in the UK did so at the ripe old age of…25, and back in the Victorian era.

Back then young men still had refined style, taste, and sophistication.

BleedingRedAndGold

Perhaps, but Pugin himself stood alone in his day as very nearly single-handedly starting the gothic revival in the Victorian era, as well as shifting architectural design in the UK so deeply that many British homes still show his influence.

Tony Sommer

Apparently that 76ers player was checking in on his daughter who’s seriously ill.

BleedingRedAndGold

Puts a different complexion on that deal, at least.

Mattl

Ah, that’s totally different then.

Tony Sommer

More things to complain about, I had to drive somewhere today and not a single sports radio station had the NBA game on.

I did a mock draft this afternoon and Christian Wilkins happened to drop to #29. It’s probably my favorite draft so far.

1-29 – Christian Wilkins, DT
2-29 – Amani Oruwariye, CB
2-31 – Hakeem Butler, WR
3-28 – Darnell Savage, S
5-29 – Porter Gustin, Edge
6-28 – Dax Raymond, TE
6-41 – Preston Williams, WR
7-2 – Blace Brown, CB

Q: What percentage of Royals losses will be blamed on the bullpen even when the ‘Pen actually turns in a decent performance and the loss is more properly placed on starting pitching/defense/offense? I’ve already noticed an instance or two of that, and I haven’t been paying close attention to it, so it’s an actual thing.

slackator

middle of the pack offense which is a massive improvement for them, #1 in defense, tied for 3rd in Quality Starts which means the starters are getting it done for the most part, 27th in team ERA, 27th in opposing Batting Average, 27th in Opposing On Base Percentage, 25th in Opposing OPS, 1st aka dead last in Blown Saves, 27th in Save Percentage, 26th in WHIP. Say what you will but the relief are the ones blowing these games for the most part

legal_kush

Yeah, I think the Royals led in the 6th inning or later in six of their first seven losses…

BleedingRedAndGold

Very nice statistics, which say (presumably) precisely what you want them to to make your point. Now use statistics to explain how the bullpen’s at fault for a game when the offense wasn’t enough to dig out of the hole the starter dug for himself and the game where if Hamilton had made the play at the wall they would have won.

Also allow for the fact that I haven’t seen all the games to date by digging back and showing the other losses that were not on the Pen. By that I don’t mean a half-hearted “look” that doesn’t jeopardize your above statement, but really try to falsify it. I handed you two contrary examples, but here’s another hint: The Mariners have had a dominant offense and account for 4 of the losses in this season. Don’t forget losses that involve a starter getting pulled early, as well.

Tony Sommer

ESPN streaming is so bad, it’s literally unwatchable for any event that’s remotely popular. I have to stream the NBA playoff games illegally.

Anyway, big upset in the first game with the Nets beating the 76ers. Embiid is injured, but they’re still way more talented and should have won at home.

Mattl

Did you see the video clip of a couple Sixers checking their cell phones during the game? Wow.

Tony Sommer

I heard about it, but haven’t watched the clip yet. That’s not a good look.

BleedingRedAndGold

Isn’t a good look that the team(s?) allow the players to have their phones during the games, but what do I know? To me, the NBA’s become unwatchable.

Mattl
Mattl

I wondered that too, when I saw it. I wonder if the players broke a team rule in using the phone? I imagine we haven’t heard the last of it.

BleedingRedAndGold

NBA teams have rules again? News to me, since one of the things that got me away from the NBA was the lack of actual team play as opposed to the surrent model of Superstar + a star or two, supplemented with a couple-few JAGs to feed the ball to the big names and maybe fill a specialist role at times.
