Chiefs Miss Landing Player, Twice

It was reported today that the Chiefs almost signed Earl Thomas AND Ronald Darby, and missed out on both. In the case of Thomas, the Chiefs were planning to sign him to a 1 year deal when the Ravens swooped in and offered him a long term commitment. For Darby, he was in KC for physicals the last we heard, prior to new leaking he would re-sign with the Eagles on a 1 year $8.5M deal.

After cleaning house of some of their best players, at least historically, on defense the Kansas City Chiefs should have plenty of cap space to sign anyone they choose. According to friend of the show, the Chiefs look to have approximately $26Mil in cap space, which will increase June 1st when Berry’s dead money is moved forward to the 2020 cap.

So how are the Chiefs continuing to miss out on players they apparently coveted, when they made the moves to be able to sign players like Thomas and Darby? Its an interesting question, one which we may never have an answer to.

I like seeing Okafor come here as much as any of the moves. He’s fun to watch and really, this will be his first fully healthy season after the injury a couple years ago.

Idiots. I’d pay to play for the 2019 KC Chiefs.

So I popped in to Abandoned Palace. For all their “we’re all adults here” drum beating, its awfully juvenile in their comment section. I quote one comment here “You racist M F” Still gotta LOL at them.

If they are losing guys because someone else is paying them more than the Chiefs think they are worth I’m ok with that. Bidding wars are only ever good for the player, never the team.

It’s almost like other teams don’t want the Chiefs to improve their defense… The nerve of some people!

I don’t see where KC was planning on signing Darby. Only that he came and Philly signed him. I’m I just missing it? Or are you channeling your inner Pete 😜

He’s no Bashaud Breeland anyway.

Rather have three (or at least the two guaranteed) years of Mathieu than one year of Thomas, assuming it was one or the other. Mathieu is a building block, whereas one year of Thomas would just be an expensive rental.

Would have liked to sign Darby, but don’t think it’s a huge loss that we didn’t, especially with the injury.

Sounds like Thomas would have been a free safety stop gap for a year, which if it had worked out, could have been great. So to me, it sounds like the Chiefs are still looking for a FS.

Yep. I don’t know what the 1yr looked like, but ET and HB would be a hell of a back end for 1yr. Going from Dan Sorenson and Jordan Lucas to ET and HB. Damn…

I really don’t like seeing that they whiffed on two good players. I can understand the Darby thing. Thomas would have been expensive, but good to have.

1st, how long do I have to sign in every time I log on?
2nd, damn, we missed on both?
