It was reported today that the Chiefs almost signed Earl Thomas AND Ronald Darby, and missed out on both. In the case of Thomas, the Chiefs were planning to sign him to a 1 year deal when the Ravens swooped in and offered him a long term commitment. For Darby, he was in KC for physicals the last we heard, prior to new leaking he would re-sign with the Eagles on a 1 year $8.5M deal.
After cleaning house of some of their best players, at least historically, on defense the Kansas City Chiefs should have plenty of cap space to sign anyone they choose. According to friend of the show, the Chiefs look to have approximately $26Mil in cap space, which will increase June 1st when Berry’s dead money is moved forward to the 2020 cap.
So how are the Chiefs continuing to miss out on players they apparently coveted, when they made the moves to be able to sign players like Thomas and Darby? Its an interesting question, one which we may never have an answer to.
