Editor’s Note: Free Agency officially begins at 3pm AG time

Well. If you thought Monday was wild, Tuesday walked up and said “hold my beer”. After signing the Honey Badger to big bucks late Monday, Veach left us hanging most the day again, when a flurry of tweets sent Chiefs Kingdom into a flurry.

Great, right?

Oh. Well, it gets better, right?

YAS! We got a 1st, right?

Um, can we just skip to Wednesday’s updates now?

Not $22m/year with the Raiders?
Fake News?
Whaaaat?

It has begun

Bye, Mitch.

If Berry gets signed by another team, are the Chiefs still on the hook to pay him? (Browns?) I don’t know how that works.

Tyrone
Tyrone

We don’t pay him anything on top of what we have have already paid him – signing bonus and portion of guaranteed base salary. That doesn’t change if he’s signed by someone else or not.

If another team signs him, they will give him an entirely new contract. That contract would also likely have some signing bonus and base salary amounts, but it would have nothing to do with us.

I’d be really happy taking a chance on Verrett on a cheap 1 year deal. I’m convinced the Chargers have some sort of curse or strength and conditioning problem. Maybe voodoo. Rivers and his 48 children have taken the health of half the team.

Not that Berry made me super confident in our strength and conditioning… but I still feel like Verrett has a better chance to stay healthy here.

Odd TM hasn’t officially signed yet? Other teams have there tampering guys in and signed by now

Maybe he’s flying in to sign and have press conference at the same time?

Colquitt is NOW the only member of the Chiefs that wasn’t a Reid era pick/FA.

Tyrone
Tyrone

And lets be honest, he shouldn’t be around either. We could post June 1 him and save $2.5 million on the cap (almost $2 million after replacing him with a rookie minimum guy).

We’re trying to save money everywhere, we should be saving $2 million here at this incredibly low value position.

We aren’t that desperate for cash.

Colquitt is a VERY last resort cut and there are other players we would cut before him like Sorenson.

Well shoot.

Hate that it had to end this way for EB29. I know he’s oft-maligned here because of the last couple of years, but I wish him the best wherever he goes. Thanks for the memories EB. Hopefully your injury doesn’t bother you too much (except against the Chiefs) and you are able to end your career the way you want to.

Wonder is Peters was who Dorsey wanted, but Veach actually liked Darby from that draft

Very interesting paragraph in Terez’s Dee Ford article for Yahoo Sports

What’s more, Ford is excited to get back to rushing the passer almost exclusively and getting back to a less-cerebral brand of football, as he dropped into coverage on over 100 of his 1,100-plus snaps last season under (now-fired) defensive coordinator Bob Sutton.

The 49ers’ eight edge rushers, by comparison, dropped into coverage only a combined total of 80 times in 2018.

“I didn’t have anything against Bob’s defense — we were just in conflict a lot of times,” Ford said. “One guy could be my coverage so I couldn’t be aggressive against the run and tee off like I want to.”

During his phone call with the 49ers on Tuesday night, their brass made it clear to him that they expect to play an aggressive brand of football, featuring Ford doing what he does best — get upfield and make plays, alongside the likes of new inside linebacker Kwon Alexander and multiple Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman.

“Music to my ears,” Ford said. “We’re going after the quarterback every play.”

Tarkus

Guess that’s why it took him five years to learn the defense. It was too cerebral for him.

ElPasoJason

Apparently Dee Ford’s preferred defense.

How many years did he play football before he learned he was supposed to tackle the HB rather than be a lead blocker for him?

JMCGoBlue

Yeah too bad he never got to the understanding that lining up on the defensive side of the LOS is expected behavior.

Leaving work for the day, this has been great guys, except for the guy who hates Brett Veach! You know who you are…………

You can be happy EB is gone, but it’s tough to be happy he’s done

Mitko

Chiefs had 30 Mil in cap space not including EB release ( won’t matter till June 1st anyway), and the TM and Wilson contracts. 9th most room in the NFL
They also have the 9th youngest team in the league including Berry

I’ve lost track, has this already been announced?

Mr. Allbright must not have been paying attention last year because we didn’t field a D for most of the year in 2018. We might as well savage as much $$ as we can and retool the whole thing. Sadly this has been coming for a couple of seasons.

ArrowFan
ArrowFan

If EB cannot pass a physical does that save us any money or is all of that water under the bridge now. You would think if he physically cannot play anymore he would have retired.

wustl_chiefs_fan

And it begins.

I’ve calmed down a bit. Still not happy but not freaking out.

MidKan Chiefs Lifer

Just earlier you basically called people stupid for suggesting it because no way it was going to happen. Well that stupid shit sure did fall the other direction didn’t it.

Pelletman
Pelletman

No, I’ve said releasing with out the post June 1 designation was brainless and that’s how it was initially reported. Post June was still bad if he’s healthy and I’ll stick by that.

Since it’s still bad, I’m assuming he’s still hurt and isn’t going to play much this year which will then make the release make sense.

MidKan Chiefs Lifer
MidKan Chiefs Lifer

You insinuated that someone else was brain-dead for believing it would happen. But hey you stuck to your guns there you can stick to your guns here.

Pelletman
Pelletman

Go back to my comments. I said cutting him right now (without the June 1 designation) was braindead, you don’t eat $15 million to save $1.5. He’s worth a roster spot as a coach at that point.

MidKan Chiefs Lifer
MidKan Chiefs Lifer

Well you said you have seen the take of outright cutting him several times on here and it is a brain-dead take.

Honestly it’s whatever I don’t necessarily like the idea of Berry not being a chief. But in my opinion and several others, obviously not yours you’ve called him Elite several times recently, he is not going to come back from his injuries at this point. If he does awesome good for him because I think he’s a awesome person and obviously that means the Chiefs miss played it. either way they obviously seen it as no other way out or they wouldn’t have taken all that dead money on.

Pelletman
Pelletman

Yes, “outright cutting him” is 110% braindead. We didn’t do that, we post June 1 designated him…which changes a lot.
