There is a reason why bad franchises are bad.

Kurdish_chief
Kurdish_chief

This isn’t a bad move.

It’s only a bad move when you’re tight on cap space.

If you have 100M, if you can afford a lambo or a rolls royce, why not buy one? There’s no harm. You’ll still have a gazzillion dollars to pay for your bills & that’s even if you were to buy 25 Rolls royces.

Now if you’re working at McDonald’s making $15 an hour, you shouldn’t be looking to buy luxurious cars because chances are, you probably can’t afford one.

And that is exactly why teams like the browns, raiders, jets are going crazy on shopping because they can afford to do so.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Could you imagine if the Chiefs landed Bell? Ego aside, he is a great RB and would make an already unstoppable offense even moreso. Sure the Chiefs will give up 40 ppg but they scoring 60.

Tony Sommer

I’d rather spend that money on a position that will help the team win.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

So having hands down the best offense in NFL history won’t win you games? I am speaking hypothetically.

Tony Sommer

Bell would make no difference in the offense.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

That is where I beg to differ. Bell is Priest Holmes with an ego and tell me you wouldn’t want 31 in his prime in this offense?

wildcats137
wildcats137

At the cost of defensive improvement? I would not.

Tony Sommer

Rushing is pretty much irrelevant in the modern NFL.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Look at the Patriots in the AFCCG in the first quarter. 8 minute drive to start out the game kept Mahomes off the field. A bell cow RB is irrelevant, the RB position isn’t.

wildcats137
wildcats137

I would be furious. I mean hire plane to fly “fire veach” banner furious.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Dude has a massive ego but Reid might be one of the few coaches that can handle it. You would have the best 1-2-3 punch at RB, Top 10 WR corps, best TE, reigning MVP at QB and an above average OL. You are dropping 60 points a game.

wildcats137
wildcats137

That’s hyperbole, and also, how many games did this team lose last year while scoring 40+? $ per win added curve (too bad we cant calculate this 🙁 ) heavily favors defensive improvements for us.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

How many games did the Chiefs have after Hunt was gone that the Chiefs couldn’t close it out on offense? Yes the defense was trash but the Chiefs needed a couple of first downs to close out at least two games.

wildcats137
wildcats137

Yes, more first downs would have won more games, but so would more stops, and well get more bang for our buck chasing stops. Our offense is at a point of drastically diminished returns per $ of cap space.

Tony Sommer

Zero.

Including the playoffs, we had 3 losses after Hunt got released.

Against the Chargers we had one possession after going up 28-14, which had a grand total of one running play (i.e. the best RB in the world wouldn’t have made a difference).

We never had the lead against Seattle, so running out the clock wasn’t an option.

In the AFCCG we had the lead, but never had the lead and the ball, so again running out the clock wasn’t an option.

Cheat Code
Cheat Code

Hate it. Absolutely hate it unless it was for a couple million. No more.

Tarkus

It would be both incredibly stupid and incredibly fun to watch.

But our offense is already plenty fun enough to watch without the incredibly stupid part.

Giants need to get good young players and cap space. Something the Browns had for once.

Had.

Kcrobwins
Kcrobwins

Dorsey has a standing athletic ability > character intangibles rule to his roster constructions. It is not new. He will fill the house with headcases and put it on the coach to make it work. Those headcases will be able to play though.

TNCHIEFS

I sure hope Spags’ 4-3 is so badass it can compensate for the loss of Houston and Ford and then some. Are we just shifting our strength to the secondary? I get the cap thing regarding Houston and Ford was due. But… So many are football experts. And a few more pretend to be. Me, I’m just a big Chiefs fan. BTW, when are they going to sign SAM, WILL and MIKE?

wildcats137
wildcats137

DOD is WILL. Hitchens can be Mike Or Sam, Many are assuming he’s destined to be MIKE. However, SAM in 4-3 under is hard to find, so idk.

Big Chief
Big Chief

Clearly Spangnola didn’t see Ford as a fit. Pressure via scheme vs. skills, I guess. I think this is to clear space for the Jones and Hill contracts.

Don’t know what they are looking at for Edge rushers now, unless they expect Speaks and Kpass to step up. I assume they may have at least one other FA target lined up for this.

Savagerider
Savagerider

I dont like the fact that we dont get nothing this year for ford. I hate trading for future year draft picks. Especially if 49ers become decent with pickups and qb back and they sneak into playoffs then we gave Ford away for a late 2nd round pic. Just not smart. Atkeast ger 5th round this year second next year or a player this year and second next year

Tarkus

I’m guessing the Chiefs would have gotten all that if they could. Apparently the NFL doesn’t value Ford as much as you do.

good for Dee. we could use that 2nd to move up this year if we wanted to

wildcats137
wildcats137

I was honestly hoping for more for Ford, but, if you’d told me last year that we’d make this trade, I’d have been ecstatic. . . I don’t see this working out well for the 49ers long term. . .

Mattl
Mattl

The only thing that confuses me here is, did NO OTHER NFL TEAM want Dee Ford? So strange.

SCKSChief
SCKSChief

I’m afraid we horribly overvalued him.

Tarkus

Most of us thought he sucked before last year. Now some act like we’re getting rid of Derrick Thomas.

SCKSChief
SCKSChief

Nah. I’m just mad that, after a season like he turned in, the Chiefs manage to find a way to not cash in on a huge year…everyone else seems able to do just that. Rats.

Any RFA available that KC likes? Maybe Veach is gonna flip that newly acquired pick for a player.

hatcreekcattlecmpny
hatcreekcattlecmpny

what do you mean not cash in? we got a 2nd for him

SCKSChief
SCKSChief

I mean other teams seem to find a way for guys to land them multiple picks, great players…just frustrated that its a 2020 2nd

Tarkus

He was on the franchise tag, and the 49ers had to give him a huge contract. Just how much do you think a guy with one great season and on a one year $15.4M deal is worth?

Do you think the Chiefs turned down better offers?

SCKSChief
SCKSChief

I didn’t say that. I thought he could bring back at least what Peters did.

Team Player
Team Player

A little greedy. Be content with AS11 for a 2nd and Fuller. Can’t fleece people every year or they stop trading with you.

Kcrobwins
Kcrobwins

I used to think this, but people still make deals with belichek so…..

Tarkus

I guess one great year out of five, and being injury prone for many of those five years, might have something to do with that. They also had to work on a new deal, because no one was giving much up for a $15M rental.

Question: Who’s going to knock down the other teams QB for us next year?

Tarkus

Jones set an all-time record doing it last year.

Team Player
Team Player

Answer: it will be about picks not sacks.

And CJ too 😇

Tarkus

SPI Chief
SPI Chief

Gotta let em walk for that cash imo, I would not have been happy for us to give out that contract

Tarkus

That’s also why the trade compensation is good, but not great.

probablyamistake
probablyamistake

Glad it’s the niners and not us giving the knucklehead that kind of contract.

TNCHIEFS
TNCHIEFS

After CA taxes he’ll walk away with about $2.5M per year

Tyrone
Tyrone

Well this is going to be a very different defense this year. Different isn’t always better, but in our case it’s almost impossible to not be better.

Team Player
Team Player

It’s bizzaro-ravens

Tarkus

Also important to remember these moves aren’t just for 2019. We’re trying to build sustained success, not just be the best we can be in 2019.

asian_fetish
asian_fetish

Agreed. We’ll have 2 drafts in a row with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. We’ll need a lot of young cheap guys to keep this train rolling after Hill, Jones and Mahomes get paid.

probablyamistake
probablyamistake

It’s also important to remember we were an offsides away from the SB, and we just blew up the only part of our defense that was worth a crap.

Tarkus

An offsides you say? Oh, the irony.

probablyamistake
probablyamistake

I know, but he did have a good year. Not upset about the trade, just concerned about our pass rush. Jones is great, but he does need help.

4thQtrMagic
4thQtrMagic

Teams are going to double CJ. That means the other players will have opportunities. The question is how much did CJ help our outside rushers last year?

probablyamistake
probablyamistake

A more relevant question is how much did our edge rushers help Jones.

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Only way you make this trade is if you ABSOLUTELY need the cap space right now. I imagine Hill is about to become a very wealthy man.

Mattl
Mattl

I’m not thrilled with the compensation. But then I watched a few minutes of Mahomes highlights and I feel a lot better.

Team Player
Team Player

Hill is under contract for a year. Time to wait there. It’s about a CB

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

You gotta worry about Jones next year too.

SPI Chief
SPI Chief

Trading away Ford’s contract should give us enough room to work out at least 1 extension of Hill / Jones this year……might I ask for both / ducks

ForeverRanger91
ForeverRanger91

Would be nice to go into next offseason without worry about who to pay.

TNCHIEFS
TNCHIEFS

Gotta get Hill now. Next year we might not be able to keep him

Rapoport reporting its Ford for a 2020 2nd, straight up.

Tarkus

That’s so one minute ago.

TNCHIEFS
TNCHIEFS

Hopefully they suck again and it’s like a low first rounder

Tarkus

Tony Sommer

That’s, interesting… Apparently we love getting future 2nd round picks.

Tyrone
Tyrone

I don’t know how to feel about this.

Now we have to hope the 49ers suck again. They’re almost certainly not going to suck as bad as they did last year.

Tony Sommer

Don’t be so sure. Personally I prefer a 2nd next year for cap reasons. We need that cheap contract once Mahomes gets paid.

SPI Chief
SPI Chief

This^^ Need to hit in these drafts!

Team Player
Team Player

Imagine how I feel. Niners were my sleeper pick to lose to the Chiefs in the SB next year

Tyrone
Tyrone

hahahahaha

Tarkus

If it’s mostly a salary dump, even a later 2nd is pretty good for gaining $15M you think will be more valuable elsewhere to this year’s roster.

SCKSChief
SCKSChief

Hahahaha…fuck. Guess that sumbitch is getting traded on draft day.

Mattl

Well, obviously I can’t go to bed tonight until we get more info on Ford.
